A file deletion dispute

Not sure if this is correct. But you have deleted a page "GSMotorsport" I followed the layout, the information style and the details about this company to mimic the already exsisting page relating to "Demon Tweeks" which is a similar company. I do not understand why the basic information has been deleted with 3 basic links.

A file deletion dispute

Hi,thanks for deleting two of my speedy deletions and I noticed that you cleared the speedy deletions on many others and I see your reasoning for most of them, however one I do not:

File:British Colonies in North America c1750.png is in fact a duplicate of File:British Colonies in North America c1750 v2.png the latter being the one Wikis are using and the former being the one not in use anywhere. They are in same file format and are duplicates with the only difference being the fact that the numbers are in dark red in the one to be deleted and black in the one to keep. Parking Lot

I've resigned myself to just waiting for a nice day when I'm free. This weekend is probably out, though if the weather is nice I might be in West Chester snapping a few odd photos while with my wife. As far as BPOE No. 2, I probably have a picture of the parking lot somewhere - it is surrounded by interesting buildings; but I might as well wait until I can get a GOOD picture of the parking lot (which won't be that long). Wylie School entry

Hi. You added Wylie School to the NRHP Windham County list. You should probably note that it is already listed (correctly) in the New London County list. The NRIS and the NRHP nomination form are in error regarding the county as Voluntown is in New London County. It is also not a border thing as the school is a few miles from the border with Sterling. I think the state of Connecticut is a more authoritative source than the NRHP for what county Voluntown belongs to. The given coordinates and address and property size put it wholly within the town Voluntown. There is no question the property exists only in Voluntown. For some reason, however, the writer of the NRHP form used Windham County as the county instead of New London County. Voluntown did use to be a part of Windham County (until 1881) and maybe for the period of significance of the property, Voluntown was in Windham County. Children's Museum Info

Thanks so much for your note. I'm sorry you won't be able to make it up for the Backstage Pass. I wanted to let you know that we will be having another public event with User:Awadewit and User:Witty lama speaking and leading a workshop with IUPUI museum studies students (and other Indianapolis college students.) While it's geared toward new and prospective Wikipedians (specifically museum studies students), we're opening it up to anyone interested in attending. I'd love to meet you and tell you more about my Children's Museum-Wikipedia project. It will be at the Indianapolis Museum of Art on Tuesday night, November 2 from 6-9pm.

I'd be thrilled if you wanted to become a member of my TCMI project and keep your eye on things as we move toward a content donation to Wikimedia and begin collaborating with various WikiProjects. You can see an overview of the project here. It's still in its beginning stages, so there isn't much action on the page yet. Your involvement would warrant me coordinating another time that you could possibly come up to TCMI in the coming months.

As for TCMI images, this is going to be a major component of what I'm organizing there during my project. You can add requests to this section of the project page. (It's easy to miss at the moment because it hasn't been added to yet.) I will be digging up lots of images in the next weeks and can keep my eye out for anything you want!

To answer your question, surprisingly I'm just coming up on my first Wiki-editing anniversary, so I'm relatively new. I've not coordinated any other Wiki-Meet Ups. My involvement at TCMI is as a museum studies grad student who also appreciates Wikipedia. You should certainly connect with User:Awadewit, as she's down in Bloomington and is coordinating the Campus Ambassador program there.

A major component of my project will be meeting with the various departments in TCMI and digging up published research that they have either come across, or that they have created, for their many subject areas and exhibits. I'll be organizing all of this content and presenting links to it on the project page for WikiProjects to more efficiently use. Whenever possible, TCMI will be posting content to their website as cc-by-sa so that it can be used more easily. I will be at TCMI through May, most likely, so there is still time to frame what content (and what forms of content) will be the most useful for Wikipedia. I strongly disagree with your position, and I'm going to pursue this to the notability noticeboard. I fail to see how being born in a privileged family gives someone notability. There was a speedy deletion template placed on three articles I created, Highlife (Band) / Sleepy Doug Shaw / Best Bless (Album). These articles pertain to an artist that released his record last week and has been garnering national press. I probably should have been doing these in my 'sandbox' but I was aware of some press that was coming out this week (a three page feature in a NYC based weekly paper and a lead review at a major indie music website). As the artist is playing festivals over the next few months I wanted to start these wiki's in order to provide accurate information. I apologize for not getting my citations in order quickly enough but as he performs under various names in a few internationally know bands (including a few with thorough wiki entries) I wanted to get a jump start on differentiating the different projects/roles as people begin to look for information. I do not believe that this is so; I’ve checked the sources and made a note in my edit summary stating that the references were in fact . As the purpose of having a source in the image description is to verify the copyright status of said image, if I am unable to access the source, then I am unable to access information on the copyright. Having sources that no longer exist is, in my opinion, akin to having no sources at all. Could I ask that you please restore the deletion tags I placed on the files? He is not, he was a candidate for Local Council elections (of which there were 753 seats for all the councils), with several candidates per seat.

