SLFP party's views edit

This comment against UNP needs to be removed this is shear political propaganda that only the SLFP is fighting and that the opposition is pro tiger.I feel both the SLFP and UNP support the war against the LTTE through in different ways.*In 1971 Sri Lanka was under British Governor rule and he was appointed? What does this mean?Article needs citations for the last section in particular.

  • 1:Another aspect about Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is his commitment and passion towards the military. So much so that even now, as a retired officer and the Defence Secretary, he sometimes turns a bit emotional when anyone tries to demean the service personnel.(This statement is a Point of View)
  • 2:Also this achievement was highly criticized by the opposition United Nation Party (UNP).Not getting this.Clear SLFP point of view UNP is not supporting the war and please read below what you put contradicts the earlier comment not easy for person not familar with subject
  • It should be also noted that,Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has been awarded gallantry awards by no less than three Presidents, J.R. Jayewardene, Ranasinghe Premadasa and D.B. Wijetunga, all of them being from the UNP leadership.
  • 3:Both books were printed before 2000 War and Peace in Sri Lanka:
  • Army Lanka covers 1949-99
  • War and Peace in Sri Lanka: With a Post-Accord Report From Jaffna. Was printed in 1987.How do they cover current conflict.
  • Fresh citations needed

Not changed a single word Feel also copy edit is needed. But waiting for your reply Harlowraman 14:28, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Iwasaki no citations in the references given.

  • 1:Army Lanka covers 1949-99 Covers only till 1999.
  • 2:War and Peace in Sri Lanka: With a Post-Accord Report From Jaffna was printed in 1987

Please give the citations or clarify on this and remove the tag. Harlowraman 02:01, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

In that case, put {{Fact}} tag at the relevant places. I will add necessary citations inn due time. Above two sources mainly covers his military career so there are quite important to the article. And about the UNP thing, I have already add facts, from an newspaper runs by Mr Ranil Wikramasinghes uncle. Iwazaki 会話。討論 02:09, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Section with suspecting contents edit

The section Political Abductions & White Van Incidents is not created on reliable sources. The citations added there cannot be accepted as a reliable sources. It is clear that the news report has totally based on rumours and it is not a credible source agreed with wiki Neutral point of view. If the news is true, it would be a head line on the other newspapers in Sri Lanka as the subject is very sensitive. The claim Quotation begins->"Colombo Telegraph last week unearthed another WikiLeaks cable. According to the cable Major General Prasad Samarasinghe the former Military Spokesman and Director, Directorate of Media in the Army, has been passing highly sensitive information to the US Embassy in Colombo on a burning issue – Abductions. Many of those abducted were believed to have been individuals who had fallen foul of the Rajapaksa trio. Mahinda, Basil and Gotabhaya. The President’s other brother Chamal seemingly does not figure. Not in this triumvirate. The cable dated July 6, 2007 and written by then Charge d’Affaires James R. Moore to the US Embassy is classified as “SECRET” and discusses Sri Lanka’s problem of political abductions and abductions-for-ransom."Quotation ended.[1]
And the non-registered user's (whose IP address shown as 101.103.165.123) behaviour is unacceptable as he/she had done such a sensitive error on Victor Rathnayake page claiming that he was dead in 2012, without any supportive reliable source. So I ask any admin to do an investigation on that user. Thank you.

The two sources provided - Daily Mirror and Sunday Leader - are reliable sources. What you're doing is censorship.--obi2canibetalk contr 17:50, 11 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

7th Executive President edit

@Blackknight12:, @Cossde:, @Dan arndt: The remaining results are yet to be released but few editors have added the fact that he is the 7th Executive President of Sri Lanka. He is leading the polls but his victory is not officially confirmed by the Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya. Claims made by the candidate himself may not count at the moment. Semi-protected edit request on 9 July 2022 edit

In 2018, he emerged as a possible candidate for the 2019 presidential election, which he successfully contested on a pro-nationalistic, economic development and national security platform. He is the first person with a military background to be elected as President of Sri Lanka and the first person to be elected president who had not held an elected office prior.[6] During his presidency he increased the power of the executive through the 20th Amendment and nepotism rose as Rajapaksa family members took positions of power. Economic mismanagement drove the economy to bankruptcy, causing Sri Lanka to declare default for the first time since gaining independence in 1948. Shortages and inflation caused Sri Lankans to protest, which the Rajapaksa administration attempted to suppress through authoritarian means such as a state of emergency which allowed the military to arrest civilians, impose curfews, restrict social media, and assault protesters and journalists, and arrest online activists. Gotabaya Rajapaksa refused to step down despite heavy protests, and after an organised attack by loyalists of Mahinda Rajapaksa against peaceful protestors resulted in a violent mass retaliation against the Rajapaksas and their loyalists, the government deployed the military in armoured vehicles with shoot-on-sight orders. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fleed the country after a mass protest in front of his office and also after people took his official house under them, he informed PM Ranil Wickremesinghe that he will respect any decision taken at Party Leaders' meeting. Date of Resignation edit

President Rajapaksa has not resigned yet and did not do so as of 14 July, 8 AM Sri Lanka local time. According to Sri Lanka Constitution, he will only resign when his resignation letter is received by the Speaker. PM Wickremesinghe was appointed as acting president which is a usual process every time when a Sri Lankan president travels abroad. So Rajapaksa is still the incumbent President.[1] Why in the infobox it says he resigned on 13 July? Wikisuwish (talk) 02:30, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
