I was working on L also. Just a small nit-pick: there was no need, IMO, to create a redirect from Louis Especially. This was one of several cases where the processing bot spotted a capitalized word at the beginning of a line, and incorrectly interpreted that as an article. Nobody would look for Louis of Conti using that name. Its just a small piece of redirect noise, but I think we can use common sense here.

Image:Adb.jpg has no source info, but another Xanadu photo you uploaded says it is from your personal collection. Can you clarify.

Computer Cooling?

I saw that you set up a redirect from Liquid Cooling of Computers to Computer cooling as a result of the AfD decision. Did you / do you plan to merge the info in? I haven't looked to see how similar the two articles are, other than remembering the LCC article had a bunch of additional info in it (however useful it was).

If you were planning on merging then I won't go through the trouble of checking. :)

Thanks for the message you left me. I had put a number of anonymous edits on the Alphonso Lingis article. (I simply haven't had the time yet to sit down and create an account and so forth, but will do that soon.)

In the meantime, there is a problem with that page (I am not the one who created it, by the way)...

The page does not show up if you search for Lingis, but only if you search for Alphonso Lingis. There must be an easy way to fix that, but I'm really an amateur and don't know many of the basics yet.

Thank you for putting it nicely. I do understand that people have different ways of doing things, but 30 edits in a row is absolutely maddening. How do I figure out what went wrong where (pardon the alliteration)? I do agree that he has things to contribute, and I find some of what he does useful. At first I started picking through the edits, opening multiple windows (tabs aren't good enough sometimes), pasting them into MS Word, and then comparing and contrasting various bits of damage. Last night when I asked him to please try to condense into a few edits, he comes back and bangs out thirty more. It's driving me nuts!

However, I also find some of it not only in a point of view, but very poorly worded, almost as if it were someone with English as their second language. I have addressed this on his page, and I hope he responds to it all right.

As for doing things in multiple sections (ok, well I've already addressed it, but here's addendum :D), that's what the Preview button is for. Have you taken a look at his posts? He either makes radical changes (true, some of them are more than welcome), or he makes tiny edits to the point where I literally can't see what he did, even with a comparison chart pulled up. It almost looks as if he's' double, triple and quadruple-posting the same edit. I'm sure that's an accident, but I think it needs to stop.

Don't you find it the least bit frustrating? If you'd like, I'll pull out some of his edits which I find distressing.

The only reason I'm not actually mad at him, is because he means well, on top of the fact that he does have things to add.

P.S., this is not a chronic type of thing for me, to be honest this is the first person whom I have come across that continues to do edits like this. 99% of the time, when I read new edits, I find myself smiling and nodding at the new material added, or rolling my eyes in agreement with the grammar or criteria changes made to clearly absurd edits.

Hi there. I see you've tagged a couple of articles for speedy deletion as "advertisement/self promotion". This isn't usually speediable unless the article is a single external link or a blatant platform for one. WP:VAND does allow pure spam to be speedied, but I don't think that's what these articles were. Better to take them to AfD in future, as I just did with Gamers LTD and Game Freaks 365. I removed it because there is a screenshot on the same page that is exactly the same, so what are the advantages of having your re-created example on the page too? If there were advantages to it, I wouldn't have removed it - but there aren't, because of the screenshot. I know that we've only just met, but I thought I'd alert you to the fact that User Redwolf kindly nominated me for adminship last week, which I accepted.

Regrettably, this has coincided with a stouch with several huge egos whose FAC I helped on, and then critiqued after they'd trashed my entire contribution. I normally shun conflict, but here, I'm emersed in it, and I feel utterly destroyed. One of the protagonists appears to be drumming up support for his cause on other people's talk pages.

If the nomination fails Monday night, which appears likely now since the 75/25 voting balance is borderline, I'll be trashing my personal page and not returning: it's just too embarrassing and unpleasant to go on.

You popped up on my watch list and it occured to me that I never responded to one of your posts to me (which I always do). It's history now, but I thought it was a fair neutral and left as neutral. I looked at your contrib's and see you're doing excellent on summaries (though maybe take it easy on the minor button).

