Proposed deletion of Perri Reavis

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Perri Reavis, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

No indication this person meets Wikipedia's general notability criteria or its notability criteria for people. It technically qualifies for speedy deletion under criteria A7 but there's no harm giving people 5 days to add stuff. I will canvas the Dallas and Radio Wikiprojects for help.

Perri Reavis is a radio personality in Dallas, Texas. As members of a related WikiProject, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 01:07, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:14, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Photo request: SWA HQ in Dallas and AMR HQ in FW

Someone needs to get a photo of the Southwest Airlines headquarters in Dallas and the American Airlines headquarters in Fort Worth. WhisperToMe (talk) 18:00, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I can get the Southwest HQ in Dallas. It will be 1600x1200 from an iPhone 3G, but bonus will be the embedded GPS data. I can export as KMZ as well, which is rather slick. I've been wanting to try this. WhisperToMe asked about AMR, but that is wrong side of town for me. Was there a taker already? Spectre9 (talk) 03:17, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
I don't know of anyone else who agreed to do the AMR headquarters... Anyway, please make sure you get the logo and/or signs in the photo that identify ther buildings as such (i.e. get airline logos or signs saying "corporate headquarters") WhisperToMe (talk) 17:38, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
I took a picture of SWA HQ today. Unfortunately they don't have a logo on the building, only the name itself "SOUTHWEST AIRLINES". Its not cropped and suffers from being taken from a fixed-zoom iPhone, yet it is better than nothing! Photo is stored at <http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Southwest_airlines_hq_from_east_2009-06-22.jpg> Spectre9 (talk) 04:32, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Added another photo, but its rotated 90deg even though it displayed right on my computer... new to this! Anyway, this photo shows the sign on Love field and shows the 'back' side of the building along behind a fence. The sign states:

"SOUTHWEST AIRLINES HEADQUARTERS 2702 LOVE FIELD DRIVE" <http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Southwest_airlines_hq_from_north_2009-06-22.jpg>

I'll flip and re-upload the images - Thank you very much! :) - For future reference you can use Microsoft Windows photo editor or other programs to flip the images rightside up. Now we need the American Airlines/AMR headquarters WhisperToMe (talk) 03:11, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
I flipped one and asked for assistance to correct another. WhisperToMe (talk) 06:06, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
A user on Flickr relicensed his AMR Corporation/AA headquarters image. Now it is at File:AMRHeadquartersFortWorth.jpg - The request has been fulfilled. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:40, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Photo request: Texas Instruments HQ

Someone needs to get the Texas Instruments headquarters. WhisperToMe (talk) 04:22, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

I uploaded a landscape photo from the gate at the Northern part of <the HQ facility. This is on public land. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Texas_instruments_gate3_dallas_tx_usa_2009-08-07.jpg#file>

I'll have to schedule a visit with a friend at TI before I can enter the complex and actually photograph the corporate HQ building and founders Plaza. The current photo probably serves as a better source of the 'corporate logo' however as the other signs are not positioned in good locations for photographs. I'll probably snap some of the DMOS5 South facility as well. Spectre9 (talk) 01:50, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the current photo. Thanks in advance for any additional photos :) WhisperToMe (talk) 05:07, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Is Plano Mall for real?

Is Plano Mall (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) a real place? The article claims that the mall opened in 1988. I lived in Plano from 1990 through 1994, so it's been a long time since I've been in the area, but the only mall I remember from that time was Collin Creek Mall. It also claims that Lord & Taylor was in "Plano Mall" in 1988, but I never remember any Lord & Taylor stores in Plano other than the one in Collin Creek Mall. I doubt that the writer was referring to The Shops at Willow Bend, either, because at that time it was still the Willow Bend Polo & Hunt Club.

I think the article about Plano Mall is a hoax, but I could be wrong. Any thoughts? --Elkman (Elkspeak) 22:52, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

This is about the strangest local entry I've seen. There have only been 2 mainstream malls ever in Plano, Collin Creek and Shops at Willow Bend. Coincidentally, both were home to locations of Lord & Taylor at different times. This definitely gets a vote of removal from me. Awtribute (talk) 21:17, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Question regarding the use of KRLD-TV and Wikipedia redirect

In the Wikipedia article on Fox Television Network, the article correctly stated that KRLD-TV 33 (Dallas) was one of the stations that Fox bought out to form the initial Fox network. However, when you click on the KRLD-TV link in the article, it goes to KDFW. While it is, of course, true that both stations had KRLD calls in the past, my question is why that particular link redirected to KDFW-TV when it should be redirected to KDAF? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sshuffield70 (talkcontribs) 19:29, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Dallas-Fort Worth articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Dallas-Fort Worth articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

William H. Gaston

While working on something else, I was shocked to find that the William H. Gaston biography was a single line that didn't even mention Dallas. I've added a reference to an excellent recent article, chock full of biographical detail, that could be used to expand this article about one of the critical figures in the development of Dallas in the early 20th century. A lot more info is widely available. I'd do it myself but I'm terrible at biographies. - Dravecky (talk) 23:02, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

