In Leks Not on Leks

edit

I found the article describing birds meeting "on a lek" -- a lek is a group of animals, not a place.

I've corrected this here, but if someone diligent wants to search Wikipedia for other occurrences of "on a lek" that would be a good idea (the main Grouse article also had "on a lek" I believe, but has been corrected already by someone else). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.199.67.101 (talk) 06:07, 10 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Criticisms found in the article footnotes

edit

Somebody (not me) posted the following in the article's footnotes rather than on the discussion page. I cut-and-pasted it here:

> Global Warming effects and comments associated with them are not
> proven, not science based and should be reworded.
>
> You should at least add "thought to be" instead of making it a
> declarative sentence. No wonder the left has such a huge problem
> with this issue. Keep it science based and lose the assumptions.

Again, not my words. Just putting them in the right place. funchords (talk) 15:03, 6 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Greater Sage-Grouse vs Sage Grouse

edit

If this species is known officially and specifically in English as Greater Sage-Grouse through its entire native range in North America, then why default to Sage Grouse instead? Very puzzling editorial choice to me.

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Move as proposed. It wasn't discussed what to do with Sage Grouse, so it will be left as a redirect here; this can be fixed later if need be. Cúchullain t/c 15:25, 24 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sage GrouseGreater Sage-Grouse – Every external source discussing this species in its native North American range refers to it as Greater Sage-Grouse since the split from Gunnison Sage-Grouse. Miwa * talk * contribs ^_^ 17:55, 11 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Support as suggested. I was going to close this but (and now I'm involved), scanning through the first 100 Google Book results, I see the hyphen is used at least 90% of the time.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 14:10, 20 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
No objections to the hyphenated form. --BDD (talk) 22:38, 22 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

I believe there are multiple Antelope Valleys in California, and the one listed under habitat where sage grouse use black sagebrush is not the Antelope Valley in Los Angeles, but one that is far up in Northern California. Mrrachma (talk) 23:43, 1 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
