Founding

I am confused. From the article as it stands:

The paper started in 1886 by volunteers including Peter Kropotkin and Charlotte Wilson and continues to this day as an unpaid project. [...] Anarchists work towards a society of mutual aid and voluntary co-operation. We reject all government and economic repression. This newspaper, published continuously since 1936...

At first glance this appears to give two conflicting dates for the origin of the paper. I would assume however that there was some significant interruption (the wars?) - do we have a reference for this? --Black Butterfly 22:41, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

It ceased publication for a time due to internal strife among the Freedom collective; 1936 was the year publication resumed. Skomorokh 06:15, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Another date conflict, Re: Spain and the World. Article states that "Spain and the World was an anarchist publication founded in 1936 by Vernon Richards[2] with former Freedom writers, which had effectively ceased publication in 1932." How it could cease publication four years before it was founded is a mystery. 1932 is probably a typo of 1939, I'm basing this on the reference (2), wherein is stated of Vernon Richards, "He founded and edited Spain and the World, which became Revolt in 1939. Later is was called War Commentary (1939-1945) and then Freedom, from 1945." Therefore the article should probably read that Spain and the World was founded in 1936, and effectively ceased publication in 1939, which of course it would have at the end of the Spanish Civil War. ~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michael Isaiah Schmidt (talk • contribs) 09:42, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

I think the initial reading should be "Spain and the World was an anarchist publication founded in 1936 by Vernon Richards[2] with former Freedom writers, which (ie, Freedom) had effectively ceased publication in 1932." In other words, 'Freedom' ceased publication in 1932, Richards and some former 'Freedom' writers began 'Spain and the World' in 1936, this publication under a series of names ('Revolt', 'War Commentary') has been published ever since, and in 1945 was renamed 'Freedom'. 86.2.149.210 (talk) 22:17, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
