Trivia questionEdit

Which racehorse of the 1980s was named British Horse of the Year and Timeform Horse of the Year despite never winning a Group Race? Hint- he was a two-year-old.  Tigerboy1966  17:21, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

correct, I had just finished the article: Provideo.  Tigerboy1966  20:56, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Re: SelkirkEdit

Could you or  Tigerboy1966  take a look at him and see if anything else needs to be done? I added the Race Career table that I wanted to do, since he wasn't too far out in most races. I think it's mature enough to release into the Wiki-wild. Thanks for all your input! — WylieCoyote 07:44, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

2012 Six Nations ChampionshipEdit

Good morning Bcp67,
Thank you for your input. I have followed your advice given here on January 28
Cheers!

ThoroughbredEdit

Hello. Thanks for querying my action over the term 'thoroughbred'. According to the international edition of Funk & Wagnalls Standard Dictionary, the initial T of 'Thoroughbred is capitalised only when the following conditions apply:

  • The word is a proper noun (NOT an adjective)
  • The referent is "A horse whose ancestry is recorded in the English Stud Book, and which is therefore descended from one of three Eastern sires: the Byerly Turk, the Darley Arabian, or the Godolphin".
Can you please cite a superior authority for capitalising it as an adjective, or go back and restore my copyedits? Cheers, Bjenks (talk) 05:30, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Rainbow Quest/ThanksEdit

Thanks for doing the disambiguation on various pages linked to Rainbow Quest. His legacy lives on and I really should expand his article further. He was one of those rare horses who seemed to float over the ground. And now he's the damsire of a Grand National winner, which made me dig out my Timeform annuals.  Tigerboy1966  20:15, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Sole PowerEdit

I actually edit-conflicted with you as I was adding the result at exactly the same time! I haven't started a SP article but he has now won 2 G1 races which is usually my trigger point. Will be up within a week. Kingsgate Native is overdue as well. I suppose I get so used to British and Irish sprinters getting stomped on in international races that I forget that some of them are really rather good. Tigerboy1966  19:54, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

ps thanks for your offer of help over on Ravinella. Tigerboy1966  19:55, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

Tom SimpsonEdit

Are you still up for copy-editing the article? I've requested one at WP:GOCE, but I'm not sure when that'll happen. I've nominated it for GA review prematurely, only because my experience is that it can take months to be picked up. All I need to do is expand the doping and riding style sections, maybe add some more to personal life. I split the death section off to Death of Tom Simpson, which gained GA status yesterday. Want to get that up to FA so it could do with a look over. I think the only thing missing from it is a reaction section. Any ideas on both will be very welcome. Hope you can help. BaldBoris 19:15, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Certainly - its a great article already and should be well worth GA itself in due course. Will also have a look at the Death article and see if I can add anything there. Might get hold of the Fotheringham book to help (currently reading his biog of Merckx, which is worth a read). I'm not about for a couple of weeks but will get stuck into it when I've got time. All the best Bcp67 (talk) 19:40, 10 August 2013 (UTC)--

Disambiguation thanksEdit

Thanks very much for adding the disambiguations to Declaration of war and Teleprompter articles. AND for fixing the typo on various article: one of thee day I mut ort out the faulty "S" key on my decrepit Tohiba laptop (urely ome mitake?). Tigerboy1966  22:40, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

Did wonder if you had an "s" key problem actually! Always happy to copy-edit articles - I never have time now to create anything from scratch myself but I can usually find a few mins to flick through articles and fix any odd bits and pieces. Good to see Bedtime mentioned in the Teleprompter article too as a contributor to geldings being admitted to G1 races here. --Bcp67 (talk) 06:07, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Are you ok there?Edit

We have been missing your contributions. Hope you are ok and that this is just a short wikiholiday. Tigerboy1966  00:14, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

