Cuban Jews
editI've added him to Category:Cuban Jews on the basis of his statement in this interview that his grandfather was Jewish. Our "X Jews" categories generally include people of Jewish ancestry even if they don't practice the religion (either because they converted to another religion or simply because they're nonreligious) and even if they're not halakhically Jewish (which he presumably isn't if his father's father was Jewish but his mother's mother wasn't). I have not placed him in Category:Converts to Roman Catholicism from Judaism because that category is really for people who converted from practicing Judaism as a religion to practicing Roman Catholicism, not for previously unreligious people of Jewish ancestry who become RC as an adult. +Angr 16:33, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
- I won't remove it; but would like to hear other's opinions. I hardly think because one grandparent was Jewish (and not from his mother's side) that he should be labeled as a "Cuban Jew". If one of his grandparents was a muslim, would he be a muslim? Or if a grandparent was black would he be black too? Callelinea (talk) 17:23, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
- Leave it alone. You know how Jews like to claim people and won't back down. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.207.4.91 (talk) 12:44, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
- Interesting interview William says his jewish grandfather was separated from the rest of his family for not marrying a jewish woman. Anywayz as an ethnicity he's only 1/4 Jewish then.--Anen87 (talk) 01:41, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Name
editI'm sure the name is misspelled, it should be Gutierrez. Everywhere else, including Levy's website, has the order reversed, William Levy Gutierrez. —Preceding unsigned comment added by James Galloway (talk • contribs) 14:19, 9 September 2010 (UTC) It's GUTIÉRREZ, with an acute accent on the first E. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.70.202.179 (talk) 13:19, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
Birth name
editIf Levy is his mother's surname, then Gutierrez should be his father's surname and therefor should be William Gutierrez Levy, in that order, on his birth certificate(birth name). I'm confused?.... --76.213.252.18 (talk) 22:18, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
Anyone have information about his biological parents and grandparents? With his mother having the same surname as his romantic partner it does sound a tad confusing. Mylittlezach (talk) 04:26, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
- Actually when he was born his bio parents weren't together. I believe that's why hes got his mother's name not the dad's. Ms Levy was a single mother.--76.213.224.83 (talk) 05:03, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
Why Cuban-American?
editThe article describes Levy as being Cuban-American but gives no reference for him ever having obtained US citizenship. Merely living in the US doesn't make you a hyphenated American. I think the article should describe him simply as Cuban. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.119.149.78 (talk) 04:14, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
Someone changed it back to Cuban-American and I just changed it back to Cuban. If you're are going to call him Cuban-American you need to cite a source that he has American citizenship. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.119.149.78 (talk) 05:04, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
Disposition of the legal case with the minor female
editBy now it should have been decided. 198.255.198.157 (talk) 14:55, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
