Hi! Do you have Oslo byleksikon at ready hand? Could you check out a detail about Anton Tschudi's ownership of Økern? When did he buy and sell? Thanks in advance, Geschichte (talk) 16:05, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi! My edition of Oslo byleksikon from 1966 does not have much about Tschudi's role at Økern. The entry on Økern has a section with focus on ownership of the farm until mid 1800s, the building of apartments in the area after World War II (Økernbråten etc), and further plans for business areas which were then not yet finished. The entry on Anton Tschudis vei briefly mentions Tschudi's role in parcelling out the farm, but no date information is given there. The encyclopedia Store Norske Leksikon mentions that smaller houses in the northern part of Økern date from 1910-15 onwards. It might be worth to check whether later editions of Oslo byleksikon contain more details. Oceanh (talk) 08:52, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi, yes, I know, I tracked down that the text stems from edits made 3 1/2 years ago. There is of course also the possibility that the other website has copied text from Wikipedia. I considered asking for your advice on how to handle this, but decided to just remove the problematic text (according to the duplication tool, there also seems to be some problematic text left, in other sections, which I have not taken care of yet). I found it hard to rephrase this particular text, because it contains a large number of technical terms. WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages

Thank you for your recent articles, including Weronika Gawlik, which I read with interest. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject (ex. if it's a biography article, you would use WikiProject Biography; if it's a United States article, you would use WikiProject United States, and so on). You do not have to rate the article if you do not want to, others will do it eventually. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow them to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. For example, WikiProject Poland relies on such templates to generate listings such as Article Alerts, Popular Pages, Quality and Importance Matrix and the Cleanup Listing. Thanks to them, WikiProject members are more easily able to defend your work from deletion, or simply help try to improve it further. Oceanh, I don't mean to pour cold water on your efforts, but some of the DYK hooks you have proposed haven't been particularly inspiring. I'm sure I could have come up with a better hook for bootlegs, such as the occasion "Rubber Dubber" (?) managed to narrowly get busted by some very deft social engineering (making the local police look like chumps) and I was still thinking of something when I got the notification it was on the main page. Similar problems have occured at Template:Did you know nominations/Passenger pigeon and Template:Did you know nominations/Richard Wright (musician), and while Template:Did you know nominations/Oxford Street wasn't problematic per se, it wasn't too hard to find a better ALT. I see a few other people have commented as such on your talk, such as Template:Did you know nominations/Isaac Folorunso Adewole. I'm not sure what advice I can give other than "be creative!" And of course, I will try to avoid nominating your GAs for DYK, if you prefer so. As for your suggestion to "be creative!", my answer is that I can only take what the article already offers. I am quite satisfied with my hooks in November, when four of them attracted >10,000 views, while only two other hooks seems to have reached that limit in November. December was less satisfactory, when of my hooks only Bicycle kick passed 10,000 views (in addition Frank Sinatra and Jean Sibelius attracted many readers, but that was due to the extra fuzz around their anniversaries). I think you've misunderstood - I certainly wasn't proposing you avoid DYK nominating any articles I helped pass GAN, rather I just feel that occasions there are more attention grabbing or quirky things that can sometimes be pulled up. For now, provided I get the notification that the nominations are happening, I'll make a point of seeing what ALTs come to mind, and hopefully you'll see where I'm coming from after a few more examples. That's ok. Sometimes it is hard to find a particularly good hook, but if the article is important or interesting enough, and of good quality, I might still nominate it with a poorer/straightforward hook. Once nominated, the hook can be improved. Those who worked with the article might have something special in mind. Or the reviewer might request a more interesting hook, and hopefully the creator or others can help find a better hook. I haven't seen much from EEng lately, he used to contribute a lot to dyk hooks. I fully support your Women-in-Red initiative, and might help whenever I can, although I prefer continue editing in my own pace, which ideally is "slow'n steady". I understand that you want to concentrate on article creation but in this case we are simply trying to encourage others to write more articles about women. Thank you. I found that a number of freestyle skiers, who were world champion medalists or Olympians, did not have articles, so I created short biographies for several of these. Perfect. I would like to say thank you for taking the effort on adding my articles to the list in August, I know it's quite a lot of work (2 to 4 minutes per entry add up to somewhere between 3 1/2 and 7 hours in total for the month, and although each operation is sort of trivial, it is tiresome for the hand in my experience). I have a bit bad concience for letting you take that burden, as you certainly have lots of other things to do; you do a great job running the WiR project! It was fun though to be there half outside half inside, not as an ordinary contestant, as I generally do not like to take part in competitions. Incorrect information on Wikipedia