Need a DYK QPQ?Edit

Hey Bcp67, if you need/want/ can be coerced (grin) into reviewing a DYK, Tigerboy created Beholder (horse) and did a 5x expansion on Mucho Macho Man, both of which I put up for DYK on his behalf. Interested in reviewing one or both? They are languishing at Template_talk:Did_you_know with no reviewers yet. Montanabw(talk) 20:48, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Ping! Thanks for your review, fixed the last bit, if you want to check and review. (Still no reviewer for MMM yet, either... sigh...) Montanabw(talk) 21:16, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks Bcp67! Be sure to add the green check mark to your comment {{subst:DYKtick}} and I'll see if I can ping someone to do a double check, though usually whoever promotes the hook to the DYK queue is supposed to do a double-check. Montanabw(talk) 02:23, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

IRB World Sevens CategoriesEdit

Pages should not be placed in both a category and its subcategory - that's the reason for all those removals. Miodzio3 (talk) 10:19, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

I've always done that according to WP:SUBCAT. I think that 2013–14 Heineken Cup should be only in Category:2013–14 Heineken Cup, which in turn should be in all those categories that are now in the main article. Miodzio3 (talk) 10:35, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

Rugby biographiesEdit

Thanks for the positive review of my contributions to South African rugby biographies. It is really nice to receive such support! What do you have in mind for collaborating on Danie Craven? I think his rugby career needs some padding. Other obvious gaps exist in his administrative career; for example, his leadership of SARB during the tour of the New Zealand Cavaliers, and the 1981 games vs. the United States. Thoughts? DYK adviceEdit

It's a matter of degree. If there are one or two small things preventing approval, such as a missing QPQ, or a question that needs to be answered, then Symbol question.svg is appropriate. (This could also be used for an uninteresting hook.) The Symbol possible vote.svg is used when there are more extensive or serious issues remaining such as close paraphrasing, neutrality or BLP issues, an unsourced hook, poor prose or stuctural problems, or a number of general issues to be worked. If there are issues that seem to be intractable or extremely serious—even if they might be solvable—the Symbol delete vote.svg symbol can be used instead of Symbol possible vote.svg to show that the problems are extremely serious, though it's more commonly used for issues that can't be solved, like a nomination that was submitted too late, needs to be 5x expanded but wasn't close and would needs tens of thousands of new characters, or has extensive copyvios.

Template:Did you know nominations/Honduran Patriotic FrontEdit

Bcp67, were you planning to revisit your review here now that the article has been expanded a bit more? Or should I find a new reviewer for it? Please let me know, or just stop by there if that's your plan. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:52, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

I think it needs a new reviewer, sorry - I am a little short of time over the next few days - will update the nomination. Thanks for the message. --Bcp67 (talk) 12:01, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Champion HurdleEdit

The SMARTFORM database that I use is a bit inconsistent regarding the colours of JP McManus. Typically in Ireland and around 2008/2009 the colours are described as "orange hoops" whereas more recently it is invariably "yellow hoops". The hoops at Cheltenham last week looked pretty yellow, so I am happy to standardise on that if you think that is best. (JockeyColours (talk) 22:05, 19 March 2014 (UTC))

Champion Hurdle tidy-upEdit

Thanks for fixing all those mistakes. Because these articles are very easy to create, it's also easy to get careless with the old copy&paste technique. I'll be working my way back to 1990 at least, and creating Granville Again along the way. Tigerboy1966  19:26, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

Keep on fiddling. When you were last on a wikibreak I realised just how valuable you are to the project. According to the RP, Seamus Mullins trains at "Wilsford-cum-Lake, Wiltshire", which sounds as GB as its possible to be without voting for UKIP whilst singing "Jerusalem" and having a Union Jack tattooed on a prominent body-part. However, RP lists trainers by their current base, and he may well have been in Ireland in 2007. I will look it up.19:45, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

