  • Comment: Is there a reason the "awards and nominations" section of this couldn't just be copied and pasted into Ponniyin Selvan: I? That seems to be what I see most of the time. LittlePuppers (talk) 18:05, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

  1. ^ Certain award groups do not simply award one winner. They recognize several different recipients, have runners-up, and have third place. Since this is a specific recognition and is different from losing an award, runner-up mentions are considered wins in this award tally. For simplification and to avoid errors, each award in this list has been presumed to have had a prior nomination.

Ponniyin Selvan: I (transl. The Son of Ponni), also known as PS-I is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language historical action drama film directed by Mani Ratnam, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan. Produced by Ratnam and Subaskaran Allirajah under Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, it is the first of two cinematic parts based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel, Ponniyin Selvan,[1] and features an ensemble cast led by Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and Trisha. The musical score is composed by A. R. Rahman, with cinematography handled by Ravi Varman and edited by A. Sreekar Prasad.

The film was theatrically released on 30 September 2022 and was acclaimed by critics with praise for its direction, visuals, music, the performances of the cast members and technical aspects.[2][3] It grossed 450–500 crore worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2022, third-highest-grossing Indian film of 2022 and currently the fifth-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time.[a]

Among its accolades, Ponniyin Selvan: I received six nominations at the 16th Asian Film Awards including Best Film, though not winning any of the awards.[7] At the 11th South Indian International Movie Awards, the film won four out of its seven nominations, including Best Film.[8]
