  • Milbern advocated for her community to consider interdependence rather than independence, as she organized a mutual aid effort to help those whose medical needs were threatened by a lack of power during the blackouts starting October 26, 2019. She and other volunteers worked to ensure disabled people dependent on power to survive, such as for ventilators or refrigerating medications, had the information they needed, and helped transport or shelter some in locations with power.