After lengthy discussions with Montanabw I have split the 1-2-3 images into 3 separate owner images formatterd using the Wikipedia multiple image syntax. I have now upgraded all of the imeages on the Cheltenham Race pages, but not touched the individual year pages for Champion Hurdle, Gold Cup etc. You may want to take the new format, as this is how I am planning to do them in future. Alternatively I have added some image collections for ALL runners to some of the Talk pages e.g. Champion Hurdle 2014 so you may want to use them instead. Let me know what works best for you. (JockeyColours (talk) 21:28, 24 March 2014 (UTC)) Later: Have now realised that multiple image syntax will only display the first 10 images. So I need to split all races with > 10 runners into multiple rows. (JockeyColours (talk) 21:46, 24 March 2014 (UTC))

Ian SmithEdit

You might be aware of it, but the is a GA Review of Ian Smith going on at Talk:Ian Smith (Scottish rugby player born 1903)/GA1, and there are a few comments about what could be improved. Apologies if you knew this already. Jamesx12345 20:06, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

Yes, had seen that and decided to change a few bits and pieces in the article anyway - but have now undone all my changes in the light of your message. --Bcp67 (talk) 20:09, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
I've redone all your changes since I think they add to the article. They certainly clarify a lot of aspects, and there are some other good fixes (like the links) in there as well. Jamesx12345 20:15, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

George Aitken (rugby union)Edit

Hey. Thanks for your review of George Aitken (rugby union) and for your comments on my talk page. I'll definitely give you a ping if I need something reviewed (which is actually quite regularly). I frequently want another pair of eyes on articles I start! -- Shudde talk 11:01, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Irish Mares HurdlesEdit

I see you have added a coouple of new Irish Grade Ones to the list - if you are in the process of creating pages for them let me know where and I will add colours images. (JockeyColours (talk) 07:26, 5 May 2014 (UTC))

I'm afraid I just added them as redlinks to keep the G1 list comprehensive. I'm a bit lazy these days and tend to edit other people's creations rather than start anything new myself - haven't got masses of time to spare for editing I'm sorry to say. --Bcp67 (talk) 12:19, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

2014 Two-year-oldsEdit

Almost November and the category 2012 racehorse births is still empty. I'm not being lazy, I just don't remember any horse winning two GIs, which is usually my "trigger". Do you have any suggestions, or should we just wait for the Cartier winners? I see that "The Racecourse, Newbury" has officially gone west and not a moment too soon. Best wishes from The Boy, Tiger. Tigerboy1966  20:06, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

A more ridiculous "re-branding" I can hardly remember! Yes, no especially dominant 2yo at the moment, maybe the Breeders might thrown up 2nd G1 winner? Another year of European pattern races drawing to a close and I've managed to get most of the missing results & refs in place although I gave up on the German races below G1, too many name changes. Time for the real stuff to start!! best wishes to you also. --Bcp67 (talk) 20:36, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
I know exactly what you mean about the Gefuhrstockungenlichstampel-Kufuhrstenbahn-Unterndenlinden-Rennen (formerly the Reuss-zu-Zeiss und Johann Gambolputty-von-Ausfern Preis) syndrome which afflicts German racing. Tigerboy1966  23:15, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

And the 2012 births category is up and running! --Bcp67 (talk) 05:29, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

FranceGalop referencesEdit

Do you know the origins of the FranceGalop references on pages such as Prix Ganay. They don't work for me, require a login, so I am wondering if there is something special I need to do, or whether the FG website has recently been protected? I am hoping that you can give me the secret for getting in (I would love another source of online race results), but if they no longer work then I guess they should be removed.(JockeyColours (talk) 16:20, 1 November 2014 (UTC))

