Maybe while you're at it you can stop making editorial statements about him 'going against his constituents'. You have no idea what his constituents want with regards to healthcare. I think it would be better to say that he belongs to the Blue Dog Democratic Coalition. That is a verifiable fact, and I just checked it on their website. Simply calling him a Blue Dog sounds like an opinion. Scott Tillinghast, Houston TX (talk) 19:32, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Single-purpose account keeps adding puffery and WP:SYNTH

A single-purpose account that appears to have a close connection to the subject of the article keeps adding self-serving puffery and text cobbled together from primary sources (WP:SYNTH) to the article.[2] This has been pointed out to the account, yet the account persists in these edits. Per WP:BLPREQUESTRESTORE, the burden is on the single-purpose account to defend these edits. Snooganssnoogans (talk) 12:11, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

COI tag

I've added a conflict of interest tag to this article, which is very clear from the content and the list of SPA accounts at the bottom of the beige box above. This signifies to editors that the article has been extensively edited by someone with a conflict of interest, and is likely to have bias, in the form of missing negative content, overemphasis on "positives", non-neutral language (all of which are violations of the WP:NPOV content policy), and is likely to have unsourced or poorly sourced content, in violation of the WP:VERIFY content policy. It is likely that the content promotes the subject of the article, in violation of the WP:PROMO policy. Independent editors need to review the article and correct it, and then may remove the tag. Deleted paragraph about media appearances

Why was the following paragraph deleted from the 2017 version of the article?

Altmire was an active participant in congressional debates, speaking on the House floor more than two hundred times during his career. He was also a frequent guest on national political and cable news programs and was profiled in a variety of publications and media outlets, including Time, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Good Morning America, and Comedy Central's popular political satire program The Colbert Report.

One could argue about whether this particular set of media references is helpful for readers trying to understand Altmire's congressional tenure. Still, it's helpful for readers to have pointers to mainstream media profile pieces. It appears as though this entire paragraph was quietly elided without discussion. Do others agree that it would be worthwhile to restore this in some form? -- RobLa (talk) 18:16, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

June 12 edits

FMLA: Per WP:RSPRIMARY, added 2 U.S. Department of Labor regulations stipulating the implementation guidelines for FMLA law Altmire passed. The regulations directly name Altmire as the legislative author on at least five separate occassions, including quoting his House speech multiple times as a way to confirm congressional intent for the law. Also used as a source an academic study of FMLA published in Rutgers Law Journal by law professor Marcy Karin, an expert in employment law. She identifies Altmire as the lead sponsor of the law WP:SOURCETYPES.

TBI: Almanac of American Politics citation says about Altmire’s TBI Bill: “His proposal for increased screening for traumatic brain injuries for U.S. soldiers returning from Iraq was included in the defense spending bill that became law in January 2008." Also included as sources are a CQ/Roll Call article that was reprinted in New York Times referencing Altmire’s TBI amendment, and an article from a Pennsylvania newspaper listing Altmire's FMLA and TBI amendments as having been included in defense spending bill signed into law.

Conference Committees: Restored information about Altmire's appointment to conference committees finalizing 3 major laws. Signatories, including Altmire, are listed at the bottom of each cited document, the actual conference reports WP:RSPRIMARY. I did not include the fact that Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were also members of two of the committees with Altmire, although future editors may want to consider whether that merits inclusion.

Public Lands bill: Reworded description of Altmire's amendment as suggested by a previous Wikipedia editor. The new description clearly matches the sources, which include a New York Times article, an energy and environmental news journal, and a Pennsylvania newspaper. All three cite Altmire as the author of the amendment, which became law.

For the above, I used WP:RS, including WP:NEWSORG, WP:SOURCETYPES and WP:NEWSORG as guidance.

Centrist: Inserted a direct quote from CQ/Roll Call’s Politics in America. The RS quote serves as a better introduction to the subject of Altmire's tenure in Congress.

WP:MOS edits: Added page numbers to the HRC book’s reference to Altmire's role in 2008 superdelegate fight. The book devotes a substantial portion of its first chapter to Altmire's role and both Obama and Clinton are discussed extensively.

In discussing how subheadings may "clutter" short sections and subsections, in the WP:MOS under "Headings and sections" there is very clear guidance discouraging excess subheadings. For example: "Short paragraphs and single sentences generally do not warrent their own subheading." I thus removed the subheadings under "Early career."

Consistent with MOS:LEAD, I removed the second paragraph of the lead, relocating most of its contents to the more appropriate location within the article discussing Altmire's ACA vote. In accordance with MOS:LEAD guidelines, the second lead paragraph was not representative of the career of the subject, his activities in office, and or the depth of information presented in the article. A one-paragraph lead is appropriate for this subject and consistent with others of similar status. I do not think this article merits a second lead paragraph, but should future editors desire one, it should, per MOS:LEAD, be representative of the career of the subject and information presented in the article.

Please make an edit request and list the sources that support each sentence. It is not my burden to spend hours going through your edits which are large, move parts around and add a mixture of primary sources and secondary sources, as well as add a mixture of mundane trivia and actual notable content. Everything you are reverting is meticulously sourced according to WP:RS and the sourcing was done in direct response to concerns you raised. I did what you requested yet you still object to the very edits that you yourself suggested. It seems you are more interested in discrediting the subject than creating an accurate article. I’m trying to work with you to address your suggestions, not engage in edit wars. For example, I did not restore everything to which you originally objected and I left in place most of your additions. I transferred your additional lead to a more appropriate place under ACA and made minor format edits per WP:MOS. The current material you are reverting is not puffery but relevant and properly sourced. The more questionable material you flagged was not restored. It remains out of the article. Cleanup changes - June 12, 2020

Cleanup today to the Jason Altmire article included fixing bare URLs, rescuing dead links from the Wayback Machine archive, adding a title for a YouTube reference, consolidation of duplicate reference(s), removal of unrecoverable reference(s). Maintenance template

I intended to remove the UPE template but saw the prior discussion, so wanted to allow for comment here first. Since the tag was placed, a Wikiproject cleanup was completed (see above) and separately 4,000 characters of disputed content was removed by three different editors. None of the disputed COI edits remain in the article. I also added a RS citation to confirm the current version related to being a lobbyist, a subject the COI editor had previously tried to remove. I think the article is sufficiently cleaned up and now conveys NPOV. Interested editors please let me know if you have any additional cleanup suggestions I should make before the tag is removed.