The man Kalle Anttila was my great grandfather who happened to have RAISED my father as due to the passing of his mother and his father being into alcohol. If you want proof that he is buried here in Sudbury, I can obtain a photo of his gravestone. Wikipedia is not a primary source, it relies on information from other sources. In this case Anttila's death date and place is taken from the Sports Reference site: Kalle Anttila. I could not access the url at ancestry.ca that you provided, but found this entry at ancestry.com: Kaarle Johan Anttila (see also findagrave: Kaarle Johan Anttila). I also found some further details about the Anttila family on this blog site: Laitasaari. Are we talking about two different persons with the same name, or are there possibly errors in the provided sources? I am not an expert and can not go further into this. I might refer to (and ping) @Canadian Paul: who has specialized on the history of Olympians, including their age and date of deaths: Maybe you can provide some insight here, or discuss the issue further with DorothyIan (any further discussion about Kalle Anttila, if needed, should preferably take place on the article's talk page). Kalle Anttila

I am quite sure this is the same person as when his son ( my grandfather) was still alive, he and my father explained of his accomplishments of Olympic medals in wrestling for Finland after his immigration to Canada. How Kalle’s father had tickets for the titanic, sold them to a rich couple and then came in on the Carpathia. Kalle did do a moderate amount of traveling during the Olympics. Kalles parents then bought a significant amount of land here in the Sudbury region to create a farm (the Anttila farm) to where for 3 generations work was done, Kalle worked there, and stayed fit, got into wrestling. As years went by he married had a family where his daughter Helvi died the day my father was born Nov 1, 1931. The father Alex Laamanen went into alcohol so Kalle raised my father. I have tried to contact User:Canadian Paul, hoping they can take a look at this issue when they have time, in case they have knowledge of Kalle Anttila. The only thing I can say, is that when you want to make changes like this to a biography, which contradict the existing sources (and also wikipedia articles in twelve other wikis), you need to provide solid documentation for the change. You would also need to take the discussion to the article talk page, in order to get input from other editors. My talk page is not "prominent" enough for this discussion. @Geschichte: Thank you for the notification. I am not very familiar with the processes related to "Articles for creation". I just notice that contribution seems to be restricted to a closed group of participants, and they explicitly state, "PLEASE NOTE: Editors whose usernames are not on the list are strongly cautioned not to review AfC submissions." So, obviously, I can not review any drafts as long as I am not listed among the participants.

WP:NSPORTS has recently (December 2018; after discussion in November; I was not involved in or aware of the discussions) got a separate section for Orienteering (athlete, club and event). Whether this extends to Ski orienteering is not clear, but it might be reasonable to treat the four IOF sports (foot orienteering, ski orienteering, mountain bike orienteering, and trail orienteering) equally. The new section in NSPORTS differs somewhat from the more general criteria WP:SPORTSPERSON, which says, "A sportsperson is presumed to be notable if the person has actively participated in a major amateur or professional competition or won a significant honor and so is likely to have received significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject." I have regared the World championships (WOC, Ski-WOC, MTB-WOC, and possibly the "newer" WTOC) and World Games to be among the so-called major competitions. Whether the continental championships should be included, seems to be more disputed; the new Orienteering section in NSPORTS lists medalists at the European championships as "presumed notable", as well as a few other specific qualifying achievements. Most of the O biographies that I have created satisfy both the "old" (general) and "new" (specific) criteria.

Comments to the Draft:Oeyvind Watterdal. The name of the article should be changed to Øyvind Watterdal, if created. His birth date is not verified in the given citation (It says Year of birth: 1987), so according to WP:DOB only birth year should be in the article. I have checked and verified two of the gold medals in relay in E-ch (2018 and 2015), but I can not find the 2014 European Championships relay currently listed in the given source (IOF Eventor). The individual silver medal (sprint 2015) and bronze medal (long 2018) are verified in IOF Eventor, but I can not find the other relay results in Eventor. The draft lacks suggestions of Categories. Incoming links (redlinks) are not present, but his name is mentioned although not linked in 2018 in orienteering, as member of the relay winning team. Regarding media coverage of Watterdal (for WP:GNG as well as more flesh to the article), some are listed below:

Hello Migrant, Thank you for your research. This information is new to me, it might possibly be the same person, but I could not immediately find any "proof" or connection. I found an entry of Jan Flatla (the jurist and diplomat) here: Hvem er hvem? 1994, page 142, born 12 March 1935, cand.jur. from 1962, and career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. But here is nothing about a possible handball career. The reference to the Norwegian Handball Federation lists matches played for the national team, mostly in 1958, but lacks birthdate or birthyear. When Bjartmar Gjerde died, someone - maybe me - copied another entry at 2009 in Norway and changed the birth year, but not the name and profession. It was about time Gjerde got his entry!
