Should the names in episode descriptions be in Japanese or English? edit

Should any characters' or Pokémon's names in the episode descriptions for episodes that have not yet aired in English-speaking countries be their Japanese names (what's currently on the page) or their English names for consistency. I'd personally grow with English. Paintspot (talk) 18:05, 1 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

It will better if you use English names Pokemasterady (talk) 12:12, 24 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Crabrawler edit

The note about Crabrawler being the "Unofficial English name" for a fighting type viewed in an episode needs to be removed. Since the games use the official English names, and Crabrawler is the name of the viewed pokemon. Also the note about an episode being the first to deal with death, its the first to have death happen in the course of the episode, but there have been episodes dealing with death numerous times. Every season has had at least one episode in which someone talks about a death, be it in regards to a haunted house or to an angry person seeking revenge. Heck in the very first season they talked about how Charmander would die if the flame went out, then in the same season they introduced the dead Marowak in Lavender Town.122.59.172.103 (talk) 07:29, 10 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Changing Japanese name to English edit

When should the Japanese name be changed into English? Assume the air date and time of the episode is on July 8, 2017 at 13:00-13:30 UTC. Is it on the beginning of July 8, 2017? Or 13:00? 13:15? 13:25? 13:29? 13:30? Or a couple of days before?

It's changed after it has completely aired in English for the first time.—CYBERPOWER (Message) 23:53, 5 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

English names edit

1 to 5 days before English airing, should the name be English name, right? 111.94.163.237 (talk) 08:41, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Wrong, when after aired is ongoing that means completely airing from the first time. so please do not edit from translate the character when it done. Oripaypaykim (talk) 09:37, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Wasei-eigo for English unaired episodes edit

For any episodes that has not been aired in English, I think wasei-eigo terms are also to be used. Is this right? 122.200.1.157 (talk) 02:20, 29 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

If there is a phrase "Ultra Ball" in any of the English unaired episodes, what does that mean? The "Beast Ball" (Japanese "Ultra Ball") or the English "Ultra Ball" (Japanese "Hyper Ball")? 122.200.1.157 (talk) 03:46, 29 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Updating English names for aired episode edit

Episode 968/961 "So Long, Sophocles!" (Goodbye, Māmane!) "Sayonara māmane!" (さよならマーマネ!) has aired, therefore the names should be changed to the English version. The changed text should be: Sophocles and his family may be moving away, so Sophocles will have to leave the Pokémon school and all his friends. Even though he tries to keep the news from his classmates, they can see that both he and Togedemaru are very upset. Ash and his friends work together to cheer up Sophocles with a farewell party. However, when Sophocles finds out he's made a mistake, he finds it very hard to tell his friends.

Requested move 7 May 2021 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved as proposed. There seems to be consensus that the four series mentioned should be moved, and that's in line with others such as XY Kalos Quest. On Gonnym's additional proposal to move things like Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl: Battle Dimension, there is no consensus. A counterargument was presented that the name "Pokemon the Series" wasn't actually used for that one. So additional moves should be proposed in a separate move request, if at all.  — Amakuru (talk) 10:22, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

– Consistent with the other Pokémon seasons' wikipedia titles that don't have "List of _____ episodes". Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl, Pokémon: Black & White, Pokémon: XY and Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon previously only weren't moved as these titles are ambiguous with the games they are named after. But since 2013, the Pokemon anime television series has been rebranded as "Pokemon the Series" (see the official Pokemon website anime section):

  • Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl (Pokémon season 10) is the first and titular season of the Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl
  • Pokémon the Series: Black and White (Pokémon season 14) is the first and titular season of the Pokémon the Series: Black and White (Pocket Monsters: Best Wishes! in Japan)
  • Pokémon the Series: XY (Pokémon season 17) is the first and titular season of the Pokémon the Series: XY
  • Pokémon the Series: Sun and Moon (Pokémon season 20) is the first and titular season of the Pokémon the Series: Sun and Moon

Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl (Pokémon season 10; originally known as Pokemon: Diamond and Pearl) and Pokémon the Series: Black and White (Pokémon season 14; originally known as Pokemon: Black and White) were retroactively given the prefix "The Series" since the Pokémon anime rebranding to "Pokémon the Series" in 2013. Yeungkahchun (talk) 20:11, 7 May 2021 (UTC) Relisting. Elli (talk | contribs) 06:11, 19 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Support changing the names to whatever consensus name is achieved. My issue with the above is that from Diamond and Peral to Pokémon the Series: XY Kalos Quest the titles use "Pokémon" and not "Pokémon the Series", so if Diamond and Peral is changed, anything after should also be changed. If however, those aren't changed, then "(TV season)" should be added to any season title needing it. --Gonnym (talk) 10:08, 8 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Gonnym: since what you're proposing seems to get the most agreement - and no one else is participating - could you please explain what naming you're proposing here? I'm somewhat confused and don't want to accidentally move pages to the wrong titles. Elli (talk | contribs) 22:33, 6 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl: Battle Dimension which is the next season after List of Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl episodes is titled simply "Pokémon:" and not "Pokémon the Series:". The title of the series is one of those, but it can't be dismissed as an editor choice. So basically, either the season articles not listed here, which come after "Diamond and Pearl", need to be changed from "Pokémon:" to "Pokémon the Series:", or that these 4 should gain a disambiguation and become "Pokémon: <season-name> (TV season)". As an example: "Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl (TV season)". Gonnym (talk) 00:59, 7 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Gonnym: I don't think seasons 11-13,15-16 require to be moved as the official Pokémon website still refers to those seasons as simply as "Pokémon" without the "the Series" caption for example: Pokémon: DP Battle Dimension https://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-episodes/pokemon-tv-seasons/season-11/ . They added "the Series" to all the series names, such as Pokemon the Series: the Beginning, Pokemon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire, Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl, Pokémon the Series: Black & White as all series names were re-franchised as "Pokémon the Series" in 2013.
I suggested moving these specific seasons' pages to Pokémon the Series (season name) as per convention on wikipedia we never have "List of _____ episodes" for a season article and that these seasons (seasons 10, 14) are the first and titular seasons of their respective series, which have been since renamed to "Pokémon the Series (series name) ever since "the Series" caption got introduced with "Pokémon the Series: XY in 2013. Moving the titular seasons makes sense as to reflect them being the titular and eponymous seasons of their series and also reflects their respective series' name changes to include "the Series". I specifically only suggested moving the seasons 10, 14, 17, 20 pages to Pokemon the Series (season name) for seasons 10, 14, 17, & 20 as to not get them confused with their respective games (DP, BW, XY, SM) which they are based after. Yeungkahchun (talk) 21:29, 7 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Partial support I believe that only some Pokémon season/series' name should be named. Compared to Gonnym, saying "Pokémon the Series: XY: Kalos Quest" doesn't make sense. WellThisIsTheReaper (talk) 18:16, 15 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
