Examples of racial bias on WikipediaEdit

  • The lead to Donald Trump's article cannot mention that he led the birther movement and came to prominence in modern US politics by arguing that the first black president was not born in the US
  • The Ronald Reagan article cannot mention anywhere that Reagan referred to blacks as "monkeys". Editors who opposed the inclusion of the content argued that calling blacks "monkeys" is not necessarily racist and that a president using racist slurs is not of any importance
  • The Reagan article cannot mention in its lead that Reagan opposed sanctions on South Africa over its apartheid system (even though it led Congress to take the rare step of overturning his veto)
  • The same set of editors try systemically to block the addition of any content related to race and racism on Wikipedia. Attempts to add race-related material to Wikipedia (and overcome the systemic omission of content related to racial and ethnic minorities) frequently needs to jump over arbitrary and purposely-unreachable hurdles erected by these editors.
  • For some editors (and admins), the big problem on Wikipedia is not racial bias, but editors who call out racial bias[1]

Content that needs to be in Wikipedia but isn'tEdit

  • Peer-reviewed research on Brexit: Talk:Brexit#RfC: Study on impact on financial sector
    • Kept out because economists are idiots, the IMF may have falsified data to harm Brexit, and because a study on the effects Brexit would have on UK financial institutions (which employs 1.2 million people - approx. 4% of the total workforce - and accounts for 11.6% of the total UK government tax receipts) was just some "investment advice".
  • Birtherism in the lede of Trump: Talk:Donald Trump/Archive 93#RfC: Birtherism in the lede
    • Kept out because editors know better than peer-reviewed research by leading political scientists on the importance of birtherism in Trump's nascent political career (no sources cited to rebut the peer-reviewed assessments).
  • The Republican Party's politicization of MS-13 in the lede of MS-13: Talk:MS-13#RfC: MS-13 lead
    • Kept out because covering and correcting false claims about the gang by the most powerful leader in the world and his political party was biased
  • Paul Ryan's links to the Congressional Leadership Fund, a powerful super PAC renowned for racist ads: Talk:Paul Ryan#RfC: Paul Ryan and the Congressional Leadership Fund
    • Kept out because the CLF has nothing to do with Ryan, even though every reliable source links Ryan with the CLF and its racist ads.
  • Mitch McConnell's lede can't mention obstructionism: Talk:Mitch McConnell#RfC: Mitch McConnell and obstructionism
    • Kept out because it is a violation of neutrality to describe his actions as obstructionism, despite the fact that a multitude of peer-reviewed academic research does, and because Wikipedia editors know more about politics than political scientists who publish in top academic outlets.
  • William Barr's lede can't mention that his summaries of the Mueller report were deceptive and misleading: Talk:William Barr#Post-RFC: Mueller report summary in the lede
    • Kept out because editors believe that his summaries of the Mueller report were accurate, despite every single reliable source that covered Barr and his summaries of the report concluded otherwise.
  • Jimmy Dore's lede can't describe his show as a far-left conspiracy theory show even though reliable sources describe it as such: Talk:Jimmy Dore#RfC: "a far-left show known for promoting conspiracy theories"
    • Kept out of the lede because reliable sources are biased, he is a "skeptic" (citation needed) and because he isn't as much of a conspiracy theorist as Alex Jones.
  • The Presidency of Donald Trump article can't mention that the EPA downplayed the dangers of trichloroethylene because this content, along with peer-reviewed research, makes a right-wing editor yawn.[3]
  • Mark Levin's article can't mention his George Soros conspiracy theories
    • Kept out because Wikipedia editors believe that demonstrably false George Soros conspiracy theories are in fact true, and even if they weren't, the item does not fit the "theme" of the Levin's article (Levin, who is renowned for his incendiary thetoric, pro-Trump gibberish and feverish conspiracy theorizing): Talk:Mark Levin#RfC: Whistleblower - George Soros conspiracy theory
  • Wikipedia needs to have a guideline requiring that editors use aggregate polling rather than individual polls
    • Not implemented because fringey editors don't understand how polls work and/or want to have a reason to cherrypick polls that fit whatever narrative they want to push.
  • Reagan's lead can't mention his non-response to the AIDS crisis and his opposition to anti-apartheid efforts: Talk:Ronald Reagan#RfC
    • Because some people don't matter