Golan Heights (Israeli sub-district)

Everything in the history and population sections including almost everything of the lead except for just a couple of unsourced sentences are already in the Golan heights article. Almost the entire article has nothing to do with a "Golan Heights (Israeli sub-district)" the information is about Golan heights in general and is already at that article as linked to above. There is also already an article about the north district: North District (Israel). You don't have to trust me, read the article, and read everything in these four links I provided. I don't know of any special map of the Israeli proclaimed Golan heights district. Thats only a part of it, as I said, almost everything in the article is unrelated to the the administrative sub district but is about the general GH region, if I remove everything about the GH region and only keep the info about the district, it will be an article consisting of two sentences. One of these sentences being that its a sub district - already in both the North District (Israel) article and Golan Heights article, and the other sentence would be about druze population - already in the the GH article. Optimus prime image

File:Optimusprime-classictoy.jpg is a photo of copyrighted 3D art; I changed the original tags to reflect as such [the original uploader has a long history of mislabeling images he's photographed as releasable under GFDL]. Hence the reduction in file size and the CSD tags. It is a non-free image with no fair-use claim and not used in any articles; it should be deleted [just as a few dozen if not hundred of the uploaders other files have been]. --EEMIV (talk) 00:43, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

A copyrighted work -- "art" has a broad meaning beyond simply "statue." Simply taking a photo of a copyrighted design does not make the image fair-use; it is, instead, a derivative work and similarly bound by the rules of WP:NFC. --EEMIV (talk) 00:49, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

As a point of comparison, see e.g. this from the same uploader once he figured out how to properly create a FUR and use images. 'Transformix Engineering' Deletion

Dear Nyttend,

On 9 October 2010 at 14:25 you deleted a page I created, titled Transformix Engineering, citing (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion). As you can probably tell, I am relatively new to contributing to Wikipedia and am seeking your coaching and further justification for the deletion. Please consider the following:

This article was published nearly one year ago in early November 2009. Until your deletion, no cautions or reservations about the content were expressed (to my knowledge). Content was fully cited, factual, and presented without bias to the best of my abilities. I have slowly built on the original article since then as appropriate information became available and as I continued to explore functionality available on Wikipedia. Therefore, I am finding it difficult to accept that the article remained published for almost 1 year, in good standing, before its sudden deletion. If the page drifted from pure fact to a promotional piece, which was not my intention, then I would have much preferred for the offending sentence(s) to be edited or removed instead of deleting the entire article.

If there were early warning signs or tags on the Transformix Engineering article that I missed, then I apologize. I am only prepared to contribute an hour or two per week to Wikipedia because of other obligations. I did not have an opportunity to place a ‘hang on’ tag before the article’s deletion.

Thank you for your note on my talk page and reinstating the Transformix Engineering article.

As for the complementary Peng-Sang Cau page and notability there of... I agree with your comment, in that “not all founders of companies are important”, or at least not important enough to warrant a Wikipedia page. Therefore, my question is: Where is the line drawn in the sand to determine which business leaders are or are not important enough to be given a Wikipedia entry?

In this case, Peng-Sang Cau founded Transformix Engineering 15 years ago and grew the company from nothing to a multi-million dollar business with 75 employees. As President and CEO throughout, she has navigated this engineering and manufacturing company through the recent (and ongoing?) economic recession. Transformix is going through a rapid growth much to Peng-Sang Cau’s credit. Personally, I think this justifies her importance and notability relative to other business leaders who have Wikipedia pages. If this reasoning was not adequately expressed in her page, then I would ask that you re-publish it and allow me to make the appropriate changes.

Again, I am still relatively new to Wikipedia and I would appreciate any guidance that you could provide.

