Britain's Got Talent Final Results

Hollie Steel finished 6th in the public voting, beating 4 of the other contestants. As over 4,000,000 votes were phoned in, and Hollie got almost 4%, she received around 150,000 to 160,000 votes. The first 4 in the list received 77.8% of the total vote - see below. Also note that it has been pointed out that the telephone number shown for Susan Boyle during some of the scrolls of telephone numbers while voting was ongoing was actually that for Diversity; if only 2.4% of the total number of voters ended up voting for Diversity but meant to vote for Susan Boyle, the results for first and second would have been reversed. We will never know... but Hollie definitely beat 4 of the other finalists in the voting.

Dates of developments or reports should be included. We often forget that while the information is fresh in our minds - say when Armstrong walked on the moon - we forget that 5 years from now a student will be reading it for the first time and will need dates and times. My two cents: a merge to the main article on the competition seems like the best option. To be honest, I can't see how the last AfD was closed as "no consensus"—if I were the closing admin I certainly would have closed it as delete, given that many of the keep votes were SPAs or other random editors who clearly did not understand Wikipedia guidelines, typed in all caps, etc.—but oh well. Deletion of talk page comments

I query why User:Radiopathy deleted comments on the notability of the subject and whether a merger might be appropriate. I must ask that these are re-instated immediately. You may want to attempt another Afd, despite the closing admin's comments on the last one; you won't get "censored" there, as that's the appropriate venue.

Likewise, if you favour merging, a template at the top of the article will get a discussion started here on the talk page.

I repeat - the notability of this subject is questionable as commented on here by User:Uksam88 [2] and User:Gwen Gale [3] and myself [4] and [5]. Naming

The article was recently updated to change references such as Hollie to Steel. This is a common usage on Wikipedia but seems unsatisfactory for the following reasons:

• The article covers several members of the Steel family and so the family name alone may be ambiguous.
• The usage seems offensively abrupt, falling awkwardly between formal usage — Miss Steel — and informal — Hollie
• The repeated usage of Steel and/or personal pronouns such as she tends to be monotonous and so makes our article seem crude and poorly written.

I suggest that we improve the article by using varying phrases such as the child singer and tearful contestant. I shall perhaps make some attempt at this myself but as we already have differing versions some discussion seems best before more work is done. Colonel Warden (talk) 10:28, 30 July 2009 (UTC)#

And I suggest that you do not remove comments from this talk page. If it gets too big then archive it. These amateur attempts at censorship will get you into hot water if they continue. Disagree. First of all, the article only briefly mentions other members of the Steel family, they're not talked about throughout the articles; there is no ambiguity anywhere "Steel" is used, because she is understood as the primary focus of the article. And even if there were ambiguity in a sentence or two, that would not justify using "Hollie" throughout the entire article. Secondly, as for "monotonous", using "Hollie" over and over again is equally monotonous, and less professional.

As for your suggestion of replacing her name with stuff like "the tearful contestant"...absolutely not. This kind of flowery, peacocky wording is non-neutral, unprofessional, and makes for a poor article. rʨanaɢ ^talk/_contribs 19:27, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Switching back and forth from Hollie to Steel is a waste of time. It should be Steel. That is the accepted form. Nice to see some other scholar put back the fact that Steel has a manager. Furthermore, I enjoyed the comment about too much debate over new items concerning this person. Sorry I'm not familiar with the rules. This was the first time I updated a page on here cause I thought I could help out with the errors on the article (Rolf Harris - it's a deal that although was reported in the papers, was a false alarm, evident by the fact that nothing came of it) and update the article as well (record contract signed in September, single scheduled for release in December and album in March). I did include a news article for her performance in Hong Kong and Preston. Ok, I give up. Included information from a perfectly credible news article that appeared yesterday and cited it like the others, yet it was deleted. Not sure what's expected if that wasn't acceptable.

Look at the Beyond Britain's Got Talent section: that's where the content went. It was moved out of the lead because it was just too long; the lead is meant to be a brief summation summarisation of what the reader can expect from the article. Foreign readers such as people in Vietnam (which seems to especially report BGT in its press) will not be much helped by any reference to places and so a link is best for them - if they care enough they can follow the nested placename articles. This is analagous to what we do for American places where the placename and state is enough. Actually, there are no "instructions", per se, but under the parameters guideline, it does say, "Most fields are optional and the row will simply be omitted if no data is supplied." I don't believe there is such a thing as a "two song album"; I think it's safe to assume that for at least for the present that this will strictly be a digital download. Edit explanation July 2, 2012

The software possibly gone crazy; told me their was an edit conflict when I was the only one editing, then editing was finalized without tbe explanation I had typed. Can anyone shed light on this? I have been following her career via the internet including her official pages and the only place this album is listed is on Amazon. The release date contradicts the article which lists her first recording with a later release date. The samples do not sound like Hollie although this is not positive proof with the current technology being able to change the way people sound. I deleted the sentence that depended on that Amazon page, the software saved the edit before I finished the summary. There is a 52 minute documentary drama titled "Children on the Titanic" which is "ready for delivery". Steel acts in and sings in the production. Her second album contains songs and a spoken track from the film. Following is the text of an email I received from the company that produced the film.

Reverted "Louise" again. I had thought of adding Bee to her name within quotes as "Hollie Bee"' is the nickname she often uses in her postings to her official Facebook account. However, it is my understanding that Facebook is looked on as not being allowed by the guardians of strictness. I removed the "rally co-driver" and relocated the citation to the end of the sentence. I did not remove any citations. I was satisfied with the preview of my edit. When I tried to save this edit; I was told there was an edit conflict so I left the page without saving. I thought it might be easier to start from scratch. Date tampering?

It is the latter edit where the tampering is. Changing my correction and removing the citation that supports it is 'tampering'. Note that in the video it is Hollie who states that her birthdate is the tenth. First of all, you were not logged in when you made that edit; all I saw was an IP address. I just assumed that some IP vandal changed the date. Second, you can't use a YouTube video as a source unless, for example, it's from Hollie's channel. Her official site, BTW, says she was born the 1st July.

I considered Hollie's statement in her own words spoken in an interview for radio broadcast to be a good source and thought that the website might be in error. Since the website still says the first, I could consider her on air statement to be incorrect and chalk it up to nervousness similar to the trouble she had earlier in her life on BGT. Note that the website is not flawless; it claims that she has produced eight albums. If so, most of these must be of very limited circulation. The penultimate paragraph in 'Singing Career' is poorly written and makes little sense:

In 2014, Hollie moved to London, UK permanently to attended the prestigious college in Islington The Urdang Academy to study a three-year course in Musical Theatre [38] to pursue a career in acting. Since then Miss Steel has gained a very large following on social media sites and posts covers on her YouTube channel (holliebsteelofficial).

I would suggest the following:
