Vandalism Removal edit

I removed this obvious piece of vandalism from the opening paragraph about his second marriage ...*... --- Drew Suiko 30 January 2007 11:22 EST

* While the Talk page is the place to discuss questions of vandalism to the related Mainspace page, there is no justifiable reason to cite blatant vulgarity here verbatim when it is, as you say, an "obvious piece of vandalism". Two editors have objected to that explicit citation's presence here, so I have removed it. Interested readers may find the content in the page's edit history predating the above comment. -- Deborahjay (talk) 16:41, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I object to the use of the V word. Especially on an academic site. Especially on a page about Germanic peoples!112.198.98.30 (talk) 13:42, 29 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

incorrect link... edit

After reading the Wiki on Frederick the Great, I clicked on the link of his successor, his nephew, Frederick William II of Prussia. I then clicked the link of his consort (wife) and it sent me to Frederick the Great's wife instead. Their names are similar but if you look at their birthdays - it is obvious that the links are incorrect.

At the beginning of the 2nd paragragh of Frederick William II's bio section, the correct link is reached when you click on the naming of his wife.

Just an FYI

nickname edit

The german article leads with his popular nickname "the fat good-for-nothing". This is not mentioned here. should it be? Coughinink 02:53, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

p.s. perhaps it is not necessary to repeat deleted vandalism in such explicit and extensive detail.

Bigamy edit

The article states that he married while already married. Why was he allwoed to commit bigamy? What was the contemporary reactions? --Aciram (talk) 20:51, 19 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wrong Name edit

Why is his name listed in an English equivalent first, and then German in parentheses, almost like the original is English? Can someone fix his name please? 112.198.98.30 (talk) 15:19, 29 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Jeez Louise, this again. If you'd care to look at the German Wikipedia, that is exactly how it is done with British monarchs there. Zwerg Nase (talk) 15:38, 29 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
But British Royals are German...112.198.98.30 (talk) 17:35, 29 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
I agree. Translating German names into English is offensive and tantamount to cultural genocide. I am glad they have the original German names listed in parentheses. However, the article's title is clearly wrong. And this IS the place to discuss it! How do we report people like you committing vandalism?2001:558:6012:5A:565:ABEA:FCDE:5BBD (talk) 19:28, 6 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Here we have a couple of German-speakers trying to change the way English-speakers write their own language and then complaining about "cultural genocide"! Didn't these guys study any history at school? And don't they read their German newspapers? If they had they would have come across characters like Konfuzius, Johannes Paul II, Philipp V. von Anjou, Wilhelm der Eroberer, Jakob I König von England, all Germanicised names (and of course there are lots of others). It would be interesting to know whether these complainers also go onto the German Wikipedia and complain bitterly about Germanic “cultural genocide” in similar cases. Or are they just too obtuse to see it cuts both ways?METRANGOLO1 (talk) 08:58, 3 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

As Goering didn't say, "When I hear someone speak of cultural genocide I reach for my pistol!" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.15.39.58 (talk) 05:02, 21 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Was he a Rosicrucian? edit

He is included in the Rosicrucians category, but that doesn't appear anywhere the article. Are there good sources on his involvement, and which of the many Rosicrucian Orders he may have belonged to? AnandaBliss (talk) 17:39, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