I reverted this edit of yours for several reasons:

• I can't find the exact diff where I got the idea it was better not to link the state and "United States" in an NRHP article lede, but I decided after someone else did it in bulk that it wasn't such a bad idea to leave those unlinked inline per WP:CONTEXT.
  • Naming is one thing; linking another. I believe it was Tony of date-delinking infamy who made those delinks en masse (In any case the state and "U.S." are already linked in the infobox).

Some of us do actually read the applications when they're available (as all of NY's are) and try to write articles that reflect that we have. NRIS presumably uses the term "governing body" because it's a government database and the identity of an owning government body is important in government circles, but that's not the situation for Wikipedia. We already received the email (that's what led me to the article), it just isn't usable yet. Blanking it puts it into the queue at WP:Copyright problems, completely unrelated to speedy deletions. At this point it will stay blanked for a week unless either usable permission comes through or someone rewrites the article so it's no longer a copy of the source; at the end of the week it will either be deleted or stubbed to remove the copyvio if anything's salvageable (or possibly relisted for various reasons). About redirects Greek National Road 2 and Greek National Road 7

I have inserted the deletion template because of an automated message of wikipedia after page moves that says that if a redirect is wrong (not just a typo) then I should mark it for deletion. If you see List of Greek roads, you will notice that the above roads are different from the ones that their articles are redirecting to. All I want to do is to fix this mistake. I had tried some time ago with the Greek National Road 2 again to speedy delete it, but someone again rejected my proposal. Because I don't contribute mainly in the English Wikipedia, and I don't know if there is another process, I want to ask you If you know what should I do. Copyvio query

Hi Nyttend. You just declined three speedies I put on images where the creator had screenshotted a video game published on the BlackBerry and redrawn the images (very badly)(File:Doodle_Powerups.png File:Doodle Monsters.png File:Doodle Platforms.png). The game is copyright to Lima Sky (see here for claim of copyright), the illustrations were created by Elise Gravel - you'll note the page features her copyright claim. I apologise if I did not provide sufficient information in the speedy tag, but there is no way the images I tagged are not derivative works, and the uploader's claim to be the sole creator is simply not correct. I believe he has had the usual problem that because the game is distributed free or can be played for free, he believes that the images can be copied for free. You'll notice that the logo used in the Doodle Jump article (File:Doodle jump icon.png) is used under a fair use claim. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 10:29, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

It said that he'd played with a few different individuals and never explained why anything that he'd done was that impressive. As far as I could see from that article, he's quite the average musician. I'd suggest attempting to prove notability; as long as you provide enough reliable sources (your references, by the way, didn't generally appear to be reliable) to demonstrate notability, I can't imagine that the article would be deleted under A7 grounds — A7 is meant to get rid of articles that neither show importance nor notability, since they would surely be deleted at AFD; it's not meant to get rid of anything that would be kept at AFD. Really? My understanding of the process was as follows: Speedy deletion is meant to weed out obvious spam and other problematic material. That is why it explicitly states notability is not required to pass a speedy delete. On wikipedia, articles require the work of multiple people - thus, to create an article, it may not be the best article, because it's not always the case that a single person can do so - I certainly don't have the time to. Wikipedia is a collaborative effort. This article was only up for a few days - it did not have time to get updated by people with more time and knowledge than me. A great example of an article that went through this process is Darren Barrett. I want to contribute to wikipedia, but I have limited resources, and I contribute in what ways I can. In order for wikipedia to be a true collaborative resource, there needs the be a buffer for articles to pass speedy, but perhaps not pass AfD (or to pass after people become aware of the AfD and improve it). In this case, particularly, I am not capable of finding the sources in Japanese - that's why I created the article. I know that people are weary of creating article - for exactly this reason that they get deleted - and I have created articles in the past and been overjoyed that people have found stuff to contribute to them. The reason for deletion was Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#F7 — invalid fair use policy. Would you be amenable to reviewing your deletion? As I recall, four attempts were made to get the FUR up to standard, by two separate editors. I accept that the argument for inclusion on Hetchins was stronger than for Lugged steel frame construction, but I would welcome any suggestion as how to use it there as well. Directions to covered bridges

I noticed that you removed the driving directions from Smolen–Gulf Bridge per WP:NOTTRAVEL. I wanted to let you know that it appears that all Ashtabula County covered bridge articles (see List of Ashtabula County covered bridges) have directions. I would contact User:Homefryes for his feedback, or at least to let him know your intentions, since it appears that he created all of the articles in question [edit: except for West Liberty Covered Bridge, which I created two days ago] and included the directions on initial creation. I'd be curious to know his rationale.

Categories

In July the governor signed a law renaming 5 colleges in the state. I moved the pages then but am just now getting around to the categories. I have created other categories before nominating each one so they are technically obsolete and nothing is being lost there. Then what do we do for the colleges that have been renamed four or five times (like mine)? I have never seen categories exist for multiple incarnations of the same institution. Besides, keeping one category is usually the normal thing to do. Also, since some colleges have completely renamed themselves all around, having multiple categories might give the impression that multiple institutions have existed. Having worked in these areas before, I might be a bit of a hardliner. Finally, this category only seems to allow for one category per institution in its wording. I looked at the whole length of the river from Honesdale to the Delaware and could not see anything that seemed to me like it was defintely from the canal. I did find the coordinates for the terminus in Honesdale as there is a PHMC Historical Marker there - see here. The coords are "LNG: -75.25555, LAT: 41.57222". Since the other terminus in Pennsylvania was the aqueduct and the coordinates I gave for that are from the eastern end in PA, I think that gives you two coords, one for each county. Does that work? Before you assume my information is incorrect, why don't you do the research for yourself.

For Pike township, read up on township's history [9]. This is an official source, straight from the government's historical society and government trustees. For North Industry, you can follow that it is part of Canton Township, which if you read that article, you will find all students of that township all attend the Canton Local School District. If that's still not enough proof to fit your linear line of thinking around, let's look at a map. There was even at one time a school in Canton Local named North Industry School.

Wikipedia (both article space and your user page) are not a web host--you cannot use any part of Wikipedia to keep personal information about yourself or business your are involved in. There are many other internet sites, even free ones, that do allow this. Wikipedia articlespace is for encyclopedic level articles about notable subjects; userpages are only to provide very brief information about yourself and to provide info about your activities on Wikipedia. Why did I bother to improve Wikipedia by making article with above title when you deleted it without reason? The only sentence which describes the subject is properly referenced by reliable source. Moreover, please see similar articles, like, for example, University of Zagreb Faculty of Geodesy, which is rated as a Start-Class on a project WikiProject Croatia (without references). Providing the basic info on my institution should not be discouraged, but, on the contrary, sfhould be encouraged like similar articles. I've found that a lot of dead links to newspaper stories are the result of the paper's reconfiguring its website—the story's still in there, but its URL has been changed. A link to the paper's main page makes it easier for the interested reader to search the archive and try to find the lost story.

This doesn't just apply to newspapers. When I cite an article at, for example, the Nebraska State Historical Society's website, I follow the article-specific link with one to the NSHS's main page.

Yes that is the phase, I can scan the page for you if you like. In England (and Australia) an "Old Woman" is someone who worries too much. While initially referred just to old women it came to mean anyone. So by saying "Old women of both sexes" Fingleton was pointing out that it wasn't old women who were worrying about this but the "Old Women" in politics and the press. Actually, "Old women of both sexes" became a common phase in the 1950s-1980s, and is refered to in Yes, Minister, joking about the number of old men in the cabinet - even though most of them were "Old Women". Printed local histories?

I'm sure that there are such printed histories, although I haven't used them myself. Many counties and towns in Nebraska have centennial histories or the like; but I suspect that most of them are out of print, were produced in very small numbers, and can now only be found locally or at the Nebraska State Historical Society.

You might find it worth checking the historic-buildings surveys conducted by the NSHS for the two counties: Nuckolls and Webster. Each of these includes a brief history of the county and of the towns in it (an invaluable resource, if you're trying to find something online about, say, Tamora, Nebraska); and after the histories, there're lists of references. In there, I find The Wonderful Years: A History of Nuckolls County, Nebraska, 1871-1971. It was published by the Superior Express, so was probably only available locally. There's also a Webster County: Visions of the Past by Mabel Cooper-Skjelver; a quick check shows that Amazon will sell you a copy, if you've got $185 burning a hole in your pocket.

Apart from that, I can't suggest much. For what it's worth, you might be able to find something about Webster County in works dealing with Willa Cather, who grew up in Red Cloud.

Is this a long-term project? I don't anticipate being in either county in the very near future, but I'd be glad to look in the local libraries the next time I find myself in that part of the state.