Sorry, no, I don't know - they were put in by Zafonic who did a massive amount of work setting up the European pattern race pages. I guess they must have been freely available at that point - I've never actually clicked on any of the FranceGalop links before trying that one today - and yes, if they need registration they probably ought to be removed. --Bcp67 (talk) 18:12, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
Slightly related, I've just started Grand Prix d'Automne and there are some gaps. Tigerboy1966  20:57, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
Have added France Galop and Racing Post references to Grand Prix d'Automne. It's painful but possible to extract the refs from France-Galop - will need to find a better way if I'm going to do this regularly! It seems the Jumps results on F-G only go back to 1980, but the Flat results a couple of years earlier. (JockeyColours (talk) 22:04, 4 April 2015 (UTC))

I have found a new syntax for the France-Galop URLs which (for now) bypasses the userid/password page. I have updated the France-Galop template accordingly and the links now work - hope it lasts! I much prefer the Racing Post layout, but it seems that France-Galop have details of French races from 1979-1987 that are missing on RP, so worth using for that period. (JockeyColours (talk) 16:23, 4 April 2015 (UTC))

Brilliant work, well done for perserverence! --Bcp67 (talk) 18:58, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

Peer review request for Dave GallaherEdit

Hey mate. I'm looking for any feedback I can get on the Dave Gallaher article, and was hoping you'd be able to give me your views here. Any and all advice on the article would be greatly appreciated. -- Shudde talk 07:02, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

CheltenhamEdit

Great, isn't it? I had the update for the David Nicholson Hurdle completed with Annie Power as the winner and was all set to hit save page as she pulled clear at the last when she fell like a sack of spuds. Fortunately she bounced to her feet again shortly afterwards and will fight another day. That's jump racing for you. Tigerboy1966  20:47, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

At least you didn't actually hit the save button! Not editing much at the moment, not finding a vast amount of time for it, but will pick up again soon. Tomorrow, a day in Gloucestershire for me... --Bcp67 (talk) 21:07, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

Dubai Gold CupEdit

Can you take a look at Dubai Gold Cup which I have just created. I don't often create articles on races, so I think a few tweaks will be needed. btw, you might also like Norton's Coin which was fun to do, but took ages. Tigerboy1966  14:41, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, I'll have a look at the race article. Have already had a look through the Norton's Coin one, brings back some memories - I was there when he won the GC although naturally didn't back him! Kind of typifies what makes jump racing so great really, the no-hoper trained by the permit holder who won the biggest prize in the game. --Bcp67 (talk) 17:50, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
btw the reason I haven't created an article for a while is that I've been working on Limestone Lad (another "what makes jump racing so great" story) which has been kicking around the sandboxes for about 2 years. It's about 18k atm and is nowhere near finished, but I'm determined to get it out there before the classic madness gets under way at the end of next week. Tigerboy1966  21:39, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
Another gem there, shame he never quite managed to win a Stayers' Hurdle (I still struggle to call it the "World Hurdle", but then I still call last Saturday's feature race the Whitbread!). I did a DYK review last week so I could put up a nom but couldn't quite find anything in the article to provide a hook - any suggestions? --Bcp67 (talk) 20:01, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

