Merger edit

Suggest not merging with Global - due to the long history of GCap, and retaining this article up to the merger. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.149.31.226 (talk) 16:22, 4 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I would repeat my suggestion of merging the two articles, given that the Global Radio page now says that all stations are identified as being owned by Global Radio - therefore GCap now serves absolutely no independent function.

GCap, GWR and Capital Radio Group however form a major part of the history of commercial radio in the united kingdom. Collectively they dominated local radio for over a decade. That to me forms a large enough part of the history of the UK for them to warrant a wikipedia article.

Global is not just a name change - it's a seismic change in the operation of the 35/40 local radio companies which made up GCap and for this reason the GCap days deserve to be remembered. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.150.17.32 (talk) 19:29, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

In the event of this article being merged with the Global Radio one, as much of the details of the history of GCap and its predecessor companies should be included as possible. I see no need in truncating the combined article for the sake of making it shorter at the cost of detail. Williamh120 22:25 30th November 2008 (GMT)

I think the GCap Media and Global Radio articles should remain separate for the reason mentioned above, that the history of GCap is so long. Wikiwoohoo (talk) 00:06, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Quite agree. 80.176.73.145 (talk) 20:33, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I concur. Global was born from the merger of Capital and GWR, and this is a historically accurate account of events. This article should remain. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.71.192.193 (talk) 14:25, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

The above is incorrect. GCap Media was formed from the merger of Capital and GWR whilst Global was the purchase of GCap Media by the owners of what used to be Chrysalis Radio.94.193.78.154 (talk) 19:41, 15 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

The only problem is that some person who thinks he is probably being a smart alec is changing all the station names and the 'station groupings' into the Global Radio format - eg Hit Music Network, Heart Network etc. etc. when they should just be left as the 'One Network.' This page is meant to be about Gcap (and possibly GWR and Capital) and should therefore list the channels as they were in October 2008, prior to the completion of the takeover. All this Heart Network, Hit Music Network stuff should be left to the Global Radio page. 81.132.254.98 (talk) 16:40, 21 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

GCap / Global edit

Have tidied up a number of sections as it seemed blurred between how GCap was run and how Global ran the stations after they took over. For example, the rebranding exercise to Heart was carried out after the stations had been sold to Global and therefore it doesn't really form part of GCaps history. Therefore I've grouped the former One Network stations together and given them their original names.94.193.3.133 (talk) 18:56, 14 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
