Thanks, I will definitely check out all the resources you have given. I really appreciate it :) A 10 fireplane (talk) 14:22, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Just be aware that some projects have as much good intro info as do some of the links above -

Military History
Ships

were the 'greats' about 7 years ago - they ruled the waves and air at the time - however with various shifts things move - it is well worth getting a handle on the variations that some projects have in ideas about scope and MOS and so on - it is all great fun! (discovering things) JarrahTree 14:30, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Got it, thanks again A 10 fireplane (talk) 14:34, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Welcome to Milhist!

Thank you I'm glad to be apart of it :) A 10 fireplane (talk) 16:13, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

Per your request, item repaired.

I repaired the infobox for you on USS Oregon (BB-3), but wanted to show you where the answer was. Template:Infobox ship career under Custom Fields near the bottom. When you have trouble with a template check its document page. I find them by searching,

Thanks for the reason to learn something new today! ---> Darryl.P.Pike (talk) 22:01, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Aircraft

Thanks for signing up for this project. It is a very busy and active project with lots going on and we can always use more help and especially a fresh set of eyes. If you haven't done so already you might want to add Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft to your watch list as this is where much of the background discussion occurs. You may also want to watch Wikipedia:New articles (Aircraft) as this is where newly created articles get listed for peer review. Having a look over these new articles is a great way to get a feel for how things are done on the project and also most new articles need reviewing anyway. If you have any questions you can leave me a note or post at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft, either way you will get a quick response. - Ahunt (talk) 20:07, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

@Ahunt: awesome thanks great to be apart of it, I'm glad to help out and share my knowledge, I will definitely add them to my watch list A 10 fireplane (talk) 13:29, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I realize you're new here, but typically questions about articles are posted on the article's talk page, not user talk pages. I know I prefer that and that's why I specifically requested as such, clearly at the top of my talk page. Your question has been moved to the article talk page and addressed there. Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Cheers, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:54, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

How do I install twinkle?

You should have a new "TW" tab with a drop-down menu at the top, between "More" and the search bar (at least if you use the default Vector skin; otherwise I'd look somewhere near wherever page moves are located in the other skins). Huon (talk) 19:06, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi everyone, just a quick reminder that voting for the WikiProject Military history coordinator election closes soon. You only have a day or so left to have your say about who should make up the coordination team for the next year. If you have already voted, thanks for participating! If you haven't and would like to, vote here before 23:59 UTC on 28 September. Thanks, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 03:29, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

How do I upload images

I have some photos from another website, how do I upload them and make sure I don't violate copyright? A 10 fireplane (talk) 16:23, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

Most of the time, photos you find on another website are considered copyrighted unless you can provide specific evidence that they are in the public domain (documented as being published in the U.S. before 1922, for instance). You can also upload photos that have a credible indication of being licensed in a way that is compatible with Wikipedia, even though they are copyrighted. The whole subject is complicated and you are right to be cautious.
To get started with uploading, you first need to realize that the photos will be hosted at Wikimedia Commons rather than on the English Wikipedia itself. My best advice is go to c:Commons:First steps and follow their instructions. Wikimedia Commons is a separate organization, different rules, different admins (mostly) than English Wikipedia, though both are under the umbrella of the Wikimedia Foundation. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 16:54, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
@Jmcgnh: thank you, one more question. If the photos where taken by an employee of the US Navy then aren't they in the public domain? A 10 fireplane (talk) 17:00, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
An employee of the U.S. Navy, taking photos as part of their job as a photographer for the navy, is creating photos that are inherently in the public domain. But the employee's snapshots at home while off from work would not generally fall into the public domain. But I'm an amateur at photo copyright stuff. The better experts are at Commons, so you should be asking them for clarifications. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 17:13, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

Nominating a draft for deleation

How do I nominate a draft for deleation? A 10 fireplane Imform me 17:54, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

Deleting a draft

Did you mean to archive your question before it could be answered?

Anyway, if it's your own draft, meaning you were the only contributor to the draft, you can request speedy deletion by placing {{db-author}} at the top and saving it. It will usually be deleted by an admin in a few minutes, but sometimes it may take a while longer or they may decline your request because other editors have made contributions to the draft.

