Tell us about yourself using userboxes

Userboxes are for decorating your userpage and to tell little details about yourself. They have become a fun tradition on Wikipedia. Userboxes help other Wikipedians to know a brief summary about you; you can tell other Wikipedians that you come from Switzerland, that you like classical music, etc.

There are hundreds of premade userboxes to choose from.

And it is easy to design new userboxes. They require just three things to make them: the userbox template, the name of an icon image page, and a blurb that you type in. To see the code for the userbox included here click "Edit" on the toolbar above.

Belhouari abdderahmane edit

It's pretty obvious that Belhouari abdderahmane is a machine translation of the French article fr:Abderrahmane Belhouari. The words are translated but it reads like nonsense in English. If you're not confident in your own English it would be better to contribute on those wikis where you are more fluent in the language...

Proposed deletion of Belhouari abdderahmane edit

The article Belhouari abdderahmane has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Incomprehensible machine translation of fr:Abderrahmane Belhouari

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Disambiguation link notification for October 2 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Kel Ahaggar, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Confederacy (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

October 2017 edit

Hello, I'm TJH2018. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Kingdom of Ait Abbas, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Please read this carefully as you are creating copyright violations edit

Hi. I see that you have been creating articles translated from other language Wikipedias. That's okay, but you have to give attribution so that our readers are made aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself. Please make sure that you follow this legal requirement when copying from compatibly-licensed material in the future.

Here are the relevant instructions from Wikipedia:Translation.

How to translate edit

Articles on a given subject in different languages are typically edited independently, and need not correspond closely in form, style or content. If portions of an article appear to be low-quality or unverifiable, use your judgment and do not translate those portions. Once you have finished translating, you may ask a proofreader to check the translation.

The new, translated article must credit the source article. The recommended way to do this is to do both of the following:

  • (a) Provide in the first edit summary of the target article a statement of your translation, together with an interlanguage link to the source (translated-from) article. Example: Content in this edit is translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Exact name of French article]]; see its history for attribution.
  • (b) Place the template {{Translated page}} on the target article's talk page.

You are not required to import the revision history, but if you wish to do so, ask at Wikipedia:Requests for page importation for the page to either be imported into your userspace or over your translated version of the article. (See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia, and its section at WP:RIA if you find a translation that failed to provide mandatory copyright attribution.)

Avoid being overly influenced by the style of the original. With the exception of quotations, use normal English encyclopedic style, as appropriate for the topic.

The English text should be understandable to a wide audience, so – other things being equal – use everyday English expressions rather than jargon or foreign expressions. It may be necessary to add material explaining terms or cultural concepts unfamiliar to English-speaking readers.

Avoid machine translations edit

Translation takes work. Machine translation almost always produces very low-quality results. Wikipedia consensus is that an unedited machine translation, left as a Wikipedia article, is worse than nothing. (This is partly because translation templates automatically carry links to machine translations, so readers can easily access machine translations anyway‍—‌pasting a machine translation into an "article" really achieves nothing).

Please do this with the articles you have created before doing any more editing. Thanks. Doug Weller talk 15:17, 15 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I'm Boleyn. بلهواري محمد فيصل, thanks for creating Battle of Kalaa of the Beni Abbes (1559)!

@Boleyn:, the editor has been blocked at ANI for creating very bad unattributed machine translations of articles from other Wikipedias. They haven't responded to requests in English, French or Arabic. The article you tagged isn't likely to be improved. Doug Weller talk 20:10, 21 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
