100 years old
editToday, I removed this post from the article:
- As of the dated of this posting December 16, 2006, Barbara Kent is 100 years old! Happy Birthday Miss Kent! (diff)
As this better fits for the talk page. Happy birthday from me as well. --Ligulem 16:22, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
Assessment
editI have assessed this as Start Class, as it contains more detail and organization than would be expected of a Stub, and of low importance, as I do not feel that many people outside of those interested in classic movies would be familiar with the subject of the article. A free image
editI have a free image of Barbara Kent, but I do not know what the proper labeling for it would be. Here's the information: It's from http://www.archive.org/details/oliver_twist , a public domain film, and is screenshotted from the said URL(cropped to only include the picture of Kent). What would be the right way to label the image? (I'll upload when I know) --RandomOrca2 (talk) 22:41, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hey RO2, the image tag that you want to use when you upload it can be found here. Be sure to also provide the link to the source that you provided above on the image's summary page. If something is wrong, I can easily clean up the image summary page myself. Cheers, CP 02:03, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, I added the picture now. --RandomOrca2 (talk) 02:14, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Do we have an recent material to indicate that this person is still alive? The first ref. has a small "copyright 2008" notice on the bottom, but are we sure it was written then? PatGallacher (talk) 17:16, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
[1],[2], [3]. 60 seconds to find three sources. Cheers, CP 17:26, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure this clinches the argument. See my comments above for the first ref.. See my comments on John Kenley for the second ref.. Can we treat the IMDB, the third ref., as reliable for these purposes? PatGallacher (talk) 17:36, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- There are dozens upon dozens of "unreliable" sites that list her as alive, but I do not think that it's very reasonable at all to conjecture that she may be deceased, unless it happened within the past few weeks. Simply put, if three even unreliable sources list her as alive, then WP:BLP insists that we do the same. Cheers, CP 17:43, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure if I count as a "reliable source", but I'm a distant relative of hers and I can assure you that she is very much still alive.--62.64.178.124 (talk) 14:56, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Original name is not Klowtmann, it is Cloutman
editPlease note that her name was never Klowtmann. I have verification from news paper articles, from a deceased friend of Barbara Kent's that went to school with her. News papers are from when she was in the 1925 Hollywood beauty contest and several papers listing her original name Barbara Cloutman and changing it to Barbara Kent (Kent is her mothers maiden name). However, the best evidence is listed in the historical book of the small town of Gadsby Canada. The book talks about Barbara Kent the movie star and her family and the last name she and her family was only known as Cloutman. Please see the following site and do a search on Kent, Cloutman and Klowtmann, and you will see that everything indicates last name is in fact Cloutman in way of spelling. http://www.nosracines.ca/e/page.aspx?id=879528. The Wikipedia article says that her last film was "Under Age" in 1941, but I believe this is in error. Another actress Barbara Heussenstamm went by Barbara Kent. Barbara Cloutman retired from the screen in 1935 see http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1752551/maindetails Scmckinney (talk) 02:59, 10 July 2013 (UTC) However the "Western Clippings" interview has her saying "she kept her finger in the business" with an appearance in "Under Age," so maybe IMDB is wrong. http://www.westernclippings.com/interview/barbarakent_interview.shtml Scmckinney (talk) 03:08, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
Dead or alive?
editSince nobody seems to know where she is living, and under what name she is going by. Do we really know if she is still alive or not. Is there a family member that can speak up and at least say yes she is still alive and will let the media know when she passes? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.3.10.2 (talk) 21:42, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- I am a family member and can confirm that yes, she is very much alive. She's a very private person so I'm not going to say much more than that. It's not my place to let the media know when she passes - there are family members closer to her than I - but I'm sure someone will spread the word. As I said, however, I can confirm that she's alive.Juicebox1 (talk) 11:50, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Residences
editHave cleared up some factual inaccuracies (she actually moved to California after living in Idaho for a while). More updates to come.Juicebox1 (talk) 17:32, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
Eddington or Edington?
editi just want to note that i support the citation needed tag placed on this:
During a one-year hiatus, Eddington groomed Kent for what he intended to be a high-profile career; however by the time she returned to films, her popularity had waned and she was unable to establish herself again. She made her final film in 1935.[citation needed]
and to note that i believe that every claim in that sentence needs some support. i'm suspicious since originally the year of her marriage was wrong by two whole years, and eddington's name was spelled wrong.— alf.laylah.wa.laylah (talk) 21:33, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
- argh, nevermind! i see that it's spelled edington in the obits, and eddington in the 1932 announcement of her marriage. now i don't know what to do. i'm going to change it back to one "d", since i assume that the family had some input into the obits.— alf.laylah.wa.laylah (talk) 21:39, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
barbara kent on broadway
editdoes anyone know whether this barbara kent is the same as the one who was in a few plays on broadway, one with tallulah bankhead, in the 40s?— alf.laylah.wa.laylah (talk) 15:20, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- I doubt that tremendously. Quis separabit? 20:05, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
1906 or 1907
editI know her year of birth was given as 1906 for the longest but her New York Times obituary confidently asserts she was born in 1907, acknowledging that for many years the year was given as 1906. Unless someone can prove otherwise with a valid source, I suggest we leave it at that. So, she was 17 not 18 when she began her silent film career. Not a big deal. Extended family
editI've purged the bit about her extended family (it listed some (but not all) of her surviving relatives) as they are not, unless it can be proved otherwise, notable people and it was essentially just a paragraph of names, most likely put there for vanity reasons - going against Wikipedia's guidelines.