2015 Epsom DerbyEdit

I am going to do some quick articles on the leading contenders. Elm Park and Epicuris are the only G1 winners, apart from Gleneagles who we have been repeatedly assured will not run but has been left in the field for some strange reason hmmm. Golden Horn is also worth an article as he looks pretty certain to go off favourite although I agree with his owner that his pedigree suggests he won't stay. Can't get my head around Zawraq's position in the market. Tigerboy1966  21:11, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Gleneagles a bit like New Approach maybe, left in "by mistake"? But he does look nothing but a miler really. Can understand why they have decided on Epsom for Golden Horn, despite the doubts re pedigree - even owners of Oppenheimer's type don't often get a live crack at THE Derby. I'm hopeful of getting the 2015 race article onto ITN within a day of two, its ITN/R which means it can get on there if its in decent shape, plenty of prose, well-refd etc, and I think it has a good chance. --Bcp67 (talk) 21:35, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
I think the article is looking very good. All credit to you. I was tempted to do mini-articles on some of the other contenders but I don't want to stuck with half a dozen stubs which would need regular updating. I'll have a dummy article in a sandbox ready to be customised if the winner isn't Golden Horn, Elm Park or Epicuris. Looks as though Gosden isn't 100% certain about running Jack Hobbs.[2]. Tigerboy1966  22:06, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
Thank you, it'll need a decent bit on the race itself, which I won't be able to do myself until Sunday at the earliest, so feel free if you want to pile in with something. Interesting about Hobbs - I saw Gosden on tv after the Dante and he didn't seem certain then about whether he might skip the Derby and head for Ascot, he felt the horse was still a bit green.--Bcp67 (talk) 04:34, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
Gosden felt the same about Nathaniel a few years ago. Anyway... if you won't be around to update the page on the day I thought I would add a "Full result" infobox as well as a description of the race. I was going to use the same infobox in previous years but I was wondering if you would prefer a modified version of the "Race card" infobox already in the article. I will probably be rooting for Success Days: firstly, its a "true underdog story" and secondly, given his ownership, a Derby win is the only thing that can prevent a trip to the vets for intimate surgery followed by a plane ride to Hong Kong. Tigerboy1966  21:36, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
Haha, yes. I think the full result format from previous years would work OK and be consistent with the other Derby articles - the SP can come out of the racecard, its more relevant to the result than the card. Using the same result format would mean jockeys and trainers being listed twice, but that's no great issue really. Up to you, no problem with how it looks in the end as long as the details are in there. I might put the usual sections in today and comment them out, to save a bit of time later on. I'll be an interested tv watched rather than a gambler today, I hardly bet now and given my preference for the winter game I'll look at this as the best Triumph Hurdle trial!!! --Bcp67 (talk) 06:44, 6 June 2015 (UTC)

Charles or CharlieEdit

Charles Hills or Charlie Hills? What do you think? He could do with an article either way. Tigerboy1966  13:38, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

I think I've used both when updating results! RP and the Guardian racing pages both use Charlie today, so I reckon that's the one to go with. Agree he should join his father and many siblings with an article here. Thanks for sticking in the Ascot results, makes life much easier for me, cheers. --Bcp67 (talk) 20:38, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Well, you learn something new everyday. I would definitely go for placing him in deaths in Wales. Thanks for your edits on Carl Llewellyn. SethWhales talk 10:37, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

1984 DerbyEdit

Well done for digging out that book. Timeform's annual for 1984 doesn't have the usual results section. I managed to find most of the jockeys from newspaper articles (but not George Duffield). The finishing order was partly compiled by watching the race over & over on youtube! Tigerboy1966  22:19, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Thank you. Recovered from the loft! Good back actually, the forerunner of the Ladbrokes Pocket Companions but in a bigger format, I also have the 1986 and 1987 editions. There is some curiousity though as it shows Northern Fred last rather than Cataldi and the beaten distances don't seem to include all 16 places. The result is in an article which concludes that the standard of the 1984 race was very poor when considering the post-race performances of the runners, with only EGS being up to standard. --Bcp67 (talk) 22:23, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

North Midlands CupEdit

Bcp67,

Hi - I noticed you created the North Midlands RFU page which is a welcome addition to our rugby union pages. I have just created the North Midlands Cup page and will follow up with the North Midlands Shield and Vase pages. I am a Cornish rugby club fan so my knowledge of Midlands rugby is ok but not great. Please could you check the page(s) to ensure that I am not missing anything as some information is a little hard to find? Thanks. Jgjsmith006 (talk) 17:02, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

My knowledge of Midlands rugby might be less than ok actually. I start up a few bits and pieces on county unions and other amateur-era stuff, and I'm out in the rugby wilderness of East Anglia! I'll look at the articles though and see if I can add anything from my reference books here. Thanks for the message, and you create some excellent stuff yourself. --Bcp67 (talk) 22:00, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

