Detail discrepancies

The referenced [1] actually says 3-car sets, with service introduction between late 2011 & 2013. Suckindiesel (talk)

Yep but the Translink press release referenced suggests that there will be 6 car trains as well. A few months ago, the chief of rail services mentioned his dislike of 2 3car units joined together, so it'd make sense that he'd get his way in ordering some 6 car units. I'm reliably informed, by an inside source, that order is for 20 x 3-car, this figure is confirmed in the Railway Gazette article, ref #6. Nowhere do I see a mention of 4-car sets. The 4K is likely to be similar to the 3K in most respects, major difference will be MTU, as per IE22000, rather than MAN engines. Suckindiesel (talk) 22:15, 31 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

You may very well be right actually! The info that I have seen now states that the order is for 20 3 car trains plus a further 20 intermediate carriages. Whether these will be delivered at the same time remains to be seen. The article has now been updated to reflect this.Jimmy1109 (talk) 10:27, 6 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

That's interesting re additional intermediate cars, must try my informant again. Suckindiesel (talk) 16:17, 6 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
That's what I'm reading into the contract award document anyway, it's a bit unclear. You can have a look to see if you decipher it any differently! The latest gossip is that the Class 4000 will be near enough the same as the Class 3000, but with less spec. How could you get any lower spec?! Jimmy1109 (talk) 17:51, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well here we are in 2016 and they are indeed 6 car units. 86.181.243.128 (talk) 21:07, 24 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

No they aren't, they are all 3 car units but similarily to the Class 3000, they sometimes operate in a 2 x Class 3000 or 2 x Class 4000 formation. 217.42.126.30 (talk) 06:41, 5 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

DMU or DEMU?

edit

The page both describes them as "DMU" (with a reversing final drive) as well as having traction motors -- which one is it, DMU or DEMU? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ghiraddje (talkcontribs) 19:07, 12 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Indeed, I was wondering about that as well 86.181.243.128 (talk) 21:08, 24 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Why'd CAF get the contract?

edit

Just noticed it wasn't exactly the hardest decision to make considering only 1 company tendered for it! Jimmy1109 (talk) 11:28, 6 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

The big boys just aren't interested in such a "small" order. Compatibility requirements with existing 3K also favoured CAF. However, IE's DARTS, all compatible, sort of, came from 3 different sources, although I suppose that Alsthom is a successor of the original GEC. Anyway, not much choice when only 1 builder replies. I have asked a flickr contributor here about the possibility of them loading one of their pictures to this page, some great examples of work. In the meantime, does anyone know where there is some unprotected/licensed images? --NorthernCounties (talk) 18:27, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

NIR Class 450 replacement reasons

Why did the NIR Class 4000s replace the NIR Class 450s? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Clrichey (talkcontribs) 03:03, 26 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