If it's someone else's draft, the venue for deletion is Miscellany for Deletion (or is that "Discussion"). Using Twinkle is the easiest way to do this, since doing it manually requires a number of steps. You have to give a valid policy-based reason for the deletion and a discussion will generally ensue that may take a week or more to come to a conclusion. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 18:56, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Changing Signature

Hello, I am considering changing my Signature to something seasonal but I'd assume that constantly changing your signature is against Wikipedia policies as it would get confusing. Is changing my signature frequency against policy? A 10 fireplane Imform me 01:27, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

There is no policy against changing signatures frequently, although I would personally recommend not to change it too often (it could become confusing). Happy holidays! Vermont (talk) 03:20, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

(edit conflict)

As long as your signature meets the signature guidelines, which it appears your proposed seasonal signature does, there is no reason why you can't change it from time to time. Changing it frequently might be considered, if not disruptive, at least a potential sign of NOTHERE, though. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 03:29, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi A 10 fireplane. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Bassmint Productions/Soul Intent

I'm D.J. Butter Fingers, this is my history. What is on here, as far as when Soul Intent was formed, as well as some past members, is incorrect. The previous info that was on here 5 years ago was almost completely false, which is why I changed it, and since that time, it's been edited to death, with everyone adding things that are factually wrong or removing things that are factually correct. What I'm trying to do is put it back to some form that I had it 5 years ago. DJbuttehfingiz111 (talk) 17:57, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

re: contribution undone

Hi A 10 fireplane, thank you for letting me know that my change was reverted. I made the change because there was a small but significant typo on the page (should be 71% not 1%, according to the paper it refers to). I'm not sure what the protocol is here. I just made my account today to fix this one thing and am completely lost. Would you mind telling me how I can get the page corrected if I cannot change it myself? Thanks again! WP:UAA reports on users with no edits

Generally, there is no reason to report usernames with no edits whatsoever. Per WP:UAAI: "Wait until the user edits. Do not report a user that hasn't edited unless they are clearly a vandal. We do not want to welcome productive editors with a report at UAA, nor do we want to waste our time dealing with accounts that may never be used." The exceptions are obvious hate speech or names that attack a living person/Wikipedia editor, those are blockable even without any edits, but other run-of-the-mill violations need not be reported unless and until they at least attempt to edit, and you should be able to clearly explain what the problem is if it is not immediately evident.

For whatever reason, every day dozens, if not hundreds of accounts are created that never make one single edit. It is our responsibility as admins to conscientiously review every report a user makes at UAA, so we have to check for contribs, deleted contribs, and tripping of the edit filter for every one of these reports, only to find out there's nothing there and therefore no problem to be solved. That's time that could be spent doing more productive things, but you basically obligate admins to do it by making such reports. Beeblebrox (talk) 23:55, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

@Beeblebrox: I understand not wanting to waste admins time, if a user had a blatant username violation it seams the most logical thing for me would be to report them. However I don't want to cause any disruption. But are you saying you wouldn't want me to report a user (I report today) with the name "GAy Boig" just because there where no edits? A 10 fireplane Imform me 00:02, 21 February 2019 (UTC)
Yes. Only the very worst of the worst usernames merit a block when they have not even attempted to edit. Hate speech, attacking specific living persons or Wikipedia users, that sort of thing should be reported no matter what, but something more marginal like this should not be reported if they have not edited. What is offensive is of course very much a matter of perspective and opinion, but this probably isn't blockable even if they do edit. People are allowed to self-identify as gay if they want to. Response from User talk:Brainiac245

I figure a stricter warning will discourage users from vandalizing more. Brainiac245 (talk) 19:43, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

@Brainiac245:While this is true it could also discourage good faith editors. Its your choice but personally I would only use level 3's in obvious cases of vandalism   A 10 fireplane Imform me 19:46, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

re my edit

hi sorry if you didn't like my edit. i'm new here and wikipedia asked me to edit chueshov page. (b. 1979) is standard usage for born in 1979. but if you don't like it, that's fine. --Avilon14 (talk) 17:47, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

@Avilon14:While I doubt Wikipedia asked you to edit, we normally use Born in 1979 rather than b. 1997. Just so you know   A 10 fireplane Imform me 19:52, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

What to do

hey, I edited Mrs. Benson's page to include an updated biography. I see that it was reverted back, and I'm wondering what steps I need to take to update her biography to a more recent and accurate portrayal. /* Legacy */ "Human" instead of "people".

