This article provides specific advice for assessing the quality of articles in the Wikipedia:WikiProject Newspapers.
Articles about newspapers edit
The assessment of quality of articles about newspapers is made using the general Wikipedia:Content assessment guidelines. In addition, the following specific guidelines for newspaper articles are recommended:
Stub-Class articles:
- An {{Infobox newspaper}} template with at least the name, language, type, headquarters, publishing_city, and publishing_country. Knowing where the newspaper was published will help others research the newspaper.
- At least one in-line reference, preferably not the newspaper's website.
- A Reference section with a {{Reflist}} template
- An '{{Italic title}} template at the top of the page
- A {{See also|List of newspapers in XXX}}, where XXX is the country or country administrative region
- A description in the first paragraph about why the newspaper is notable.
- At least two categories, i.e. Category:Newspapers published in Administrative Region or Country and a Category for the city where the newspaper was published.
- Wiki-links to cities, administrative regions, persons, companies, and other newspapers mentioned in the article
- Templates on the talk page, including {{WikiProject Newspapers|class=Stub|importance=(Top/High/Mid/Low)}} with class and importance entered
Start-Class articles:
- All information found in the Stub Class description above.
- Additional infobox information, including pertinent ISSN, oclc numbers; owner, founder, or publisher; foundation and ceased date; owner of the newspaper
- Two or more in-line references documenting the information in the article with complete reference citations
- A section describing the history of the newspaper
- Categories for the date the newspaper was established and ceased if applicable
C-Class articles
- All information found in the Start and Stub Class descriptions above.
- Additional infobox information, including editors and other staff
- A description of previous names and dates when they were used for the newspaper
- A description of the changes in ownership of the newspaper
- A section on the Awards received by the newspaper or other notable recognition
- A {{coord}} template with coordinates of the headquarters of the newspaper when known
- When applicable, templates such as the company owning the newspaper, state newspaper templates, etc. should be included at the bottom of the page.
B-Class articles:
- All information found in the Start-, Stub-, and C-Class articles
- A. Appropriate image(s) or illustration(s) of the newspaper, persons, or places affiliated with the newspaper
- B. Complete coverage of the history and recognition that the newspaper has received without inaccuracies. All knowable fields in the Infobox newspaper are completed
- C. Suitable and reliable in-line referencing of all content
- D. Well written text that is easy to understand
GA-, A-, FA-Class articles:
- All information found in Start-, Stub-, and C-Class articles and guidelines found in Wikipedia:Good article, Wikipedia:Content assessment/A-Class criteria, and Wikipedia:Featured article criteria should be used.
Lists of newspapers edit
Lists of newspapers should all have a {{WikiProject Newspapers|class=List|importance=TBD}}. Lists of newspapers should include an introductory paragraph describing the region and approximate number of newspaper names that have been printed in the region. The list should include all newspapers currently published in print or online. Newspapers should be listed individually in alphabetical order (disregard "The" when it occurs in the newspaper name) with the name of the newspaper in italics, location where the newspaper was published, frequency of the newspaper, founding date, owner, circulation numbers for a given year with reference, and references for each newspaper. Newspapers that are notable should be linked to a Wikipedia article on the newspaper. Newspapers are often grouped in sections, such as daily newspapers, newspapers with other than daily frequencies, special interest newspapers, and newspapers that have ceased to be published (sometimes included in a separate List article. The list should include a Reference section and often includes a template at the bottom of the page for newspapers in the region.
Other edit
REDIRECT, Disambiguation, and Category pages do not need a class assigned in the template.
