– The film is likely the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. The only other article named "Suzume" (that's not related to the film) is about a song that only got 1.1k page views in the past month, making it unlikely to be more notable. A Google search of "Suzume" also shows results that mostly relate to the film. Harushiga (talk) 13:40, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose. Popularity is relevant, but only if sustained over a longer period. We don't see that here: the film only got released 6 months ago. And, even though the film is highly popular at the moment, there are still significant clickthroughs from the dab page to the articles about the bird and the song [1]. – Uanfala (talk) 16:34, 14 April 2023 (UTC)
- Weak oppose per Uanfala. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:15, 14 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose "Sparrow" seems to have all kinds of uses in Japanese entertainment, and this in GBooks doesn't register. In ictu oculi (talk) 19:10, 14 April 2023 (UTC)
- If you're referring to NGram viewer, it only provides results up through 2019 [2], so of course usage for a movie released in 2022 wouldn't register. PhotogenicScientist (talk) 14:43, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nom, it seems the film is the primary topic. BlackShadowG (talk) 12:58, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- Weak support: Users searching for Eurasian tree sparrow are unlikely to do so by searching for the transliteration of its Japanese name, and users searching for suzume are much more likely to be looking for something else specifically named suzume. Among those I think the movie is by far the most likely target, even if its popularity will fade over time. ChromeGames (talk · contribs) 18:45, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- Support as the film seems obviously the primary topic among the other pages bearing the exact wording 'Suzume'. Pageviews of Eurasian tree sparrow have actually been on the rise recently, in the lead-up to the film's english release [3] - I would guess some of the clickthroughs from the dab page these days noted by Uanfala are driven in part by curiosity of movie-seekers. We could always put a template:about at the top of the 'Suzume' page to the one for the sparrow.PhotogenicScientist (talk) 14:46, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- Also, pageviews for the song were pretty minimal in recent years, until around the time a movie bearing the same name was announced [4] PhotogenicScientist (talk) 14:46, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose recentism. A work whose title is a generic word for such a ubiquitous bird family cannot be assumed to hold long-term significance. Nardog (talk) 12:02, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
- In normal cases I would agree (I am reminded of the requested page move at Parasite), except that in this case, nobody in the English-speaking world calls the bird suzume, so I find it hard to argue that the title is a generic word. ChromeGames (talk · contribs) 17:32, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- Support: the bird is commonly called '(Eurasian) tree sparrow', not 'suzume'. The song is fairly old and not all that popular, and the dance 'suzume odori' doesn't even have its own article, but is only mentioned quickly in Japanese traditional dance. The film is recent, but it's made by a very successful director, so there seems little doubt that it will remain considerably more popular than the song, making it the primary topic. Slight Spolier
editSlight Spolier
Someone at some point in the movie, flys up into the sky
This was very similar to a scene from a 2013 anime movie ‘ Patema Inverted’ 146.200.7.104 (talk) 23:56, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
Japanese title listed as "Kanji"
editThe film title is listed as "Kanji", despite the film title only being 25% kanji.
I'm not sure how to replace it with "Japanese" without render issues, so someone more experienced doing so would be appreciated. 97.95.34.242 (talk) 12:45, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
- Done I added a "Japanese" option to the template and updated this article to use it. Jruderman (talk) 04:50, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