Also, thought I'd comment on Bill Gates as you seem to have some comp knowledge. It really needs a thorough going-over--perhaps, even a user page start-up and subsequent full replacement. I tried to tone down the criticism, such as the BS about his charity work. He could wind-up achieving more in this regard than his achievements at MS (not an over-statement) particularly if he's instrumental in a malaria vaccine. Xanadu House

I'm still working on a more thorough look at Xanadu House's Featured Article nomination, and it may be a few days before I finish (I'm doing gradschool apps at the moment). I see that you've put a lot of work into the article, and I'm trying to help out with some of my stylistic concerns. This is a very interesting topic; I hadn't known anything about experimental architecture. But I wanted to mention now that the comparative lack of citation is going to be one of my objections. You seem to have enough References, but the article doesn't contain very many inline citations. Ideally, I would hope for specific factual information (dates, visitor numbers, etc.) to be cited; a page number would be optimal. Statements about the designer's inspirations and influences could also use citations, or even notes in the text ("In his autobiography, Masters indicated that he was inspired by the Kensington House (footnote)"). Those kinds of in-text citations can be particularly helpful in flagging information that's only available from a single first-person source (journals, interviews, biographies). Thanks for your edits, but the links, in my view, are undesirable. Linking 'author' and 'English language' turns WP into a dictionary; '20th century' is a low-value chronological link, not recommended under WP policy. See Wikipedia:Make only links relevant to the context, Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links)#Internal links and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)#Date formatting.

High-value links are part of WP's uniqueness, and of great benefit. But I firmly believe that only high-value links should be used.

Josh—Hope my edits didn't offend you; it's a good article. In connection with Patrick White, if you ever get around to reading one of his novels, my recommendation is The fringe of leaves (1976). Coming just after his Nobel prize, he was happy with himself, and it shows in the writing. All about the prententiousness of the colonial British class system, and the iniquities of race and gender. Delrina article and FAC

Thanks for checking up on the status of the Delrina article. I didn't want to do a Hollaback Girl and re-submit prior to adding more material to the article and giving it a thorough copyedit. Last night I added more material to the Berkeley Systems v. Delrina case, and over the past week have been adding and clarifying points derived from the old Corporate Reports I dug out at the local Reference Library.

I am just making certain that the next time I submit, it'll be harder to reject. :-)

The only way this is going to pass is if you trim back the size—just a gesture might be enough to persuade Raul654 that the critics' objections have been taken seriously. So it doesn't have to go down to 32 or 40, but at least a few Kb down; then a note to that effect on the FAC page, saying how it's improved the article, thank you, etc. All we want is the promotion, eh? Celine Dion

This is probably a bother, but could you please take another look at the Céline Dion article. Ive taken the comments at the last FA and have tried to address them: Ive found many print sources, about 4 Books, more authoritative reviews:New york Times, Billboard.com, Los Angeles Times etc. Ive addressed her music, changes in sounds/genres, motivation etc. at the end of each sub-section, and Ive also added a "Image and Celebrity status" section at the bottom. Apple Macintosh

I suppose. I've always been on forums with double, triple even quadruple posters, and they've always driven me up the wall. The problem though, is that if someone or something (dum, dum, dum! ...ok that was dumb, so to speak) removes something and we find out about it say, a week later, we're going to have to wade through hundreds of his posts to find out where it happened. Do you understand what I mean?

Though yes, I do agree it's sort of dumb to argue... that's why I'm trying to reason :D

Grand Canyon

Hi, I spent 5 hours getting the images perfect and beautiful on the grand Canyon. They were perfect. On your edit summary, you wrote cleaned up, but it looks like you made it dirty. All the perfect images are smaller and in disarray, some don't macth their sections and some are too small. Also, the great panaramic shot is now a tiny pice of junk dislocated in the upper right hand corner. I think you had good intentions, and thanks for trying to make it better, but i'm going to revert back to the version where everything was perfect. Tobyk777 00:59, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

Suggestions

Hey, I'm not sure if you're an administrator or not, but either way, you seem to know what you're doing. As such, I have a bit of a question. There are two things I would like to suggest for all people on the "Wikiproject Macintosh team" to have, one being more realistic, the other being nice to have and very helpful. The first, and more realistic of the two, is Mactracker. You've probably heard of it, might even have it. http://www.mactracker.ca/ In case you don't know what it is, it basically has detailed information on every Mac ever made (not Apple IIs and the like, but every Macintosh), as well as some information on OSes, displays, printers, etc. It's an incredibly useful tool.

Also, Andy Hertzfeld's "Revolution in The Valley" is incredibly informative, and a fun read, though it does cost $25 US. Just some suggestions. It's 2:00 in the morning so if this is a ridiculously stupid idea, blame it on the time ^_^

Could you give some examples of what you mean by incorrect information? I mean, I've found a few mistakes, but not many. Know what really tickled me about the latest version of MacTracker? I've been using it for about five years... and I recently (well a few months ago) added to the Mac OS 9 article.. I download the new version of Mactracker, look at their info on OS 9... and there's stuff in it that I wrote on Wikipedia! How weird is that? It was quite a shock to me, I mean, since it's like.. an actual program, and I've been using it since like 2000. Admittedly, I had hacked it up a bit and added/changed some information back when it was at version 2.x on OS 9 with ResEdit.. but this is different :P

Isn't Revolution in The Valley awesome? I mean.. I know it's kind of sad that I read it, but I thought a lot of it was hilarious. How about Jobs' take on the next 3M machine? :P Or his asking whether or not the guy would urinate on his desk ^_^

Actually I really don't like the man, but those are some pretty funny stories. Incidentally, I forgot that they're actually online, so that would be a lot more feasible for the "mac team" to get "ahold" of. "Quotations" are fun. And overused.

