Cynthia Dall edit

You've tagged this article for deletion on the basis of Dall not being a "charting" musician, but I reverted it. Wikipedia happens to contain many musicians with no charting albums and singles, but are noteworthy on a national or even world-wide level. If you could be more specific about your concern about the article, we can address it. Hawkbreeze (talk) 03:33, 4 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

User:Bigdaddy1981, I noticed you tagged this article for deletion because it appeared to be an advertisement. If you could be more specific about your concern, I would be happy to try to address it. I think you may be using the advertisement tag too liberally, as this article is well referenced and doesn't speak of bargains or special offers. I have made several contributions to this article and have no affiliation with the company. In fact I'm not even one of their customers. I do have their jingle permanently in my head due to their heavy advertising. Clerks. 16:05, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Louis Carlet edit

On the AfD discussion you said keep, based on notability. However, I just checked the sources: Two were articles in the Japan Times that promote the Union. Another was a classified ad, and the final one was an event listing. None of these satisfy WP:RS or WP:V and have been deleted. Please look through the history and check for yourself.

The three remaining sources are duplicates of those on the NUGW page. I don't know if you live, or have lived in Japan, but this person is simply not notable at all, and it appears that Union supporters are stuffing the page with bogus links to make him appear more notable than he actually is. I would like to ask you to reconsider your review of the page. Best regards. -- Sparkzilla talk! 17:02, 16 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

FYI. Sparkzilla is the self-declared publisher of Metropolis magazine, which has included information negative to the union of which Mr Carlet is involved. SZ has been warned-off editing articles relating to his magazine and business interests by many admins in the ongoing discussion here due to his COI and WP:CANVAS activities. This 'n' that edit

Good work sleuthing Dirk Hooper, Daddy-o. For more potential related adventures, keep an eye on this.

SAS smells expensive. Does it do things you need to have done and that Arrr doesn't do, or does it have some other major benefit(s) for you? (I'm thinking of "getting into" Arrr -- which I'm sure will do all that I need it to do -- during summer, but don't want to find that I've rather wasted my time.) -- Hoary (talk) 03:26, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

    • Thanks(!). R will do just about anything you want and it has the advantage of being open source. SAS is extremely expensive and is inferior to Matlab in many ways --- specifically if you want to build linear non-regression models. However, it is the standard in both biostatistics and litigation consulting so I am stuck with it. I don't think you will waste time on R but you should be aware that you might have to use SAS in some professions. That said, its really easy to learn as its a high level 'language'. Nice catch with that source, I've changed my vote given we can now verify the information, and indeed that it existed. There does seem to be an ideological debate going on, but given the contrasting !votes, there's no way this article can be deleted by any admin, it looks most likely that it will head towards a no consensus and therefore be kept. - Toon05 22:09, 16 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice edit

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Plant and Garden wiki edit

Hi Bigdaddy1981, I'm writing to you because you've edited many of the plant articles. I wanted to let you know about a plants-specific wiki site which you might be interested in contributing to. The site focuses specifically on how to grow any plant. Since Wikipedia is not a how-to, and articles are not allowed to be written as a guide on how to grow plants, two years ago I started http://www.plants.am - a wiki solely to address that topic (much like how wikitravel.org is solely to advise tourists visiting a country or city on their destination).

An example of how the sites differ can be seen immediately by comparing the Wikipedia article on Tamarind, with the Plants.am Tamarind article. Many of the articles currently on the site are placeholder articles taken from Wikipedia which are being rewritten from scratch, or shells of articles using new templates. However, a core of new articles like the Asparagus article (which still has a lot of room to grow) are being created, and the undertaking is huge. Perhaps you have some materials you can add which are not appropriate for Wikipedia. If you have any questions at all about this new resource, feel free to contact me on my user page here or on Plants.am. Thanks! --RaffiKojian (talk) 20:53, 18 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Just as a courtesy, I thought I'd let you know that I've restored the conviction section to the article. That said, I'm extremely careful regarding BLPs, and as such, I've commented out the section from public view for now. I'll work on the article, and the section, to ensure the article does not violate our BLP guidelines, but removing that section, at the present time, would omit any mention that he was in fact convicted. User:Swancookie matter at AN/I edit

In yet another Clint Catalyst/buzznet related dispute today, User:Swancookie rather gratuitously impugned your good faith and insinuated anti-"LGBT" bias. P.S. on the "crystal ball claims" - Jeffrey has already scored music for a major commercial which hasn't aired yet. I assure you the link will be provided. And the "Seed" IMDb page was very recently taken down for unknown reasons. There is nothing fictitious on the page. The internet is not an "end all" - life occurs outside of it, you know.

