Olympic medals

edit

Hello! I am editing the Schuylkill Navy page and have added a short section on Vesper - please feel free to contribute and edit!Eddie.oneill1213 (talk) 17:01, 10 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

According to yesterday's Boston Globe ("Harvard's 1968 crew still shares a unique bond", John Powers), Vesper Boat Club won the 1964 US heavyweight-8 trials (beating Harvard College whose 1968 crew the newspaper article features) and the 1964 Olympic gold medal.

According to our article Rowing at the 1900 Summer Olympics, Vesper Boat Club representing the US won the 1900 Olympic gold medal.

Are these reports true? They imply that some coverage is missing here and (unless VBC boats included nonmembers) that more VBC members have won gold medals.

College rowing (United States)#Olympic Medals won by US Collegiate Boats implies that the US was represented by non-collegiate clubs prior to 1920 (as many as four times 1900 to 1912) and in 1964.

All these notes concern men's heavyweight-8. --P64 (talk) 17:04, 10 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