2016 Epsom DerbyEdit

Amazing in-depth work on this article. I am going to post The Gurkha some time this week as he has a G1 in the bag. If the fillies don't turn up I wouldn't look past him and Wings Of Desire (I hate that capital "O" in "Of" but that's the way it is). Tigerboy1966  20:26, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Thank you, I'm hoping it will be ready for ITN/R after the race, although I won't be around for the weekend itself so it will need some updating. I'd maybe like to work it up to GA one day, it's a long way short at the moment. I think I prefe the capital O myself! More interested in another Of, Cloth Of/of Stars. --Bcp67 (talk) 20:31, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
Midterm out with stress fracture. Algometer wins Cocked Hat. And RP have started using a small "o", at least in results/analysis sections. Tigerboy1966  18:44, 20 May 2016 (UTC)
Small o it probably is then! Thanks for the info, not seen the Midterm news until now. I'll update the 2016 Derby article further over the weekend. Not long until we find out who fancies ponying up the £75K for an extra shot. --Bcp67 (talk) 20:11, 20 May 2016 (UTC)
It's starting to look like a glorified St Leger trial, but who knows what will happen. If ever a horse had "sixth in the Derby" written all over him it's Red Verdon. Now we just have to work out the five horses who'll finish in front of him. I'm liking Massaat atm. Tigerboy1966  19:56, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

Epsom Derby template moveEdit

I noticed that you !voted oppose in the RM for the template {{EpsomDerby}}, and that you seem to have a high stake in Wikipedia:WikiProject Horse racing, so I thought it courteous to reach out. I've moved both {{Epsom Derby}} and {{Kentucky Derby}} to match the naming guidelines suggested at Wikipedia:Template namespace#Template names. This was an uncontroversial move, and I've introduced direct links to these templates on transcluding pages, and I believe it's all taken care of. If there are any queries, let me know. Cheers. — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 01:09, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

Thank you - and thanks for all the work with the direct links. I wasn't massively opposed to the move, it makes sense, but the nominator could have done with making some attempt at a rationale I thought. Thanks again and all the best! --Bcp67 (talk) 16:24, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

1980 Epsom DerbyEdit

I have got a sandbox article here User:Tigerboy1966/sandbox12, please take a look. I am struggling to complete the finishing order and the youtube videos are no help as they are very poor quality and most of the horses finished in a heap. Well done on beating me to the punch on the July Cup yesterday, I had my "Quiet Reflection wins" update all ready to go at the click of the mouse. Odd thing is that Henry Candy was involved at the business end of both races, 36 years apart! Tigerboy1966  14:25, 10 July 2016 (UTC)

I thought I'd just short-headed you on the July Cup, I had it ready to go just inside the final furlong! Candy seems to have had a resurgence with his sprinters lately. I'll have a look at the 1980 Derby but I have to say I have no written references here back that far so I might be able to call on - all my stuff starts around 1984, 85. --Bcp67 (talk) 19:34, 10 July 2016 (UTC)

St LegerEdit

Hope you get a chance to watch the St Leger tomorrow. I think Idaho is a stone cold certainty and I will have an article posted within seconds of him crossing the line ten lengths clear of his hapless adversaries. That's the theory anyhow. Given my record as a tipster he will will probably run like a three-legged donkey with gout. Tigerboy1966  19:46, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

Didn't watch it until this morning, without knowing the result - your last sentence seems ominously accurate now! Sorry it didn't work out for you. Nightmare weekend for results, one of the busiest of the year for pattern races all over Europe, just catching with it up all now.--Bcp67 (talk) 20:13, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

