AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!
Greetings!
After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.
The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

- Hello O.ominirabluejack -- thanks for the offer of help! I would be glad to have your assistance. Bringing an article up to GA standards typically involves a few things: (1) ensuring that all article text is properly cited/sourced from reliable sources, (2) ensuring that the writing is clear and aligns with the Wikipedia Manual of Style, and (3) ensuring that the article uses well-captioned public domain images, contains useful links, is tagged with correct categories, etc. You can check out this page about Good Article criteria for more information.
- For the past few weeks, I've been reviewing sources/citations currently used in the Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti article. I've removed sources that either don't support the content or are unreliable (there were a couple of sources cited that were written based on the Wikipedia article, making them "circular" references), and I've edited/corrected some of the Wikipedia text to more accurately reflect what the sources say. At this point, there are several paragraphs in the article that have no citations to back them up. Would you be interested in helping me fix this? It would involve doing some research, identifying reliable sources, and using those sources to support the Ransome-Kuti article. - Also, would you perhaps give me advice concerning something else? I've edited the chief's page and a number of others to use pre-nominal honorifics in the introductions. These were reverted, and I was then warned about the three strike reversion rule when I edited them again. My contention is this: If European aristocrats are allowed to use their styles and honorifics, why aren't we allowed to use ours? Standard policy (if in fact that is what it is) should apply to everyone, and when it appears to be selectively applied, it breeds resentment.

We should never be selectively applying the rules. I would note, however, that pre-nominal honorifics and titles are not typically used throughout an entire Wikipedia article. They usually appear at the beginning of the introduction section ("Chief Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti..."), and they are mentioned when writing about how they were received ("Ransome-Kuti was named a chief..."), but Wikipedia style generally dictates that biographical articles refer to people by last name only in the body of the article -- no honorifics. I think we should follow that style. Were you able to resolve the disagreement with the other editor? I resolved the matter with one editor (Kunkuru) who saw my point in the end, but by then another one (Binksternet) had also become involved. He was the one who deleted my most recent contributions.
