Attacks

We need to be careful how somethings are presented. There have been some edits without citations, which could libel the company. I have edited these where possible and replaced text that has been blanked without explanation or justification.--Shakujo 06:40, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

I have changed some of the inaccuracies in the article in as unbiased a way as possible.

1. Student Contracts: Students are able to transfer their contracts to overseas schools, and there is no problem with ending contracts early. Students are also able to terminate contracts as and when they like.

2. Teachers are not required to have a background in education because the requirements laid down by the Japanese government state that people coming to Japan on the Specialist in Humanities and International Relations visa need to have completed a minimum of a bachelor degree, and speak English as a first language. These are not rules created by GEOS.

3. There is no preferential hiring of new teachers based on sales experience. Teachers are hired based on several requirements. If an interviewee has excellent sales experience, but, in the opinion of the hiring officer, it is believed they will not be able to be trained how to teach, they will not be hired.

Advertisment

This article reads like an advertisment to work at Geos. Discussion of lesson plans and hiring practices are not encyclopedic.

If all unsourced items are removed from this article there would be nothing left. It is is promotional and not notable. Have a look at Talk:Nova (English school in Japan) for similar discussions.

Change of page title

The page title should be changed because

• Eikaiwa is a Japanese term not widely understood by English speakers
• The school is international
• The school teaches languages other than English

My suggestion is Geos (language school). I am open to other suggestions. -- Sparkzilla talk! 05:27, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

GEOS may well be an "international" school. But the Head Offices are in Japanese. Surely the name of the company should be kept as originally intended or trasnliterated? GEOS as well as many other language schools teache languages other than English. The word "Eikaiwa" is used by most of the main schools in Japan because it is originally what they soley did. Companies don't change these names because the term Eikaiwa is synonymous with language education. Should it be changed to "Gaikokukaiwa"? I think that is not really within the remit of even wikipedia to decide. We should should use the formal terms given used by companies, and offer them with trasliterations to uncover their meanings to people who do not speak the language of the country the companies originate. Changing "Eikaiwa" to Langauge School, is akin to changing the page about the French TGV to VFT (Very Fast Train), just because it is listed on the English language version of Wikipedia. Not sure anyone will follow what I mean. I think GEOS (Eikaiwa) should stay as it is. Paulman 11:44, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

I think keeping it Eikaiwa is the way to go, and I agree that calling it a 'language school' isn't correct, it's not accurate. Statisticalregression 23:18, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

BBC links about language schools

is there any indication that the language schools noted in the BBC external links are Geos? I didn't see any mention of it....does anyone know more?Statisticalregression 21:06, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Can't see any mention. I reckon this is just an attack on GEOS as a company and would suggest the links should be deleted, as they bear no reference to GEOS Schools in the UK. I removed the links - since there is no mention of Geos in the articles. Maybe Geos schools were part of the story but without any specific mention it's just not proper to keep themStatisticalregression 23:16, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