I am a Wiki editor newbie, being at it less than a month and did not know I was stepping on anybody's toes. I have no plans on getting into an edit war and will leave your revert at Linn County, Iowa alone. But I feel the need to point out the only thing I removed was a nonfunctioning reference web link, personally the more 404 error messages we can get rid of the better. I added the Expand section template as a place marker for myself as I plan on going back to find a usable reference and expand the subject. You may or may not noticed the 2 External links I added about the history of Linn County. Both should stay on the web indefinitely as they are scanned books from the Library of Congress , not subject to the whims of the county website designer who obviously must of deleted the page the reference was linked to (no fault of yours, mine or Wiki). If you want to be productive, please find a cite worthy reference or even better expand the section from the history sources provided, I would appreciate it. FYI I live in Linn County. That is why I changed the entry to http://iagenweb.org/ringgold/ IAGenWeb Project] History and information for Ringgold County. with the edit summary clearly stating (per MOS "External links should IDENTIFY THE LINK and briefly summarize the website's contents") which I thought stated my reasons clearly and expected you not to change the wording. I just seen you still insisted on reediting it back to http://iagenweb.org/ringgold Ringgold County history and information] exactly your previous wording, not using an undo (why I wonder). Your edit summary (That's what this does; we don't need lots of extraneous information) does not convince me.
After all of this explanation I am asking you to tell me what is the reasoning for your actions, and the reason why you insist on not identifying the link, maybe you can convince me. In my editing of another article when I followed the link to Jackson County, Iowa I came across an in article external link used as a reference in the sub sub-section called Ghost towns. I was going to rectify the situation but when I clicked the link I seen it was another IaGenWeb site. Now I think this is a perfectly legitimate source but you called it dubious in your response to Ringgold County, Iowa. In the Ringgold County situation I decided that the difference of opinion between you and me was not enough to engage in any edit war so I let it be even though I still think you are incorrect not to cite the source per my reasons stated before. However I value the work you have done and the patrolling of counties in a state in which you do not live in. Therefore I am bringing this edit gaff to your attention so you can handle it as you see best. If you have time I would appreciate a synopsis of your solution as I am still learning. FYI since I started 10/23/2010 I have 824 total and 675 Article edits with an average of 6 edits per page of which I estimate 85% is new information and 15% is enhancing or correcting others work, none by bot. TCMI Project

Hello! While I know that you weren't able to attend the Backstage Pass, I wanted to pass along some resources and links from the day. Could you please userfy a copy of the pre-deletion version of List of places in Tasmania by population for me? There are 105 UC/Ls in Tasmania and the previous version missed over 80% (85) of them. This new version is still missing over 75% (79) of them. There has been no addition of references for any of the places mentioned (the sole reference is only a generic reference to census data) and the article still suffers all of the problems listed at the AfD. Nyttend, when you delete a file bacuse it exists on Commons with another name, could you please update any links to the deleted file? Architecture categories by year

Yep, they may or may not be populated but architecture by year is somewhat ambiguous. Concept or design, or finalized design all or which are frequently hard to put an actual date on. There there is the year a building was completed in. Clearly the year a building is completed in is much easier to define and has an unambiguous category name. I did not nominate the 1802 category since the articles about buildings that were completed in a given year are being moved to that category yet. One of the parents for that new category is the architecture by year category. So all of these remain in the current tree. The reason this is not finished is that I'm doing this manually so it will take a while. A few other users are creating these categories and populating them. So this will happen slowly over time. Automation here is risky since the contents in these categories are not reliable. As an example, why is a building that began construction in, for example, 2001, finished construction in 2005 listed in architecture for 2003? Each article needs to be looked at to see it the year used is correct. That is but one of several anomalies you can find going through these categories. about a deleted Ohio NRHP article

Hi Nyttend, i wonder if you could look at the deleted version of William B. Harris House, apparently deleted by editor Herostratus back in 2007, with no reason apparent in what i can see from the outside. Or, i guess the reason was "no context" i.e. an application of "db-nocontext". The article apparently started "Constructed in 1863, the William B. Harris House is an excellent example of Gothic Revival architecture for the period...." which sounds entirely reasonable as a start to an NRHP article, to me. It's an NRHP-listed house in Zanesville, Ohio and i know u've been doing a lot with NRHP in Ohio recently. I came across its having been deleted just in the process of my tidying up Harris House disambiguation page. I haven't checked whether Herostratus is currently active. Could you just restore it? owner objections

I noticed you removed 2 entries from National Register of Historic Places listings in Poughkeepsie, New York with note that those were not actually NRHP-listed due to owner-objection, which i just now restored to a separate section. Then i notice you are making similar changes in other list-articles. Can you please explain what is your source for this / how you are detecting these?

