des Dichters oberster Mund

Is this possibly a personal reference to Thomas Mann and should the translation be "the writer's principal mouth" instead of "poet's"? I cannot see the reference. Jmar67 (talk) 18:59, 27 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

I just started. "Dichter" is poet, "oberster" is difficult, perhaps "voice" would be better for "Mund", or a footnote. There was an exhibition in his memory with the quote as the title. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:19, 27 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
ps: and yes, Thomas Mann is meant --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:20, 27 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Dichter can also be "writer". I see the exhibition was plural ("Der Dichter ..."), so there was a generalization. I am also for "voice". Jmar67 (talk) 19:37, 27 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Katia meant Thomas, but the exposition played with it, more generally. A writer could write for a newspaper, no? Any other word for someone who writes as a form of art? And Mann was one of the greatest in that respect. - For context, I need to translate more, but likely not even tomorrow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:52, 27 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