Firstly, it is not "his" page. Secondly, I have no personal knowledge of him (or you -- I suspect you are the same) at all and thus have no personal bias, thirdly I am not "shutting it down" I am suggesting to the Wikipedia community that he is not notable. The decision of whether to delete the page is not mine. I can only give my views. Bigdaddy1981 (talk) 17:34, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia editors decided to keep the Eric Leiser article and I suspect they will do the same for Jeffrey - which means a lot of wasted time on your part with no equanimity reached. The amount of hate involved in seeking the destruction of such simple pages for independent artists who have obviously achieved much in an already tough world and the time you have taken in attacking them causes me concern for you as a human being - I pray that you find peace within. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Albinofawn (talkcontribs) 05:37, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please desist from posting personal abuse on my talk page. You hyper-aggressive style will win you no friends. Bigdaddy1981 (talk) 17:58, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

PLEASE STOP CHANGING INFORMATION AND MUTILATING EVERY SINGLE PAGE OF ERIC AND JEFFREY LEISER AND RELATED PAGES - How dare you attack someone that way - you should be reported for abusing the system by changing every single page and removing valid information AGAIN and AGAIN. Stop wasting your time and get a life. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Albinofawn (talkcontribs) 06:37, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

CPGB-ML edit

I object very strongly to the statement you made to the effect that "it is unclear what the party's relationship to the Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist) is and if it is designed to replace that party or merely to serve as its electoral vehicle." If you want evidence, take a look at the CPGB-ML YouTube page http://youtube.com/user/proletariancpgbml and you will see the following statement, "Proletarian is the newspaper of the CPGB-ML. It's also our registered 'electoral' name." Other organizations have also had to register under different names, such as the CPGB (PCC), which is registered as "Weekly Worker". So it's not unheard of. I take great exeception to the fact that you cynically imply that Proletarian has been registered as a political party to replace the CPGB-ML. Also, the membership is a non-issue. To be registered with the electoral commission it is a must to have at least three members (the minimum number of officers). It only has three member as it is a shell organisation. Do you understand what this means? If you do, then you will please desist from making changes to this article. Thank you. Troublemaker1949 (talk) 05:25, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

OK, I accept your compromise, let's let the article stand as it is.Troublemaker1949 (talk) 03:49, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

For your information, the following is from the "Registering a Political Party: A Brief Guide" published by the UK Electoral Commission in November 2008. http://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/68315/Registering-A-Political-Party-Guide.pdf

(page 1) Your registered party name, and any party descriptions or emblems that you register with us, will be protected so that other parties cannot use them, or names that could be confused with them, on the ballot paper.

(page 3) We can refuse to register certain party names. Factors which we must consider when assessing a proposed party name include whether: • it may lead to confusion with the name of another party • it is obscene or offensive • it could mislead an elector as to the effect of his vote, or hinder their understanding of instructions for voting, if appearing on a ballot paper

And this is from "Guidance on Registering as a Poltical Party" published in December 2006 by the UK Electoral Commission. http://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/__data/assets/electoral_commission_pdf_file/0004/13495/registeringpolparty_final_23814-6305__E__N__S__W__.pdf

(page 4) A party can register a party name and up to 12 descriptions, each of which is protected for the party’s own use for electoral purposes in the parts of the UK in which it is registered. The Commission can refuse to register a name or description if, in its opinion, it: • is the same as the registered name or any registered description of another party in the same part of the register • is likely to result in electors confusing the name or description with that of another party in the same part of the register

I hope this helps you understand why the CPGB-ML cannot register as the "communist party" and has to use an alternative name.Troublemaker1949 (talk) 06:57, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

What exactly are you trying to do? I add a stub that will soon be fleshed out and, all of a sudden, a notice appears that it has been nominated for deletion. Give me a chance please. Troublemaker1949 (talk) 01:35, 31 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Anna Morgan edit

With your appreciated hint that other "Anna Morgans" existed, I narrowed and refined my serach terms. I have found the character discussed in context to the film, and even found her being discussed as a negative example of a in-film mother in an article about a different film covering a different mother. If you had not cautioned about the author or porn star of this name, I might have given uo too soon. Thanks for the heads-up. MichaelQSchmidt (talk) 21:32, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Uh, ok. If you can improve the article or find refs; I'd be glad to change my opinion. Bigdaddy1981 (talk) 21:34, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

OR tag at Badiou edit

It's not clear to me why you placed that tag on the article. The addition of a few {fact} tags in the body seems straightforward enough, and thanks for doing that. However, discerning exactly which section(s) you believe to be WP:OR is not easy for another editor. Perhaps a more specific section tag would be appropriate. Or most certainly, some sort of comment on what you perceive the issues to be on the article talk page would help. LotLE×talk 00:21, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Amber Benson edit

Please describe on the article's talk page the specific things about the article that makes it to fan-like for you. I have examined it closely, and I see nothing there that would qualify. Hello, I notice you've removed a fair bit of material from Dennis Skinner, some of which you suggest would be better on Wikiquote.