Erm.. anyway.. yeah I can't remember what I was going to say -.-

Eh.. oh yeah. Sorry to double-post, but I remembered what I wanted to say >_<

I think it would be really interesting (and in a way, important) to talk about Apple's struggle with keeping costs of the original Mac down (as I'm sure you'll remember this is found in RITV). Their eventually being forced to upgrade to 128KB of RAM, 64KB ROM, and perhaps mention that they sort of cheated a wee bit by using the sole Fat Mac (512KB) in existence at their unveiling. I wouldn't personally really know how to implement it (or I probably would, but I hate reading huge structures of text like that and then trying to figure out how to integrate it).

Any thoughts?

P.S.. check my edits on Burrell Smith's page... I'm not sure if they're Wikipedia-legal or not >_>

Adrienne Clarkson

Hi, thanks for doing that work on the Adrienne Clarkson article. The only problem really is that the Awards section became melded so that it wasn't clear which awards were won and which she was nominated for(I put it back the way it was). Also, I had the references sectionalized so that they would't become mixed up (I will sort them out later - the page is really a work in process) - Clarkson is an interesting figure and I planned on making her page my Christmas project, but haven't had as much time as I would like Dowew 19:54, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

Merit badge article review

Hi. As I've noticed you provide lots of balanced constructive feedback on FACs, I was wondering if you could help me out. I have this article, Merit badge types (BSA) that went threw a peer review and then a FAC, but I withdrew it because it had little support. I've fixed all the objections except the bulleted lists, which most people didn't like. I'm having a real problem with this as the lists are examples and I'm having trouble making these good prose. There are 3 sets of lists, unaltered, in the "Errors vs Variations" section. In the "Examples of merit badge changes" section, you see what was a bulleted list is now unbulleted, a little more 'prosy', but seems to come off like an unbulleted list. If you could help with this, I'd greatly appreciate it. I don't want to resubmit it as a FAC until it's really good and I'm fairly sure it'll get a lot of support. Any help would be appreciated. I can't get the colors to work the way I'd link, so I'll present you with the options; I want a second opinion.

1. Leave the portal as is with the edit links barely visible;
2. Go to another bar color, such as reverting to the first color; or
3. This may not even work, but we could try changing the text color of the whole portal (say, to white) and then, if needed, change the background color, although white best fits Apple.

Yeah expanding the early life section is a good idea. More references would be good, few references will be used as an objection at FAC otherwise. Also, the Refs section should be a numbered list instead of bulleted because its footnotes. A picture for the 'In New Netherland' section would be a nice addition as well. Unfortunately when using the same reference multiple times with Wikipedia:Footnote numbering the references just confuses everything unless you manually control the numbering, which then gets all messed up if a reference is added. — Laura Scudder ☎ 22:25, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

I've tried out using {{Hnote}} instead, which avoids the numbering issue entirely. I'll look around for an appropriate illustration to add to In New Netherland. Unfortunately, I've checked my sources and I think I might've exhausted all the early life information that's not total speculation or simply background on the Netherlands at the time. Thanks. I've got a question for you, a bit off-topic, and pretty random. But, I've been finding people using "MiB" instead of "MB" more and more often when it comes to 1K=1024 bytes. I suppose I'm probably the only one, but this personally, for whatever reason, infuriates me. Does it bother you? I mean, what the heck! A graphics card with 256MiB GDDR1 RAM? There's so much wrong with that. A computer shipping with 1GiB RAM? WTF?

I'm just wondering if that bothers you at all. I've no real idea why it bugs me, but it practically sends me off the edge. Maybe because it just seems so ignorant... it's made to clear up something that most people reading these articles understand, and if they don't understand, it won't affect them anyway... just confuse them more. "Huh? What the hell's a MiB?" That was my reaction when I first saw it >_<

Which macs do I have?

At the moment I'm surrounded by: PowerBook G4 12", PowerBook 3400, PowerBook 180c, PowerBook 160, PowerBook G3 Lombard, and a G4 Dual 1.25GHZ.

I do have other Macs like a Wallstreet G3 pictureframe, a beige G3 and a black 5500 though. There's a 7220, but it's disassembled.

