Hwangap vs Hwangab

edit

As the correct RR for 환갑 is "Hwangab" with a b, that's what this article should be called. Jpatokal (talk) 11:19, 13 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

The cross-wiki link from this page goes to "還暦" on the Japanese wikipedia, but this article is about a (very similar) Korean event. I don't know what to do (how to tag the page) in this case, so I am leaving this note on the talk page for someone else to sort it out, please. JoshuSasori (talk) 01:15, 14 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Kanreki

edit

Move this article to Kanreki, as the Japanese ceremony is more popular and more important.Hwfr (talk) 00:12, 30 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

I agree, this would appear to be a distortion of the tradition in East Asia overall but putting undue focus on the version celebrated in Korea.--Ubikwit 連絡 見学/迷惑 09:43, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

To be clear, there isn't some conspiracy where Koreans are trying to make this article primarily about Korea. It's just that nobody has added in information about the ceremony in Japan or China.

I object to the claim that the Japanese ceremony is somehow "more important" than the Korean version. That's not really objectively possible to prove; these things just exist and we should document them. We should possibly rename this page to account for its use in the Sinosphere. 211.43.120.242 (talk) 10:23, 27 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

HwangapSixtieth birthday in East Asia – Welcome suggestions; I'm not sure what best title for this is. The concept is relevant to the Sinosphere (afaik particularly China, Japan, and Korea; does it exist in Vietnam?), so I just proposed a generic English-language title. See Talk:East Asian coal briquettes#Requested move 8 September 2023 for a similar discussion along this vein.

I don't know much about the ceremony's varieties across Asia. Not sure how WP:COMMONNAME factors into this. Here's an ngram; the Chinese term is complicated by the fact that it overlaps with other terms, for example sexagenary cycle.

If we can't conclusively determine common name, think the Eng title I'm proposing steps on the fewest nationalist toes (see the talk post above this move req). 211.43.120.242 (talk) 10:34, 27 June 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. BilledMammal (talk) 16:09, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

This is the original poster. Actually I change my proposed target: "Sixtieth birthday in the Sinosphere". Idk if Vietnam explicitly shares the concept, but figure it doesn't hurt to hedge. 211.36.142.178 (talk) 08:12, 3 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