And to consider moving those to a lower section as i did on Poughkeepsie. I assume you have good info and agree that any not finally NRHP-listed should be shown properly. I think there's room for disagreement, though, about whether these are NRHP-related well enough to be included on the list-article pages, like properties actually demolished and delisted are. I do assume you have some good info, but some more needs to be done than just deleting the entries from the NRHP list-articles. For example the Church Building article in Poughkeepsie states flatly: "The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982." Even if it is just temporary, moving the items to a separate section could be useful in helping editors consider whatever is your source, and to address and update those articles. We're not saying the Administrator is not reliable, it's that the email can't verify the information because it doesn't qualify as a reliable source. While we want to be as correct as possible in WP articles, we are more concerned with readers being able to reliably verify statements. While, yes, you or I could contact the City of Andover, we can't write in the article "(please contact the Andover City Administrator to confirm this information)". The above Andover links state only the word Butler County, but no references about Sedgwick county. The following Sedgwick county web page doesn't list Andover as part of their county on the right side of the page. http://www.sedgwickcounty.org/visitors.asp The following Andover document clearly talks about not being able to cover Sedgwick county in the study, because the city is not located in that county. See page 11, section called "legal basis" of http://www.andoverks.com/common/modules/documentcenter2/documentview.asp?DID=33 Andover is not claiming to be part of Sedgwick county, nor is Sedgwick county claiming that Andover is part of it, thus it is pretty darn obvious the census document is wrong. Liu, 1936 Nobel peace prize

Please see the note I left at Talk:Franklin Township, Portage County, Ohio#Establishment. As for Beligium, it depends. Would you use 1776 as the year the United States was established? Most of us do out of tradition, but it's not when independence was recognized nor was it when any type of national government was established, nor even when it was settled by the primary group. How about 1783? 1789? The point is, "established" can be rather ambiguous, especially in cases like this where the various stages of development were established at very different times. What exactly was established? From my experience, most cities do not use the formation of a government (incorporation) as the date they were established; most I've seen use when it was first settled; the formal establishment of a local government followed. "Franklin Township" as a location and political division of a county was long in existence before the township government was formally voted on and organized (for instance, the original settlers of what is now Kent came to what was already known as "Franklin" in 1805; the first name for Kent was "Franklin Mills", and the original 1808 town plat for Ravenna is listed as being in "Franklin Township, Trumbull County"); that's why I objected to using just the 1815 year. --JonRidinger (talk) 07:17, 25 December 2010 (UTC)

Marion County, Kansas

I've been aware of some "Further Reading" issues and was going to ask you after Christmas, but your change kind of pushed the point that I need to say something now.

After you moved the "Reference" section below the "Further Reading" section, the ugly wikipedia warning message about references came up at the bottom of the page. I had references after some of the books. though I have not had a change to back convert the article to reference these books yet. I did a quick fix by substituting individual book lines from User:Sbmeirow/Books eBook page that I've been working on during the last week. I've been working up to doing an overhaul of my book references in my city articles.

The following falls under "BE BOLD" for me.

I'm not sure how to do this cleanly, but I would like to see references added to all the books in the "Further Reading" section, so we then can use them as official references up in the body of the article. The old way of doing things is a big mess: a person would describe each book using a reference higher up in the article, then the books would randomly fall into the middle of a bunch of other ones in the "Reference" section. I know this is the way Wikipedia does things, but this is kind of stupid, since the book references aren't all grouped together. Conceptually, it would make far more sense to put all the books together in some section, add references to them, and then use these references back unp in the article. The easiest solution would be to move the "Further Reading" section above the "References" section, but maybe there is another solution?

I'm not sure how the wikipedia group as a whole feels about it, but I would like to see books in "Further Reading", that are available 100% online, to have external links so wiki authors or readers can EASILY read the book online or download it. Since copyright law states that all books older than 1923 aren't copyrighted, we are seeing mountains of historical books digitized and put online, which provide excellent reference material for large numbers of Wikipedia articles.

Another thought would be to create book templates for each county and state, so they could easily be dropped in each city article. I'm not sure if this would even work, since I've never edited a template. Each of the city articles in Marion County have a common set of books, but then 1 or 2 unique ones added for the city.

