Date of assumption of office.

edit

Surly she is already an MP. See List of United Kingdom MPs with the shortest service, which includes people who have become MPs posthumously, served a single day, or died in prison, none of which took the oath or sat in parliament. However is the date 23 (close of poll), or 24 which the result is declared by the returning officer. Martin451 (talk) 13:14, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think they're all listed by polling date (except for unusual delays such as 1945) even though very few seats declare by midnight. Timrollpickering (talk) 13:20, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
The precedent on Wikipedia has MPs assuming office on the day of their election. This includes MPs elected in general elections where most results are declared after the day of the election. --Philip Stevens (talk) 13:29, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

If Rohrflote is the same person as this ip then I get the impression he was editing from the US where I know the system of election and assuming office is slightly different. If that is the case then I understand why he was changing the article and apologise for not assuming as much good faith as I perhaps should have done. But he should have been less confrontational. Still, all sorted out now and nothing's broken. TheRetroGuy (talk) 14:39, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Religion/Atheism

edit

I notice someone has added Religion = Atheism to the infobox. Shouldn't that really remain empty since atheism isn't actually a religion, but a rejection of religious belief? TheRetroGuy (talk) 12:14, 13 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

So someone added None (Atheism). Both of these are more of a religious stance than a religion. For example, Nicholas Humphrey's biography lists his religious stance. Not sure what to do here. Perhaps the infobox should be modified to include a religious stance header. Any ideas? TheRetroGuy (talk) 20:13, 13 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
This appears to be a problem with loads of infoboxes across Wikipedia biographics where the subject is agnostic or non-religious. See Talk:David Miliband#Religion in infobox. Donama (talk) 04:55, 30 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Self-description as a Socialist

edit

I've just removed an edit quoting a claim of hers that she has "acted more like a Socialist than a Conservative". Since that's her opinion rather than the observation of someone else, I don't think we can use it unless it were to be discussed in third party sources. This is Paul (talk) 22:18, 30 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

I concur. Unless and until reliable sources discuss this, it is - albeit interesting - original research. Per policy, "Secondary or tertiary sources are needed to establish the topic's notability and to avoid novel interpretations of primary sources. All interpretive claims, analyses, or synthetic claims about primary sources must be referenced to a secondary source, rather than to an original analysis of the primary-source material by Wikipedia editors." Particularly on a BLP. Keri (talk) 09:04, 31 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
There is now a mention in the Eastern Daily Press, “If this is socialism I’ll eat my hat” - Conservative candidate’s campaign leaflet prompts mock-up. Haven't read it properly yet, as I am just fixing format errors and deadlinks on the article. Keri (talk) 09:45, 31 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Received coverage in The Independent, the East Anglian presses, and a couple of other nationals. Keri (talk) 10:27, 31 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Request for Comments

edit

There is an RfC on the question of using "Religion: None" vs. "Religion: None (atheist)" in the infobox on this and other similar pages.

The RfC is at Template talk:Infobox person#RfC: Religion infobox entries for individuals that have no religion.

Please help us determine consensus on this issue. --Guy Macon (talk) 05:37, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Husbands comments of covid 19

edit

McFadzean claimed that Coronavirus disease 2019 was a hoax it was widely reported in the UK media. As such it is appropriate for the personal life section. --DoctorAB (talk) 15:31, 6 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

I think this is WP:UNDUE. The article is about Chloe Smith, not her husband. This doesn't seem to be a notable enough comment to warrant inclusion. — Czello 15:56, 6 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Personally feel it is appropriate in the personal life section. She is a Minister and had to make her own position clear to comments from her husband --DoctorAB (talk) 21:39, 6 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Again though, inclusion I think is a case of WP:UNDUE weight. Is there any evidence of notability to the extent this needs to be included? It seems to be a very minor incident with little controversy associated with it. — Czello 10:18, 7 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Minister for the Constitution

edit

"Chloe Smith Minister of the Constitution" (5 December 2018)

We have a photograph of Smith with a namecard reading "Chloe Smith Minister of the Constitution". We do not mention this job title. The picture is from the Foreign Office's Flickr account,[1] and was taken at the Overseas Territories Joint Ministerial Council on 5 December 2018, so they should have got her job title right. At that date we say she was a Parliamentary Secretary for the Cabinet Office, before she was appointed Minister of State for the Constitution and Devolution. The job title is supported by a blog posting by Smith on 13 November 2018.[2] Our Cabinet Office article lists her as 'Minister of State for the Constitution and Devolution'. Please clarify her job titles and update the article accordingly. Verbcatcher (talk) 20:27, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
