Miss Minutes (voiced by Tara Strong[1]) is the animated mascot of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe television series Loki. She takes the appearance of a female anthropomorphic clock with a southern accent.[2][3] In the episode "For All Time. Always.", Miss Minutes reveals that she works for "He Who Remains" at the Citadel at the End of Time, with head writer Michael Waldron calling her transition to being evil "really scary".[4] Upon the release of a poster featuring Miss Minutes in anticipation for the season, commentators believed that the character would be especially popular among viewers, drawing comparisons to Grogu.[5][6] She made her comics debut in December 2021.[7]

Development and design edit

Her design was inspired by Felix the Cat as well as other cartoon characters from the early 20th century, with Loki season one director Kate Herron calling her a "Roger Rabbit kind of character".[8] Her introductory informational video from the episode "Glorious Purpose" was inspired by Mr. DNA from Jurassic Park as well as public service announcements from various eras.[9][10] Other animation inspirations include Magic Highway U.S.A., Your Safety First,[11] Wonderful World of Disney,[12] works by Ward Kimball and United Productions of America, as well as Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century.[13] Alternate designs for the character created during the production of Loki include one similar to Cogsworth from Beauty and the Beast.[14]

Appearances edit

Creation and Working with He Who Remains edit

Miss Minutes was originally created by He Who Remains to be a companion to play chess with sometime during or before the Multiversal War. During this time, her artificial intelligence grew more complex and she she started to both develop a personality and a romantic appreciation for He Who Remains. When told to erase Ravonna's and everyone else's memories of the time period of the war, she at first questioned the need for such an action before performing it.

Assisting the TVA edit

Seeing Loki and Sylvie at the Citadel edit

Siding with Ravonna edit

Following the death of He Who Remains, Miss Minutes allies with Renslayer to commit He Who Remains' plan to restore power to one of its variants, Victor Timely. First, in 1863, they give Timely a TVA manual and then, in 1893, they recruit Timely to bring it to the TVA. Going to Timely's laboratory, Miss Minutes convinces him to betray Renslayer. Already in the laboratory, he confesses his love and resentment for not having a body.
