2008 Coaster edit

In a recent question and answer session, this question was asked: "in the future is there going to be any more rides like Air in Alton Towers?" The response was: "With regards to the future, Air is a first class ride and something similar would fit in nicely at Thorpe Park but there are also numerous other coaster concepts to look at."

The rumours of this coaster being a flyer are uncomfirmed and the above official response suggests that it will not be, for these reasons I have removed the section suggesting the 2008 coaster will be a B&M Flyer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jackqu7 (talkcontribs) Removed section about some blokes spam plans. Regarding additions of user: 82.43.154.64 on 01/04/2007. Is this information confirmed anywhere else and should this be removed? Rexcentum 18:55, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Some rides edit

Is it true that a miniture golf course and bumper cars were removed to make way for the new rides in Lost City? (Just that they aren't mentioned on the timeline) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chocology (talkcontribs)

The dodgems were called "Dare Devil Drivers" and were situated in a domed tent-like building where Zodiac now stands. Their final season in the park was 2000.193.35.248.7 (talk) 11:51, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

What years was "Treasure Island" ride open? This was a train ride to an island with pillocks acting out set scenes at various points on the Island? There was a Saliors Inn and a almost life size Galleon on the Island. I worked on it (yes I was one of the pillocks) in 1983-4. Anyone know?Serpren (talk) 08:18, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

From the research I have conducted for my website Treasure Island Railway appears to have operated from 1983 -1993. I am slightly unsure of the opening year but its last operating season was definitely in 1993.Memoriesofthorpepark (talk) 09:01, 10 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Some rides edit

The following removed because it is unconfirmed.

    • A new drop tower will be placed on the current site of Amity Games. The drop tower is likely to be an Intamin gyro/mega drop (as these models have a very high capacity). Or, like Detonator, a Fabri drop tower with a higher capacity. The ride is likely to be no higher than roughly 130ft. Quicksilver shop located in Amity has already been re-themed for the new drop tower, with the name 'Amity shop and drop'. The reason for building another drop tower is due to Detonator's success, but as Detonator has a low capacity and as park numbers increase, the park thought it would be a good idea to introduce a second drop tower to ease queue times.

Question edit

Doeas anyone know Which year was Phantom Phantasia renamed The Wicked Witches Haunt?

1994

Excellent Thanks! (a;lso any idea why the name was changed? user:Guru Larry

Is the addition of the breakdance confirmed anywhere? Also why use Rodeo from CwoA because they removed the ride there as it was so difficult and expensive to maintain?

Very little. Rodeo has been sold from the Tussauds group.

Also can anyone remember the name of the "ride" or area that had the wacky bicycles that had steering wheels and steered weird? (it was where the old crocks cars moved to for a while on the hill) user:Guru Larry

Project Hawk edit

User 82.44.225.61 is repeatedly replacing the same phrase:

Project 'Hawk' is not the project name for this, as the name Project 'Hawk' was made up by Phill Caudell.

Not only that, but in bold.

82.44.225.61, before you 'undo' another revision without a word of explanation, please explain here why you think this is so relevant - I'm not the only user that has removed this phrasing.

It seems to me that you are trying to force-add a phrase that makes little sense, and is pointless. You might as well say "Project 'La La' is not the name for this..." - there are 1001 things that aren't the name for this.

Please, either reword it to make sense, or let it be removed. Repeated replacement without justification could be seen as vandalism. TheIslander 20:09, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

How is Thorpe Park the same area size as Alton Towers, and larger than Blackpool Pleasure Beach?

New future developments edit

Hello, I just added some major information I recieved today from one of my manangers, what is there is 99% or 100% happening unless I get told different, I will inform you. I can't reveal much about my source but I work at TP and well we are preparing for 2008 season straight away. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.40.188.132 (talk) 22:00, August 20, 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but word of mouth is not a good enough reference for Wikipedia. Unless you can cite a decent, reliable reference within 24 hours, I'll remove your contributions again (assuming of course that they're not removed beforehand by another editor). Please see WP:V. Thank you, TheIslander 22:03, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry but the information, you islander put on the tp wiki, where did you get your information from, how are we sure that your'es isn't word of mouth too. At leasts im putting valuable information on.

