Talk:Adaptations of Les Misérables

Untitled edit

Hi all, as discussed [here], we want to take Les Misérables to GA. One of the things that we deemed necessary was to split the adaptations section to its own article, Adaptations of Les Misérables.

So this is what I've done:

  • I created the new article
  • I took the content of the section over to the new article
  • I wrote a summary for the original section
  • I added an image highlighting one of the most famous adaptations
  • I wrote a first version of the lead of the new article. This lead will definitely need expansion.
  • I added to the new article all the images from the adaptations that, for obvious reasons, we couldn't add when the section was still part of the main article

If there are any issues, problems, or anything I missed, please let me know. Azylber (talk) 10:46, 28 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

The link for the ArmJoe 2D fighter game is broken, but I've been unable to fix it. Brauden (talk) 21:04, 10 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Use of bold in opening sentence edit

What's wrong with this opening sentence?

Victor Hugo's novel Les Misérables has been the subject of many adaptations in various media since its original publication in 1862.
  • The title of the novel needs to be italicized. That's a clear rule. Like this:
Victor Hugo's novel Les Misérables has been the subject of many adaptations in various media since its original publication in 1862.
  • We are *not* supposed to use wikilinks in the material we bold as the entry's name. That's another straightforward rule. Therefore:
Victor Hugo's novel Les Misérables has been the subject of many adaptations in various media since its original publication in 1862.
  • The use of bold to match the entry "Adaptations of Les Misérables" is optional and depends on whether or not the phrase or a close approximation of the phrase appears in the opening. In this case, the phrase is both broken and the words do not appear in the same order as they do in the entry's name. This is a judgment call, but this:
Victor Hugo's novel Les Misérables has been the subject of many adaptations in various media since its original publication in 1862.
  • seems far better than having just the words "Les Misérables" and "adaptations" in bold, separated by 6 words *and* without the wikilinks that are quite useful here, especially linking the title of the novel. The wikilink for adaptations, on the other hand, is poor. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 23:52, 20 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for taking the time to explain all this. I am ok with the current version as you've made it now. I thought it was necessary to bold everything from the lead sentence that is contained in the article title, not because I've actually read the rules (which I haven't) but because I've seen so many articles that seem to follow that convention. I think it's fine now. Azylber (talk) 05:46, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

1989 Vietnamese movie(s) edit

As far as I can tell the two movies listed there are indeed the same movie. A youtube upload lists one Hồ Ngọc Xum as director and Việt Linh as a screenwriter. Could someone who actually speaks Vietnamese confirm this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.5.76.225 (talk) 16:55, 17 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Aa mujo (1964) edit

I originally added this movie (a few years ago) based on its inclusion in the list of Les misérables adaptations found in the Japanese wikipedia (with Yamagata Isao as the main character). Recently, I found that this movie is now missing from the Japanese wikipedia list. Trying to google it results only in wiki clones. Does this movie actually exist? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.191.228.21 (talk) 11:20, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Adaptations of adaptations edit

There are reliable sources that say The Fugitive is a loose adaptation of Les Misérables... but listing adaptations of The Fugitive too? Adaptations of adaptations should not be included. Bright☀ 18:55, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
