Article Name

VP's actual name is Jodie Rivera, which she has not disclosed in her videos, but which she has used in press and recording. Especially since she is now slated to appear in a television series, under her actual name, propose move to Jodie Rivera, making "VenetianPrincess" a redirect to there. 71.127.7.184 (talk) 14:49, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Removal of her real name

I see that some users don't want her personal name used in the article. While the relevant policy says "When the name of a private individual has not been widely disseminated or has been intentionally concealed (such as in certain court cases), it is often preferable to omit it, especially when doing so does not result in a significant loss of context", I have a hard time justifying the removal of her name when it is readily published in newspapers and other sources. Plus, if she is using it in press releases to drum up publicity, it is harder to argue that it should thus be removed from her article. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 01:39, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

I removed it because I was contacted by her as she asked me to remove it. Jodie Rivera is not her actual name, however she is mostly known by the alias "VenetianPrincess" so I deemed that the most appropriate title for the article. -- Journalist23 (talk) 10:51, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

I respectfully disagree with that. If her name was a secret, it would be a different case altogether but it is not. Anyone using Google can find it in no time, so I'm afraid I fail to see any reason not to include it here. Yes, she is more known as Venetian Princess but virtually every article on somebody known under an alias include their real name. If there's any reason why that standard procedure should not be followed here, I'd like to see it outlined. I'll wait untill tomorrow for comments, then add the name. Sorry, changing my mind here. I just found that she has even released a cd under her own name [1], which definitely is enough to make it clear that here name is not a secret nor even intended to be. Lack of sources

Agree. One of the three references that I checked did not confirm statement made (by Jay Leno). Another had been broken for months. Another was being used in a slightly misleading way: To claim that she was one of the first to do YouTube revenue sharing, whereas the reference only says that she is in a "new" program. (Whatever that means.) I'm sure some of these statements are justified, but there needs to be more care about using reliable, independent sources, see WP:SOURCES. Real name

It seems abundantly clear she is making little attempt to hide the fact she also goes by "Jodie Rivera". Her bio under VP here is the same as her bio as JR here. Add an audio clip?

Could we maybe add an audio recording to the article? I notice that some of her videos on YouTube (e.g. the Womanizer parody - which she wrote, so has full control of) give permission to reuse with attribution. Obviously this is not the same as an explicit declaration of CC-BY-3.0 or similar, but I would think she would likely grant such a licence if asked. Advertisement tag

First, the article has uncited, peacock WP:PEACOCK and other language that's unsuited to an encyclopedia: "her close family and friends call her Amy", "VenetianPrincess's resemblance to actress Angelina Jolie is a recurring topic in her video comments", "VP's version spoke for the masses".

Second, the references almost all either do not confirm article statements, are broken, or are considered unreliable by Wikipedia. Several of the references do not even remotely support what the article says. (7, 8, 9) [2]. One reference is Venetian Princess' own YouTube page, the article information is closely followed by "BUSINESS/PRESS INQUIRES CONTACT: Management@VPrincess.com". I.e., not a reliable reference. Reference [3] is "page not found". This is another dead link: . IMDB is not considered a reliable reference for personal accomplishments.

In sum, the article references that work are mostly written by VenetianPrincess or people who represent her. The article is mostly a list of promotional accomplishments without valid references. The references that there are -- and one that was deleted a couple weeks ago -- misrepresent her accomplishments. It is, therefore, an extended advertisement. In passing, it's peculiar to note that for someone who is purported to be a top Internet draw, that the traffic to this Wikipedia article is more similar to singing acts and novels from 40 years ago, than to current rock acts, movies or TV shows. Check [4]. It would be appreciated if someone impartial could evaluate the weaknesses and strengths of this article, since it may be inflating the popularity of the subject. I agree that the article seems to be thrown together by VenetianPrincess fans and is rather biased. However, her numbers on YouTube and frequent press appearances do prove her to be a top internet draw. New media personalities tend to receive lesser hits on WikiPedia than tradition media personalities. This should be no surprise, because their popularity was born on the internet so their viewership already has a readily available source of information on the persons. It seems from the user above's edits that he/she either has a personal grudge against "VenetianPrincess," or is not accustomed to the ways of new media, and it's recent success matching traditional media's. In this article, many facts are backed up by reliable sources. For instance, she was one of the first in the group invited into the YouTube Revenue Share program. It states that in the two Boston articles, and they are dated back at the initial stages of the program, just as the wiki article states. One doesn't have to like or admire her, the fact that "She is the #1 most subscribed female on YouTube" (and has been for many months) puts her well within notability criteria. (If I was going to pick "most useless articles"? I'd go for mythical towns in computer games that are now rarely played, and may soon be effectively unplayable due to lack of workable compatible computers.