Hi,

I don't know if I should talk in Serbian, but I'll continue in English. The edit I made was to change the translation of "ljudi" from "people", to "human". In my opinion, the intent of the original text was to identify the ability of "we", the Serbian people, to forgive, as human beings. The word "people" has no place there, it would mean that the original is questioning the existence of "we" as people, which makes no sense in the context. The focus is on the ability to forgive.

Best regards,

Wallingford Bridge

The number of arches making up Wallingford Bridge is 19, just this morning I counted them. There are 16 arches visible on the north side and 19 on the south. I can also sight https://thames.me.uk/s01330.htm which also states 19 arches. On checking I can say that there isn't room for 22 arches. Some sources state 17, others historically state 19. Only Wikipedia states incorrectly 22. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mercator1953 (talkcontribs) 15:02, 21 March 2019 (UTC)

adjacent means

'The relation between two vertices that are both endpoints of the same edge'

and incident means

1. The relation between an edge and one of its endpoints.[2] 2. Two edges are said to be incident if they share a vertex. (cf. adjacent)

Word 'walk' at W section, It is correct to write an incident because it mentions two edges. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Younghaha (talkcontribs) 14:54, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

Your 'autofill'

Hi, at User talk:A 10 fireplane/Archive 1#Grammar you mentioned to me last November that you use an 'autofill' when editing Wikipedia. However, I suggest to stop using it altogether, as it seems to do more harm than good to your spelling/grammar. For instance, in your talk page archive I spotted over a dozen spelling/grammatical errors in your messages, several of which persist repeatedly throughout the page, e.g. using 'its' when 'it's' should be used; using 'your' when 'you're' should be used; using 'imformation' instead of 'information' (which must be due to the 'autofill'). Also, please be careful not to make obvious typos such as 'brinning' and 'deleation'. In this edit you wrote 'awnsered' and 'awnsers', also due to your faulty autofill. Regards, JACKINTHEBOXTALK 09:05, 21 April 2019 (UTC)

Also, be sure to use an apostrophe when indicating possession, e.g. article's instead of articles, admins' instead of admins (the apostrophe goes after the 's' when the noun is plural, unless the plural form of the noun does not add an 's', e.g. people's, sheep's, data's, women's). JACKINTHEBOXTALK 09:08, 21 April 2019 (UTC)
  • @JackintheBox:Autofill refers to a replacement of a misspelled word. I am not responsible for it and nor do I control it. The 'grammar' issue was it, however all the mistakes on my talk archive are me. Out of the 200+ editors I have come across you are the only one to ever comment on it. Making me think that you would like me to spend more time writing a simple "I have read you comment" messages than actually contributing to Wikipedia. A 10 fireplane Inform me 03:38, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
That was certainly not my intention. The reason I brought it up was to suggest how you could reduce the number of spelling/grammatical errors when contributing to Wikipedia. Such errors could potentially reduce the encyclopædia’s quality and may confuse other users/readers, even when it’s a talk page message. Also, I don’t know if it was intentional, but you wrote ‘you’ in the above comment instead of ‘your’, and ‘messages’ in plural instead of singular. JACKINTHEBOXTALK 05:22, 25 April 2019 (UTC)
I have no problem with you finding typos and grammatical errors—which I'm barely seeing—in A10F's edits, but if the edits aren't in the article namespace, I don't see any imperative reason to do so. By the way, due to the background color of this page, the blue links are hurting my eyes.RainFall 06:12, 25 April 2019 (UTC)
@JackintheBox: Oh ok thank you for explaining. I have always had trouble with spelling, especially online. I will try to cut down on the number of typos I have. Sorry for sounding defensive above   A 10 fireplane Inform me 13:51, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

2019 US Banknote Contest

  US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

It was not an unconstructive edit. It was a Warning so people did not get a virus. Also, I added a screenshot and logo (witch for some reason di not show up but were definitely there in the code) and proper redirect links to the web archiver (archive.org) so people could see what the site use to look like and read there shutdown msg. and as I said in the "What did you change" section this was the first time editing a WIKI so I'm still learning the system.

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!
