Conflict of Interest edit

I'd just like to bring to everyone's attention the conflict of interest of having someone clearly affiliated with AAUW, i.e. User:Aauwed, so actively involved in the editing of the article.--Sludge 15:11, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

No Criticism Section? edit

This group has no scientific credibility and nothing is said about it? Somebody is not doing their job. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.27.26.39 (talk) 17:43, 23 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

THIS ORGANIZATION IS A SHAM, THEY SHOULD PRACTICE WHAT THEY CLAIM TO PREACH: ==

To all of the members of the AAUW, I am a great champion for the fight for women's rights and am against the oppression of any woman of any age. I received a letter from your org. not two months ago in which I was asked to participate in with a long and lengthy survey. It quoted statisics about so many women's issues of today. I immediatley started grabbing pen in order to place my opinion on, with the promise that my opinions were welcome and would be sent along to Congress in the hopes that the laws would and could be changed with the answers to my personal comments. It took a great deal of time and some true comtemplation in order for me to make my comments thinking that these were going to be read and counted as the opinions of women. To my utter disbelief and utter dismay, I found out that at the end of the survey I was asked to join the organization with a small donation. Well this didn't bother me but what I read afterwards was devastating! It would seem in order for my opinion to count I had to be a member of this organization and I could only be a member if I were a graduate of a university! Now I have no problem not becoming a member, I am not in the habit of going where I am not wanted! But when you tell me, a woman who has been sexually harrassed on more than several occasions and had friends with the same problems who had near nervous breakdowns because they were decent wives and mother's who refused the advances of their bosses. Women who lost their jobs because they refused and had chosen the high road in life that their opinions were of no interest to you, well I thought that this was the worst form of discrimination I had ever encountered! In all of your questions you used statistics of women of all ages, nationalities, religions and race and I don't think you only used women only with a university eduacation, did you? However you, who claim to be representing all women, to help them all with sexual discrimination ETC. How on earth can you achieve that without the voices of all women who live in this country!!!! That my survey comments, which I had spent more than two hours reading and studying over, that my answers to your org. were not welcome without being a graduate of some stupid university! Well that was the limit. I was so anxious to voice what prejudices I and those throughout my life time have endured as a women.

You were claiming to be representing all women! You used the statistics from the entire population of all women in this country! Why your organization is the perfect example of why women in this country will never get the recognition they so deserve. That is they discriminate against their own sex more than anyone else! If you ask me yours is a perfect example of what is hindering the betterment of women's rights in this country. It is women like you! Have we come so far, really? No and the reason is because we are not at all like men. If we were we would all stick together and not judge each other by how many letters come after our names etc.! Did all of the greatest women in history have university degrees? Did all of the men? Hell no! But I am willing to bet that the women of yester-year would be ashamed of your organization. They are probably crawling in there graves crying out from the heaven's and the universe, we are all the same sex and therefore all suffer the same injustices!!! When you gathered your statistics did you ask for what degree these women had? Of course not, but to get my voice heard in Congress you are saying I need to have at the very least a bachelor's degree! In other words you are saying my voice isn't worth hearing that I am not an educated enough for your org. to care for my opinion or for some reason your org. doesn't care about the women I fall under, a College drop out! I was in the Honor Society in High School, I ran for secretary, I applied and was accepted to three out of three of my choices for a university education! It was my sibling who disuaded me based on her personal opinion of me.She was six years my senior, never dated, considered a bookworm but in reality was Gay and I grew up being told that her opinion was the only opinion that counted for something. Of course her true opinion was she didn't want me to go places and I trusted her judgement of me, naive fool that I was at that time. I had no other role models. Little did I know that it was hearsay and rivalry that formed her decisions! Another example of our sex beating up our own sex! Had I an older brother I trust he would have loved me and wanted me to achieve every goal and dream I had in life instead of listening to me say I wanted to become a psychologist and she answering that I didn't have what it took. I trusted her. She advised me to go to a junior college, I hated it. I was smarter, more accomplished, she told me don't soar to become a psychologist, it's beyond you but maybe a legal secretary! My mother told me to listen to her she had the benefit of her experience. She had gone to a university, what did she advise? Give up and give in, know your limitations and go to a junior college. I hated it and when my posessive boyfriend begged me to drop out and my father was only forced to pay for my education because of a divorce settelement and gave me no encouragement because he loved his money more than his daughters I finally did. And now all these years later I get this letter and I want to scream from the highest mountains I do count for something! I have always had brains and always been a smart woman! But you, you are of the sort that my sister was, going against her own sex. Your group reminds me of a bunch of Phyllis Schlaffly's, in that she was a senator of some disintiction that tore at the ERA, saying a woman's place is in the home! She went on one talk show after another telling women there place was in the home! I wanted to scream at her why won't you go home and cook for your husband you bought off right wing fool. Why should'nt a any woman get the same pay for the same work? Men walk out on there wives all of the time and now its worse than ever because of the inventions of men for sexual purposes! How many women are smart as hell and were the woman behind the man, as they say. Would you have told Nancy Reagan, who was responsible for President Reagan even running, FOR GOVERNER and then for President that she was of no consequence after all she was only a stupid actress with a small career at best would you tell her she wasn't good enough to be in your elite AAUW? She only became the First Lady and who was she? MOMMY, that's who!I wouldn't count her as my ideal example by no stretch of the imagination but I think even you now can see what I feel about your organization. Get off your high horses, the women who suffer the most degrading sorts of discrimination, are the women who are without benefit of a higher education. Even if they are working as a plumber they should still have equal rights as a man and the same chances for advancement as any man in any organization! Now more than ever the woman in the job place that even now, is on her knees or out of a job, because we just can't unite and we are ourselves responsible, that is what I find the most reprehensible of all. It disgusts me that you claim you are an organization that is trying to achieve the rights of women! Do only higher educated women count? Is that where you managed to get all of your statistics? Damn you for your conceit! Do you think that men do this to each other? Never! They have their clubs where one has a crony who has a friend and he represents another friend and that one helps this one in whatever he wants. EDUCATED OR NOT! YOU SHOULD ALL BE SO ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES! Signed Disrespectfully, Deborah D. Simons — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.50.58.250 (talk) 12:34, 27 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Reverted Sommers comment edit

I reverted the following item:

Dissident feminist Christina Hoff Sommers criticizes the ASSUW for being political and ideological, by exaggerating if not fabricating the self-esteem problems girls faced in the early 90's.

for two reasons, WP:NPOV and it seems like a lone provocative comment without context. Perhaps more information could be added about the issues the AAUW raised in the 1990s. I am having a hard time believing that the organization "exaggerated" and "fabricated" issues faced by girls / women, but perhaps more information will clarify the provocative statement.--CaroleHenson (talk) 23:22, 11 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