You said "At this time it is unknown what will be the new ride or attraction for 2008. Rumours are that a possible second Detonator tower will be installed next to the original tower to increase throughput. A Disko ride is also being looked into as another possibility. There are also unconfirmed reports that Thorpe Park may get one of Alton Tower's thrill rides for the 2008 season, however this has been seen to be unlikely. The Tussauds brand will also be dropped by the end of the 2008 season in favour of the Merlin Entertainmets brand". What you said, Islander are rumours too and what makes your information more important than mine.

It talks of educational talks but whose to say that what you say aren't rumours too, you obviously think what you say is better than my info and you even admitted about the second tower are rumours too.

And you say that what I say is not good enough for Wiki, well neither is yours when you talk of rumours too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.40.188.132 (talk) 12:21, 21 August 2007

If instead of devising insults you took a look at the edit history, you'd see that I haven't added any of my own information, merely restored it to the condition it was in before you contributed. TheIslander 17:00, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Future Developments edit

Further to my comments above, I've noticed that actually the entire 'Future Developments' section is completely, 100% unsourced. Seems like complete speculation to me. Per WP:CBALL, I'll remove the lot in 24 hours if nothing turns up. After that, feel free to replace with appropriate citations. TheIslander 20:34, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Referencing edit

This article is full of opinion and original research. I think it would be a good idea for any regular editors to list their sources for the facts in the article, else a lot of it will end up being deleted. Attendence figures edit

Some of the theme park articles on Wikipedia state the annual attendence figures. As with any tourist attraction it's success is largely based on its popularity. Is this information available for Thorpe Park. If it is, then it should be included in the main page.

Edit: Don't worry. I found them myself. According to TEA / ERA Atraction Attendence 2007, Thorpe Park is the second most popular pay at the door (rather then pay per ride) theme park in the UK with 1.7 million guests in 2007. Alton Towers (No Surprise) was first with 2.4 million and Legoland windsor was in third place just behind Thorpe. The fact that this is the second most popular theme park in the country perhaps should be mentioned as it may be important to its readers.

New ride for 2009 edit

If you look at the 2008 map of Thorpe Park ([1]) it shows a ride being constructed in the bottom left corner saying 'NEW COASTER COMING 2009'. This is another big coaster and will have a sawmill theme. I have also heard that it has an interesting part to its track. For Discussion / For Inclusion? edit

Regarding Angry Birds 4D: I notice you do not list any retired attractions in the article. The attraction which proceeded Angry Birds, Pirates 4-D was something of a seminal attraction, and opened your 4D cinema. Much of the technology therein was custom developed for Thorpe. By the way, the Angry Birds film's manufacturer is listed as Simworx. Are they actually the manufacturer, or is it SimEx-Iwerks, or Rovio Entertainment Ltd?

Regarding Fright Nights: The WP article Fright Nights credits this event to Warner Bros Movie World since 2006. There was no mention of Thorpe (began 2002) until I added it today. FYI, the earliest use of the term seems to be Six Flags AstroWorld, 1986-1992. See the Fright Fest article. Oddjob84 (talk) 12:56, 15 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Britain's First Theme Park edit

Recent changes have tried to assert that Thorpe Park was Britain's first theme park and cited an article in US magazine Variety to back up this claim. Thorpe Park opened in 1979 but was not a theme park when opened. It was always planned and developed as an outdoor activity park with water sports etc. There were no permanent structures on the site other than the dome, model world and some small temporary fairground rides (which were pay-per-ride), it was just a wide open grassland. So this isn't just my opinion of whether the park was 'themed' or not.

The theme park started to develop later in 1982 and the park had to apply for change of use because its original planning permission was on the basis of it only being an outdoor activity park. This is when the park format also changed to pay-once for the whole park attractions and had its first permanent rides. The articles Ive cited state this clearly and were from local reports made at the time of the park's initial development and subsequent change into a theme park, which are more reliable and clear.

Thorpe Park later tried to claim that it was Britain's first theme park as a tagline, because it had originally opened a year earlier than Alton Towers' theme park, but this was just advertising. You may as well say Blackgang Chine was Britain's first theme park in that case, because it opened in the 1800s, but it didn't develop into a theme park until the 80s.--Detachio (talk) 11:46, 8 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hyperlinks are a bit strange edit

On the hyperlink about the ghost train, both the person's name and the words 'Ghost Train' both have separate hyperlinks, even though the person's name and the words 'Ghost Train' make up the full name of the ride.

There should be just 1 hyperlink for the full name of the ride. Xboxsponge15 (talk) 09:35, 11 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