Sorry for not replying to your messages; it couldnt be helped. I'm still unable to converse over the net. Apart from my computer system crashing (piece of crap), i have exams coming up in two weeks. These exams will have a very huge impact on my averages (and if they are below 85%, I wont be able to get into the university program I applying for). Therefore, i will be away until about February. I use firefox and sometimes ie and on both of them your user page comes up poorly formatted with the left section overlapping the right. I was going to work on fixing it for you but then it occured to me that it might not even be a problem on your browser. Customer Service wikification

Re the Wikification tag that you added to the Customer Service article. I've been mindful of this wikification guidleine: "Wikified articles link significant words to the corresponding article, provided that the corresponding article contains information that will help the reader to understand the original article". The original article had dozens of internal links that just made it harder to read. I would like to wikify more carefully. At this point, I have not read any article that, if linked to, would "help the reader understand the original article". If you've encountered any, please wikify accordingly.   • Well, I'm not sure how long production continued, since I wasn't there. The imsai.net people should know more precisely, since they were in production (I was in engineering.) I don't have an IMSAI 8080. See, IMSAI was my first job out of college, and when I found out I was being laid off, I made the stupid mistake of returning the machine I had at home before I got my final paycheck, which was short a couple of thousand dollars. I was one of the more trivial victims of Bill Millard's greedy and selfish business practices. I don't have any photos of the things, though. One of these days I need to get just a front panel -- I don't need the actual computer.
  • Oooh. I just found this on imsai.net: According to a July 2002 e-mail from the IMSAI 8080 creator Joe Killian, I remember passing the 17,000 mark. I believe it never went past 20,000 [between December of 1975 and September 1979]. since the talk page of WP:MAC has yielded unsatishfying results as of late, I'm asking you directly: I'm pondering the merge of all Macintosh II articles into one, since they're all pretty short and we have Macintosh II series anyway. Did you even look at the picture? I can assure you that I did not change the existing image to a smaller size. It is, in fact, larger and more current. I was just there 5 days ago so I don't appreciate the condescending tone of your comment. Also, it should be noted that this is the first page I have ever edited, as I have just become a member less than an hour ago so the sample image was a minor mistake that you are more than capable of fixing. I'd appreciate it if you actually take a look at the image I am going to upload again and realize that the picture is larger and of better quality.

Hurricane John's FAC

I would urge you to reconsider your comment on Hurricane John's FAC. You will see if you read the article that, unlike many other hurricanes with articles, John did not really cause any effects on land at all and is notable instead for holding a few records. Hi, this is LordOfer. I saw what you did on the Bonkheads entry & it's great. I hope you're a bonkheads fan yourself. You probebly noticed that I emphasized the fact that the game in available for download. The reason for this is that this information is generally unknown. I think Home of the Underdogs is the only place you can get it, and it's very hard to find it (try finding it on google). I was very pleased when I found out that the game is downloadable some time ago (cause I had a very big nostalgia for it), and that's why I wanted to draw the reader's attention to the fact that he can download it. Why did you delete that comment? Is that a copyright issue?

Abandonware

Hello! The reason I removed the two links were that the sites contain material which are still under copyright and not licenced/released as freeware by the copyright owners. As such, distributing those files are illegal. Wikipedia:External links#Occasionally acceptable links asks not to link to pages which violate someone else's copyrights. Yes, I've read the sites' disclaimers. The problem is they don't reduce the illegality of the sites. Mac Hut says their downloads are only meant as backup copies for people who already own a copy. This good intention does not legalize an illegal activity.

Dosgamezone's legal disclaimer is fine until "..or thier development has been discontinued by their developers and/or are no longer available for sale." Which means software protected by copyright. Promising to take the downloads down when contacted still does not make it legal.

I'm not quite sure what is the confusion here. So I probably am not able to give a satisfying answer. :-) For instance the Claris software that are featured on Mac Hut, now owned by Apple, if I'm correct, were released as commercial products and have not been released as freeware since those old versions have turned obsolete. This software usually has a licence that forbids copying, unauthorized redistribution etc.. I couldn't find any info about them being released as freeware.

Impressively it seems that a company called Sun Remarketing is still selling some legacy Apple software including MacPaint, although I can't seem to access their web page, maybe they are out of business (you wouldn't happen to have info on them?). Hopefully not, that's quite cool. :-)

Hello once again,

first, the fact that the term "abandonware" has no legal meaning - ie. defining something abandonware does not free it from copyright - is an argument against placing those links in the article, since (a) linking to sites which violate copyrights is forbidden in Wikipedia:External links and (b) the link section is not for abandonware sites but sites which feature commercial software freed by copyright owners.

I hope I was clear enough this time.

Had a look at the top. If I may be so bold, you might consider using a comma after a prepositional/adverbial start to a sentence (although not always necessary). E.g., "After the company was established, the market ...". There's a slight tendency to word events as "began/started to [pursue an idea ...]". Sometimes OK, but occurs too often.
