Getting large

It may be desirable to split out Physiology of diving mammals (or Diving physiology of mammals) at some stage, but it would probably be worth polishing the current content up a bit first. · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 10:15, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Peter Southwood, I don't do physiology, I'm a population modeller - but I know there's any amount of papers on diving physiology in penguins in particular. Mostly paywalled, natch. If you can give me an idea what topics you are looking for, I could pull & send you a bunch? --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 16:30, 17 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
    • Elmidae, Strictly speaking I don't do physiology either, I am an engineer and a diving educationalist, but we chip in when and where we can if no-one else is doing what is needed, and this is interesting. Most useful would be review articles on the adaptations for diving of penguins, if such a thing is available, or I might be able to select from a list of titles. Right ho, I'll have a look. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 20:57, 17 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
Peter Southwood: Found a few articles that sound promising. In particular there's several interesting reviews by one P.J. Butler.

Available online at https://jeb.biologists.org/content/214/20/3325 Possibly useful.

  • Butler, P. J. (2000). Energetic costs of surface swimming and diving of birds. Physiological and Biochemical Zoology, 73(6), 699-705.
Can read abstract online, looks a bit limited. Try others first.

If these sound useful, I can email you the lot. Cheers --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 02:51, 18 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
It looks like I can access some of them online, so not much point in sending those. Give me a day or two to see what I can access myself. Cheers, · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 19:51, 18 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Elmidae:, The three below might be useful to email. The others I can read online. Cheers, · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 05:11, 19 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Pbsouthwood: Sure. I believe for that to work, you might have to drop me an email so that I have an address to send attachments to (can't attach anything to WP emails). --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 15:30, 19 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
