Hagiographic Puffery edit

An editor with a conflict of interest is adding back unreferenced hagiographic puffery, namely "Philanthropy and community service not only ground Girish but are the foundations of business philosophy – handed down to Girish from his father, and followed by all members of the Jhunjhnuwala family. Throughout the company’s history, Girish has made numerous strides to volunteer and encourage those around him to support a range of community activities to help the disadvantaged and sponsor events that are for the better of society." This content has absolutely no place in a neutral Wikipedia article and is more suited to their own website. Please stop adding it. Theroadislong (talk) 09:19, 14 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Notability of Girish Jhunjhnuwala and updates to links edit

Hi there, I'm a member of the team representing Girish Jhunjhnuwala, so connected to the subject and understand I cannot directly make updates to his profile.

I see the note saying he may not fit notability guidelines, but I think he does now as he's been featured in a number of highly respected publications including the cover of Entrepreneur in India.[1] Please let me know if you agree and would be hoping to update his profile.

Additional features include the below highly ranked sites. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]

I'm new to this collaboration, so please forgive me if I'm not adequately following appropriate formalities. I truly respect and value Wikipedia and everything the volunteers are doing to offer us respectable research-based information.

In 2002, he sold the business and ventured into property development after acquiring an office complex in Hong Kong's Central business district. Girish decided to develop this building into the first Ovolo serviced apartment. After proving the concept, Jhunjhnuwala acquired more properties and continued expanding the Ovolo Hotels brand.

Explanation of issue: In the infobox, the requested changes are related to the change in his designation and role. In the lead paragraph, I have added his nationality and occupation for a comprehensive approach. In the second section, please change the title from 'Biography' to 'Education and career' as it is more apt for the content of the section. The second paragraph of this section is re-worded to remove puffery and updated information is added in the last lines. Information to be added or removed:

1. In the 'Biography' section, please add:

He owns four hotels in Hong Kong, and six hotels in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Canberra.[1] (As requested by you earlier, the names of the hotels are in Hong Kong, it is Ovolo Southside, Ovolo Central, Mojo Nomad Aberdeen and Mojo Nomad Central; In Sydney it is Ovolo 1888 Darling Harbour and Ovolo Woolloomooloo; In Melbourne it is Ovolo Laneways; In Brisbane it is Ovolo Inchcolm and Ovolo The Valley and in Canberra it is Ovolo Nishi). In 2018, Jhunjhnuwala opened another hospitality brand in Hong Kong called Mojo Nomad.[2]

2. As requested, the Wiki link for Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year is Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The HM Magazine Asia-Pacific Hotelier of the Year Award does not have a Wiki page.

Explanation of issue: I have provided the reference and names of the hotels information to be added. Mojo Nomad is the name of their new hotel and I have provided reference for it. I have also provided the Wiki link for E&Y Award.

I don't see the references listed for this information in the text above. What we need are the individual mentions of each hotel as being opened/owned/financed by the subject in independent reliable sources (an interview with the subject about their hotels would not be considered an independent source, because it is the subject talking about a hotel, and not an independent source making this claim of ownership). Additionally, I dont see a listing of the properties that the subject owns as content that needs to be placed in the article, per WP:NOTADIRECTORY, the article should not become a directory listing of real estate holdings. An acceptable alternative would be a table containing this information, as that form is easier to access at a glance than is information in the form of prose. An emplaced table is acceptable per MOS:EMBED. But even then, there may be objections from other editors asking for the relevance of a list or a table of properties. We cant know for sure until that table is placed in the article, and that cant happen until a request is made with the table inserted in the request. The Ernst and Young Entreprenuer award is different from the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year China 2016 Services Category award. Please clarify which one was won, with a reference for the claim. Please note, that each edit request is its own, individual request, such that references provided in past requests but not repeated here in the newer request can't be approved unless they are provided here. The alternative is to search through a wall of text to find a needle in a haystack. Your assistance in locating the reference and placing it here in the new request is much appreciated. Thank you!  Spintendo  17:57, 5 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
I've added the Ernst and Young award. The connection is tenuous, but it appears that the China version of this award is an outcrop of the main award, nominally handled by the same organization, which is idependently notable in Wikipedia.  Spintendo  18:12, 5 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

3. Please add the following line in biography section:

Information to be added: Please change the last line of the 'Biography' section to:

He owns 10 properties — six in Australia and four in Hong Kong.[1]

Explanation of issue: The current statement is incorrectly stated. Darling Harbour and Woolloomooloo are in Sydney. He owns four properties in Hong Kong and six in Australia (2 sydney, 1 melbourne, 2 brisbane and 1 canberra). The information in the current reference is up to date. The terms 'hotels' and 'serviced apartments' was causing confusion. I really appreciate your efforts @Spintendo: and hope that you will rectify the facts. Thanks!

Reply 15-APR-2019 edit

The purpose of the article is not to keep a running tally of the properties that Ovolo Hotels manages. As reliable sources have reported on key items, they have been discussed here. Whether those properties continue to be managed or were later sold is only material if it were reported in multiple reliable sources, and even then, would be more apropos to the article on Ovolo Hotels. If future items are proposed here, please use the |quote= parameter to highlight the text from independent reliable sources. Gourmet Traveler and Forbes.com are not RS. The information from HNN is apropos for the Ovolo Hotels article.[a] Spintendo  20:49, 15 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Notes

  1. ^ The HNN article does not give a full listing of each property managed, it only summarizes the numbers, a summary which ought to be placed in the Ovolo Hotels article. This article should only mention key acquisitions mentioned by name (and/or location by city) in reliable sources.