US Collaboration reactivated & Portal:United States starting next

Casliber recently posted a suggestion on the talk page for WikiProject United States about getting the US Wikipedians Collaboration page going again in an effort to build up articles for GA through FA class. See Wikipedia:U.S. Wikipedians' notice board/USCOTM. After several days of work from him the page is up and ready for action. A few candidates have already been added for you to vote on or you can submit one using the directions provided. If you are looking for inspiration here is a link to the most commonly viewed articles currently under the scope of Wikiproject United States. There are tons of good articles in the various US related projects as well so feel free to submit any article relating to US topics (not just those under the scope of WPUS). This noticeboard is intended for ‘’’All’’’ editors working on US subjects, not just those under WPUS.

The next item I intend to start updating is Portal:United States if anyone is interested in helping. Again this is not specific to WPUS and any help would be greatly appreciated to maximize visibility of US topics. The foundation has already been established its just a matter of updating the content with some new images, biographies and articles. Please let leave a comment on the Portals talk page or let me know if you have any questions or ideas. --Kumioko (talk) 19:06, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Can anyone help? Thanks. I've also put in a request at WP Texas and will do so at commons if no liuck here. Photo un-request

I was recently trolling Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Dallas County, Texas recently and discovered a great many articles have photos. Any interest in doing a backlog drive to see which ones are still "Without Photo". If there's a specific request of photo (i.e. Headquarters building, etc) with an article that has a photo not of the specific item, leave it. I'm going to try and snap photos of the requests that are local to me, so please help me winnow down this list so I'm not driving all over creation. Hasteur (talk) 20:00, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Help Improve Texas Projects and Portals

This is an open invitation to anyone interested in helping to update the information on the various Texas projects and portals. The information is generally out-of-date, sometimes by years. Every little bit helps. Every small improvement adds to the larger whole. Together, we can get the Texas pages to look current and helpful to visitors.

These two Category links will take you to the various pages:

Anyone interested in improving the basic look and structure, could open a WP:RfC. Dialogue is good for the project.

These are areas I see could be improved, in addition to miscellaneous information on the portal and project pages:

  • Participant lists could be divided in to two separate lists: Active, and Inactive participants
  • Task lists that require monitoring, can be somewhat automated by replacing the individual topic items with category page links
  • Eliminate duplication of efforts. Inter-connect the like sections in different pages to a singular template.
As an example, I already updated the Open Tasks on WikiProject Texas, and the Things You Can Do on the Texas portal. These are exactly the same information, but point to two different templates. In a perfect world, these two pages would point to the same template, but they don't - possibly due to page formatting. I updated the templates they point to, so at least the individual items will point to Wiki links that would, in essence, make the list items self-updating. But it would be better if both pointed to only one template.

Discussion to remove the Automatically assessed logic from the WikiProject United States template

Greetings, there is a discussion regarding removal of the logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories from Template:WikiProject United States. Most of the categories (over 220 Wikipedia wide) were deleted in February 2013 because they were empty. These categories were previously populated by a bot that hasn't run since 2011 and the categories aren't used. Removal of this uneeded/unused logic will greatly reduce the size and complexity of the WikiProject United States template. Any comments or questions are encouraged here. Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! WP:VG comments subpages cleanup

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Fort Worth Fire Department

I have been editing and adding information/images on the Fort Worth Fire Departments page. Looking for someone to look over it and maybe make a few edits. Thank you Whiskey5jda (talk) 01:24, 22 May 2017 (UTC)Whiskey5jda 05/21/17 2024

Help with Vianovo?

  Resolved

Hi. I've been asked by the firm Vianovo to request a few updates to their article. I posted a note on the Talk page last month asking for help, but I don't think many editors are watching the Talk page and no one has responded yet. Would anyone here be able to look over the edits I'm proposing and make the changes if they seem OK? As I am working on behalf of Vianovo, I don't want to make any edits myself. Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 20:11, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello, I am continuing work on the Vianovo article in place of my (now former) colleague, User:Heatherer. I am still looking for volunteers to review one or both of the edit requests seen here. I'm happy to respond to any questions or concerns on the article's talk page, or on my user talk page. Thanks for your consideration! Inkian Jason (talk) 18:05, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
The edit requests have been answered, so I am marking this section as resolved. Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 16:18, 20 June 2017 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   10:55, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Adding a section/link to a related article.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:2019_Dallas_tornado We should add a section on the Dallas-Fort Worth article for this tornado and link the 2 articles together. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elijahandskip (talkcontribs) 16:32, 14 November 2019 (UTC)

Reactivate WikiProject Texas?

I have just marked WikiProject Texas as inactive. They have not answered their help talk page since at least August 2018, they are not doing assessments, nor do I detect any other project activity. Anyone interested in breathing life back into the project, please let me know if you have any ideas about how to do this. No need to ping, I have added this page to my watch list.
