Excessive citations

edit

Q936 How have you "fixed the issue"? You have sentences with two, three, four, and even five citations. You do not need five citations for a birthdate or for the names of her siblings. At most 2 are appropriate, and not for every sentence. Yoninah (talk) 17:39, 20 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Instead of citing the Hebrew Wikipedia, you should link the subject name to the Hebrew page. See Help:Interwikimedia links. Yoninah (talk) 17:42, 20 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

There are no Hebrew pages for the persons mentioned in the article and as such, it is highly important to cite reliable sources (for future use)! Some of them are legendary in the history of Eretz Yisrael.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Q936 (talkcontribs)

I have added Interlanguage links for the Hebrew pages. There are still too many citations for each fact. I prefer not to get into an edit war, but you cannot remove the tag without resolving the issue. Yoninah (talk) 19:26, 20 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Q936: I have restored the excessive citations tag. The article has far too many citations on some of the sentences. Five is too many. There are other ways to preserve the sources: See also, bibliography etc. Do not restore the tag without fixing the article, or you could possibly end up blocked from editing under WP:3RR. Since you have already restored the tag after being warned, consider this is your final warning-- restoring the tag again will get reported to 3RR.104.163.147.121 (talk) 03:52, 21 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Just for clarity: I removed the tag because I didn't agree with it being excessive citations! I still disagree with you though I am (and will) obey the "rules". I also disagree with the way you linked 'Aharon Eisenberg' to the Hebrew page... But whatever... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Q936 (talkcontribs) 16:33, 21 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Q936! Most of the rules on Wikipedia are decided by consensus. The article itself looks like a good start, but it would be much more interesting to talk about her work and life, rather than her family. Do you have more information about her career? :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:18, 21 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Q936 I agree with Megalibrarygirl I don't speak Hebrew, but even with a translation program one can glean that she was born in route to Israel, was one of the first teachers there and helped found Tel Aviv. Rules on different language Wikipedia are different. On English WP, notability cannot be inherited, the person must be notable in their own right. The weight of the article should be about that person and their accomplishments. Family ties are certainly important, but the bulk of the article should be about her and her accomplishments. As it stands, the section on her family is more extensive than the information about her. Perhaps, rather than citing so many sources for one sentence, you can expand on the material in those sources so that the article gives more detail about her and the sourcing is spread throughout the article? Something more along the lines of this, but I do not know if this is a reliable source. I am glad to help if I can, but will follow your lead. SusunW (talk) 15:37, 23 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
@SusunW: yes, that is a reliable source, about the founders of cities in Israel. Yoninah (talk) 17:58, 24 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Yoninah, I'll give it a few more days and then if Q936 has not expanded the text, I will see what I can do with the article. SusunW (talk) 18:03, 24 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Yoninah, @SusunW and Megalibrarygirl: The article is a concise English translation of an existing Hebrew page. It ain't complete nor comprehensive one. Beside the preamble, there is a Family section. Regardless of what you wrote above, this Family section (i.e. Eisenberg family) is an integrated part and no less important than the person itself (I believe Yoninah will agree on that). It is true that we should add another section about her life and work. Its an ongoing process and hopefully I will complete it within few weeks.Q936 (talk)

@Q936: I get that it's part of a translation. What we're trying to say is that excessive details about people's family members isn't a normal part of a Wikipedia article. Close family, or notable family may be mentioned, but Wikipedia isn't a genealogy project. It's an encyclopedia and in that capacity, we need to focus on the subject and her career, life, etc, not her ancestry. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:56, 25 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Yoninah, @SusunW and Megalibrarygirl: I have changed the article completely (in the spirit of the Hebrew one). The article on Yehudit Harari is now thoroughly written, highly comprehensive and full of details and fact about her life, work, contribution, and legacy. The length of the article reflects the importance of it being part of WikiProject Women in Red, WikiProject Biography, Jewish Women, Women's History and WikiProject Israel. @Yoninah: In several places, where no English Wiki pages exist, I linked to the Hebrew ones. The reason is due to the importancy of the persons, places involved - part of the history and "Moreshet". I will appreciate if you could please not remove/change it without consulting me. Hopefully, in due time, I will create English pages for them. Happy to collaborate with you all ! Thanks! Q936 (talk)

Q936 Congratulations! Much more balanced article now. I added a few categories, just so she wouldn't have none. Interesting that she worked in disability as well. I recently wrote an article about a Canadian/Israeli, Betty Dubiner, who was very involved in aid and rights of disabled Israelis. SusunW (talk) 23:12, 7 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks SusunW, I will have a look at it Q936 (talk)
Wow, Q936 I'm really impressed. Nice work and very interesting! :) Looking forward to your further contributions here on Wikipedia! Megalibrarygirl (talk) 17:57, 9 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

MOS:PUNCTFOOT

edit

Please put the punctuation (comma, period, etc.) before the citation, not after. Thank you, Yoninah (talk) 23:03, 7 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Another note on style: All those quotes in the body of the article should not be in italics, but regular quotes. If they are too long, make them blockquotes. Yoninah (talk) 23:07, 7 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Yoninah, I will fix it soon. Q936 (talk)
I also started formatting the references using Help:Sfn. There are too many repetitions for me to fix now. I also put your notes about the various movements into a notelist. These need citations. Yoninah (talk) 23:37, 7 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Yoninah! I will get back to it. BTW, You changed the section "Further publications" into "Further reading". The thing is that these list of books are her own work and not "further reading" about her. Q936 (talk) 23:45, 7 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
OK. So it should be subheaded "Bibliography" and moved back into the article. I'll do that now. Yoninah (talk) 23:47, 7 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Q936: Usually the Bibliography section includes both books and articles. If there are too many of either, we write "Selected bibliography" and list the main ones. I think you should have a section here for her books, too. Yoninah (talk) 23:57, 7 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
