Length edit

This article is much, much too long. If we really need all that information on characters, can we put it on a seperate page? 82.43.177.240 16:08, 6 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dyson edit

AFAIK, Jeremy Dyson is only a writer. the main parts are only 3 actors. -- Tarquin 12:52 Jan 1, 2003 (UTC) (are you local?) ;-)

My mistake, you're quite right of course. Too much booze last night has raddled my thinking. user:sjc

The article was slightly unclear about the writing contribs - at least for the 2nd season (the only DVD my local blockbuster has) the three leads are also writers (per both the credits and the rather dull "making off" featurette). I amended the article to properly reflect this. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 04:01, 20 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Catchphrases edit

was it a cheese dream? -- t, saving the catchphrases for the talk page

It was a local aberration for local people... user:sjc

  • there was a complaint to the BBC (or whichever regulator) about the slogan on the side of the Legz Akimbo van.
  • What was the slogan? AIDS in a van? Oh no wait, that's what the priest calls it! --Kilo-Lima 14:37, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
  • "Put yourself into a child" Jono 18:39, 3 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • there was also a complaint about the character who in 2 episodes makes an ass of himself talking to disabled people.

in both cases the regulator felt the complaint was unjustified

Format edit

Quote: some of the visual gags might be haard to spot in letterbox format

Isn't the whole point about the term "letterbox format" that when this format is used none of the picture is lost -- it's just that you get a black area at the top and bottom of your screen when viewing wide-screen material on an ordinary set (i.e. the picture is complete, though letterbox-shaped).

I think they meant it's more difficult to spot the gags in letterbox because the picture is reduced somewhat. user:Brodo

Letterboxing is done to prevent loss of any of the original image. The loss of site gags would occur not when the show is letterboxed, but rather when it is panned and scanned - a process in which the sides are chopped off and the image stretched to reach the top of the screen, for television broadcast.

Not if you've got a small television screen, i.e., like most people.

Graffiti edit

Somebody's stencilled "Are you local?" and "You'll Never Leave" on the road signs on the outskirts of Cowling. It seems somehow appropriate.

Briss edit

Just putting a theory here regarding Hilary Briss', the butcher, "special stuff". From his name Briss -> Bris -> Bris Milah, which is a Jewish circumcision ceremony. And "foreskin" does kind of rhyme with "drawstring".

Does this seem likely to be the case and worth putting in the article? (I'm new to Wikipedia, and not sure whether conjecture should be put in) :) --Condiment 22:56, 1 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I suppose it is conjecture, and should stay out, but it's the closest explination I've heard! Well Done indeed! (But why would it make yer nose bleed?)--Crestville 13:30, 2 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm afraid it's completely conjecture. The point about the special stuff is that it is conjectural: even the writers freely admit they don't know, although they go so far as to say that it's 'the worst thing you can imagine.' garik 14:08, 11 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup tag edit

I've removed this tag because I think the article's now reasonably OK. Obviously it may take some perfecting, but to quote somebody or other: you don't complete a piece of work, you abandon it.

What do other people think about its current standard? garik 14:05, 11 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

IMDB link edit

I fixwd the IMDB lik because it was pointing to Little Britain for some reason

Probable mistake after a copy-and-paste move. IolakanaT 18:57, 28 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Requested move edit

Doesn't anybody else think that this page ought to be moved to the page entitled 'The League of Gentlemen', and the page currently called 'The League of Gentlemen' be turned into 'The League of Gentlemen (disambiguation)'? Since it is the most detailed of the all The League of Gentlemen articles, and the most common usage of the name nowadays, shouldn't it be moved to the more prominent page without '(comedy)' at the end? —ERT 15:20, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Probally--Josquius 12:27, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Page moved, per request. Cheers. -GTBacchus(talk) 10:57, 20 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Red Bag edit

An interview with the creators verifies the fact that the different scenes in series 3 happen at the same time, but I don't know how to reference this link (or if it is necessary.) Any experts? Howboutpete 23:58, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Past and Future section edit

Does it seem strange to anybody else to have the first section of the article about the Past and Future, i.e. not concerning the focus of the article; the television programme? I suggest changing this to two different sections, one detailing the background, and another nearer the end talking about after the show. Preposterone 23/11/2008

Fourth series? edit

"The BBC has expressed interest in a fourth series, though the Radio Times has claimed that there is little chance of this" - I've added a "fact" tag to this: the page would definitely benefit from having a link to the source for this statement ~dom Kaos~ (talk) 13:22, 29 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Steve Pemberton talks about a very likely reunion-ish thing for their 20th anniversary of the League anyway in this video starting 9:30 minutes in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eZeQXma-Wc I understand that this is not talking about a 4th series, but still maybe worth mentioning — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.109.24.56 (talk) 00:12, 31 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Characters / Atmosphere edit

The subject matter between the two sections are very similar and in some cases duplicated. Also theres stuff in the atmosphere box I'd say belongs in the character box and vice versa. Anybody fancy taking on a bit of cleanup? Fraggle81 (talk) 15:54, 16 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
