The result of the move request was: moved to List of members of the Offspring. Consensus to move, with List of members of the Offspring as the most supported alternative. Per WP:NOTCURRENTTITLE, a new move request can be started at any time to discuss any of the alternatives. (closed by non-admin page mover) Vpab15 (talk) 15:19, 18 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
List of Offspring members → List of The Offspring band members – Consistency with other articles, e.g. List of Maroon 5 band members, List of Faith No More band members et al. I can't move it to "List of The Offspring band members" myself, as the page is a redirect to The Offspring Wiki itself. - Move to a different title: The capitalization of "The" seems contrary to MOS:THEBAND. The other titles mentioned do not have "the" in their names. MOS:THEBAND says "
Mid-sentence, per the MoS main page, the word the should in general not be capitalized in continuous prose, e.g.: 'Wings featured Paul McCartney from the Beatles and Denny Laine from the Moody Blues.'
" Wikipedia titles are in sentence case, so they are formatted the same way as continuous prose. I suggest List of members of the Offspring (since the word "band" is not necessary, AFAICT), List of band members of the Offspring, or maybe List of the Offspring band members (although the last one seems a bit awkward to me). Perhaps the other mentioned examples should be moved, e.g., to List of members of Maroon 5 and List of members of Faith No More. — BarrelProof (talk) 19:19, 11 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
- Support List of members of the Offspring as first choice, and List of the Offspring band members as second choice, per BarrelProof. ModernDayTrilobite (talk • contribs) 14:42, 18 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
- Support List of the Offspring band members, given that Offspring is something different from the band. BD2412 T 15:38, 18 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
- Move to a different title Offspring members. Regarding the parent article (The Offspring), the in the title can be justified as necessary disambiguation because of conflict with the primary topic offspring. Capitalisation would disambiguate this. My view is that capitalisation for disambiguation is rarely the best option but is probably workable here. Offspring (band) is also an option. Depending on context, it is perfectly natural to refer to the band either with or without the definite article. Regardless, it begs the question as to whether The Offspring is the best title. To this article, it is WP:CONSISTENT with List of X band members but this falls to WP:OTHERTHINGS. Per WP:AT, WP:CONCISE generally has primacy among the considerations for choosing an article title. This pattern is not concise compared with X members and I don't see where it would be necessary to add band to the shorter pattern. If it were, this would be an exception rather than the rule. I also don't see why the is necessary just because it may be used in the parent article title - again, this is a matter of concision. To the nominated target, List of The Offspring band members, it would be perfectly natural and more concise to write List of Offspring band members and the same could be said of most all other articles using this pattern. Again, if the was necessary (eg List of the Band band members - which isn't a WP article), this should be the exception rater than the rule. Similarly, there is no good reason to use band members in the pattern when members is sufficient. To capitalisation of the in the Offspring, I see no good reason per MOS:CAPS to do so when not even the band does -at least not consistently. See the album cover for Ignition (The Offspring album). - In this case, I see that the disambiguation phrases in Category:The Offspring songs and Category:The Offspring albums include "The". On Wikipedia, that depends on the band in question. It is also done for The Chainsmokers, but it is not done for The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. — BarrelProof (talk) 16:23, 19 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
