I now see that people have flooded the edit request for changes and the tempers are quite high; given that, I think this addition -- on a new line in the section regarding his career after serving as Governor General -- is fair and unbiased:
Amid fierce criticism by opposition parties regarding Johnston's appointment as special rapporteur, citing Johnston's relationship with the Trudeau family and the Trudeau Foundation as constituting a conflict of interest, Johnston submitted a letter of resignation on June 9, 2023.[1]Keithshep (talk) 23:04, 9 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

– Very common name (20+ entries at the disambiguation page) and I don't think the GG is the primary topic. On pageviews, David A. Johnston is a clear number one, averaging more than double the views of the governor-general; given both are not "in the news" I think this trend is likely to persist. In addition, two others David Johnston (the British politician and the Australian admiral) have surpassed the governor-general on certain days within the past few months.
In terms of historical significance, I don't see a strong argument for the GG's primacy either – while the office he held is significant, I'm not sure it's more significant than any of those held by the other David Johnstons, as evidenced by the lack of standalone biographies / academic works as per the source list in his article. Support per nomination and Crouch, Swale. This is indeed a common name, which includes the 27 notable men listed upon the David Johnston (disambiguation) page. Ultimately, there is no indication that the renown of the former Governor General remains at such a level that it exceeds the combined notability of the remaining 26 men. —Roman Spinner(talk • contribs)23:19, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Support. His name is far, far too common to anoint him as permanent primary topic over all 26 other people listed on the dab page. He'd certainly still be the primary topic for Canadians, but not for most of the rest of the world, especially now that two other David Johnstons (neither of whose articles, to be fair, even existed yet when this was first created at this title) have overtaken him in recent newsworthiness.