John Jackett Falmouth & LeicesterEdit

Hi there, thanks for your thoughts on my edits to the 1907 & 09 Home Nations championship regarding John Jackett. At such a removed time it is difficult to say exactly where he should be recorded as playing. At the time club membership was not exclusive like it is now, he was definitely a member of Leicester and playing regularly (24 games out of 35 games he was available for in the 08/09 season) but might have also been a playing member of Falmouth as there weekends "blank" between Leicester and England games, likely these were Cornwall and trial games but I can't be certain or prove that. Personally I would say we have a reliable source showing him regularly playing for Leicester and a source showing him as a member of Falmouth but no source showing how often he played for Falmouth. I don't mind the proposed change to (Falmouth/Leicester) but personally don't think it is an accurate reflection of where he was a playing member at the time.Skeene88 (talk) 11:23, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

2017 Bill Beaumont CupEdit

Hi - I have created a page for the 2017 Bill Beaumount Cup (tier 1) and will create pages for the other two tiers this week. The structure the RFU is introducing is very confusing with only the promotion/relegation over 2 years making any sense to me. Also, they have eliminated the Lancashire v Yorkshire fixture this season which was one of the best attended of recent years. I will add more information as it becomes available but feel free to add input. Thanks. Jgjsmith006 (talk) 18:01, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, and apologies for not replying to your reply back in August. The new structure doesn't look great, does it, but at least the 2-year setup will give a proper set of home & away games for each team. Will take a look at the new page and chip in where I can. --Bcp67 (talk) 22:07, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
No problem - I have now created pages for the 2017 County Championship Plate and 2017 County Championship Shield (as well as adding missing final results for the Plate competition which I initially thought started in 2005 but actually began in 2002). Charlie TriggEdit

Hi, thanks for your help in tidying up the page which I started recently. The subject is a distant cousin of my late grandmother, but I feel I am suitably distanced from the subject as he died almost 30 years before I was born. I discovered the family link only recently, and was disappointed not to be able to find a Wikipedia entry for him... so, I thought, why not start one?!

I was wondering whether you had any thoughts on how I could improve this article, beyond trying to source information on the numbers of winners ridden per year during his career, and perhaps his annual positions in the lists of leading jockeys. I don't think Charlie would ever be among the very best articles in the project, but I would like to do the best job I can for him. Thanks again. - Steve cov (talk) 15:57, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

That's a nice connection for you, and I can't see any conflict of interest there with a distant relative who died many years ago. I hadn't heard of Charlie Trigg before I saw you link to the Epsom Oaks article - he was a Classic-winning jockey anyway, and that's something to be proud of. I did look in some reference books I have but found nothing, sadly. Might be difficult to source those sorts of information about winners ridden from the early 20th century too, records weren't that well kept I think and as you mentioned the Champion Jockey title itself was unofficial. It's a decent article which you've created, gives a picture of Charlie and his life and career - hope you can find some more. Maybe online newspaper archives might provide something? All the best! --Bcp67 (talk) 16:15, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts... I already have a little more source material from the newspaper archives on the end-of-season leading jockeys lists, together with some nice images which would now be out of copyright (including a picture of the notorious Mrs Trigg), so I will keep looking and hopefully get a full set of year-by-year numbers of winners. - Steve cov (talk) 17:03, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
I've now completed as much as I have which I think worthy of inclusion, so in time I'd be glad of a review of the Start-Class rating which Charlie currently has. :-) - Steve cov (talk) 21:03, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

2017 Epsom DerbyEdit

Do you have any plans on this article to match your epic effort on the 2016 edition? As it looks like we might well have a race without any previous G1 winners I am hemming and hawing about doing an article for any of the leading contenders. Cliffs of Moher looks like being Coolmore's chosen one and the British seem to have gone dippy over Cracksman on the grounds that he represents the Golden Horn team and has a cool-sounding name. I will be hoping that Permian takes the Derby for the North and Dubai Thunder (another cool name) might be anything but honestly, none of these horses looks NOTABLE atm. Any thoughts? Tigerboy1966  20:09, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

No plans to make the 2017 article match the 2016 - just haven't had the time this year to do much apart from keep the results ticking over and not really close to the Derby contenders - good luck with Permian - who was the last Northern winner - was it Dante? --Bcp67 (talk) 20:18, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