I'm asking you or anyone else that is reading this to please think of a better way to do the "Further Reading" so we can make better use of online digitized historical books as references in articles!

Camden, Ohio

I apologize if this is in an incorrect section. You recently removed a section I posted in Camden, Ohio about the water crisis there, saying it was written like a newspaper, instead of an encyclopedia. This is a big event for Camden, and I would argue that it is one of the biggest events they've had in their history; it will forever change the scope of Camden and its government. I don't understand this so called "standard practice". I approach you since you seem experienced so maybe you can explain this to me. Adding someone to a list is claiming something about them. If one claims something about someone one needs a source. Wikipedia itself is not considered a reliable source. So how can an article about someone be considered sufficient? Just to show the fallacy of this practice, the article for Joey Galloway does not bring a source for him being born in Bellaire, nor do the articles for Brickyard Kennedy, Ted Levine, Lance Mehl, Andy Dorris or Ben Taylor (American football). So what this practice amounts to is that one can claim something about a living person, without a source, and say that since the article about the person says it, then it's OK, even though the article itself is completely unsourced, and might in fact be false. Isn't that EXACTLY why the policy exists, to ensure that claims are sourced in the place they are made? Also, shouldn't this practice, which is an exception to the policy, be reached by consensus and added to the policy itself? --Muhandes (talk) 20:11, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Then remove these elements from their articles. Standard practice is a demonstration that consensus already exists about the issue; composing these sections in this way has been done for several years by pretty much everyone who works with US community articles, so it's not as if I'm making it up or doing it in a way done by everyone else. It may be standard practice, but it won't survive FAC without a source in the city article for each notable native mentioned. I had to deal with that getting the Kent, Ohio article through FAC. Every name on the list in the city article, including Kent State University alumni, had to have a source. The reasoning was that each article needs to be able to stand on its own in terms of verifiable information and not rely on another article. So even though every person article was sourced and most of the accompanying list articles were also sourced, that wasn't good enough for the Kent article itself. --JonRidinger (talk) 05:02, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Rather than argue this, I added sources where I could, which I think improves the article anyway. I still can't say I understand a practice in which a fact which is not referenced in an article could be used in another article, and when someone challenges for a source the common practice is to put the burden on the challenger. .9 acres and editorial notes

Regarding your inquiry at User talk:Elkman#Areas of less than an acre please see User talk:Elkman#NRHP places having area of .9 acres, etc.. It turns out that .9 was used as a code in NRIS to indicate "less than one acre". I noticed this when programming a batches-of-articles generator (still under development, but which I'd be happy to run for you for any county or MPS or other defined set of articles u might plan to work on, see example output linked from Talk:List of RHPs in Grand Forks). Since Elkman has now revised the Elkman generator to avoid that problem in future articles, it would indeed be appropriate now to go back and change existing articles where .9 acres are stated, where in fact "less than 1 acre" should be stated instead. Note there are in fact NRIS-listed places specifically with .4 or other acreage less than 1 acre. It is only articles where acreage is specifically indicated as .9 that need to changed.

This could possibly be fixed everywhere by a bot request or by an editor running AWB. Would you? I know u've had success getting bots run before. Maybe it could be combined with a different bot request.

About editorial notes, I noticed ur edit removing editorial notes in the Washington D.C. NRHP list-article. You're right that the editorial notes should be removed, but could you consider letting me know at my Talk, or moving such notes to an article's Talk page, instead of simply deleting them, in future cases? The notes there were good prompts relating to 3 needed good changes which i just implemented (adding specific discussion of Supreme court building; creating redirect and editing the Marine Barracks and Commandant house article; pipelinking to Weaver building instead of to general HUD article).

I appreciate that your edit summary gave a hint as to what u were up to, but I don't always notice your edits this way. A few times i have later found u did that when i was addressing some other problem, which woulda been avoided if the ed. note had been left in or moved to Talk or otherwise better resolved. No deletion discussions, they were speedy deleted today as "CSD F7: Replaceable fair use image". They were tagged on the 28th, deleted today (31st) and re-uploaded again by User:Illegal Operation Here are the deletion logs [11] [12]. Please note that even though the purpose of use say "To convey a visual concept of the new GUI in Windows Phone 7", the images are used in the HTC 7 Trophy and Dell Venue Pro articles to show the phones, not the software, the Windows Phone 7 article already has screenshots to show the UI.