OverlinkingEdit

Thanks for the heads up. Have read the guidance and have also completed an entry for Gay Spartan with the linking just about right .. I think ? On a slightly different matter, do you know if pages of a racecourse racecard are subject to copyright restrictions. I wanted to add the racecard page for the 1979 Embassy Premier Chase Final on my Silver Buck entry, as I think it would add some nostalgia to it.However, from my understanding the racecard, though owned by myself, is the property of the racecourse copywright wise and cannot be published in a wiki article. I guess it would be the same for personal photos. Border Incident (talk) 15:02, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

Linking in the Gay Spartan article looks good, I did a small copyedit for a bit of spacing after full stops and commas etc. I reckon that you are right about copyright and that you can't show them here - photos I am not sure about. I think in racecards there is usually some line about not publishing them without permission of the course, but there are plenty of racehorse photos on wikipedia articles which were taken at the races and have been uploaded, so I'd go ahead with those if I were you. You aren't using them for publication for any personal gain in any case. All the best --Bcp67 (talk) 07:29, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Re the name: Thanks. I went to Meehan where he was listed as Brian J. Meehan. Unfortunately I screwed up his stub article by not realizing the horse name setup with each race. So, later I'll fix it. Stretchrunner (talk) 20:19, 28 June 2018 (UTC)

United States Champion Jockey by winsEdit

Can you, or someone you know, help out. I just revised the United States Champion Jockey by wins list and its very long. I don't know how or if possible to do it, but can/should it be split into two, maybe three columns? Thanks. Stretchrunner (talk) 16:37, 12 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi User:Stretchrunner, there is a template called which you can use to divide a list into two or more columns - have a look at Template:Div col for the details. Hope that helps get you started with splitting that list.--Bcp67 (talk) 20:52, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. I played around with diffent things including "Div Col" but it seems to work only for columns. The Jockey win list is a table which has three distinct columns and each requires alignment. Apparently a table can't be broken like "Div Col" does. I ended up creating something that is almost 100% and, to me, looks good. I left a "help" note in the edit summary and another note on the Talk page asking for anyone who has technical knowledge of such things to look at it. Stretchrunner (talk) 15:38, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

duplicate horse namesEdit

Need some help if you can. I created a new article for Sir Harry (Canadian horse) as there was a Sir Harry already. I just moved that Sir Harry to Sir Harry (British horse) but it didn't achieve what I wanted as a search for Sir Harry redirects to the Brit horse. Do you know how to set this up so a search for Sir Harry will show a choice? Thanks. Stretchrunner (talk) 21:52, 2 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi Stretchrunner, you could take the redirect page for Sir Harry, and make into a disambiguation (dab) page with links to both the articles. An example is Nimbus (horse), which is a dab page for three different horses. Have a go at doing it and I'll take a look when its done. --Bcp67 (talk) 20:18, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

New race?Edit

I'm just working up an article on Mabs Cross and found that she won the "EBF Musselburgh Fillies' Sprint Stakes (Listed Race) (Registered As The Arran Stakes)" last October. I've never heard of the race. Do you want to add it? Tigerboy1966  08:01, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the message - this was a new Listed that year and it's part of the Ayr Gold Cup meeting, which fell victim to waterlogging. The race was rescheduled for Musselburgh a few weeks later, won by Mabs Cross. Article here Arran Scottish Fillies' Sprint Stakes. Will have a look at the Mabs Cross article when its done - all the best! --Bcp67 (talk) 10:24, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

I just watched the Gunsmoke episode “McCabe” you reference (Kemp and Davis both star in it), and while looking up Wiki info on Kemp, noticed the picture was of Davis instead. I took a picture of Kemp from the episode if you’d like it. Fluff61 (talk) 01:02, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the message but I only changed a link on the article to point to a tv series rather than a racehorse, so I don't know anything about the subject or the picture, sorry. --Bcp67 (talk) 08:09, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
