Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! A little help would be nice

I created an article for World War III (WWIII) singer Mandy Lion and I would love to get some help to make it better, that is if anyone here knows anything about him that is not already in the article. I hope you can help with this. Thanks, Cra sh U nderride 17:05, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

That's not a bad article- it may be worth writing it up to good article status. After my very brief skim over, I would recommend adding some reliable sources that aren't from Blabbermouth, placing the references in citation templates and removing the embedded external links to Allmusic (though they would make excellent references to add to the article). J Milburn (talk) 17:33, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Infobox

I LOVE the new look, I just resized it down to the MOST COMMON size. That's one of the reasons that people who have multiple boxes can't get their boxes lined up in an orderly fashion. But like I said, I do love the new look, the tan bg was gettin' old. lol Cra sh U nderride 16:16, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

New here - going for Children of Bodom discography

Hi there, fellow metalheads. I am new to the English Wikipedia, having mainly contributed to the Danish one, and only recently been able to recover my long lost password to my account of enwiki. I would like to help out here, and I'm starting with the aforementioned list - I'll pull over stuff from the Danish article, which is FL – looking at that list, is there anything I should be aware of when contributing to the English Wikipedia (apart from that I'll have to write in English of course)? --Lhademmor (talk) 11:05, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Nice work on the Danish article. I think you'll do a fine job here. You might encounter some problems at FLC with the use of block quotes. A few editors seem to think that such block quotes contravene our NPOV policy for some strange reason. I can't read what the block quotes at the Danish article state so I do not know whether they will be a problem. Just letting you know that they might be. --Bardin (talk) 14:16, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
I'd recommend asking Burningclean and Cannibaloki for advice - they're both editors who've penned metal related FLs. LuciferMorgan (talk) 15:17, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Mastodon

Could someone perhaps reassess the Mastodon (band) article, it has undergone significant rewrite since it's first assessment. Thanks. —[DeadEyeArrowTalkContribs] 10:06, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

It needs sources or inline citations if there are sources already. That is the base.--  LYKANTROP  18:16, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Igor Cavalera

Hello! I need to establish a clear consensus on the issue of how to spell Igor Cavalera's name - he has for the past couple of years spelled it as Iggor. However, I saw an editor recently revert a change to Iggor from Igor and, when I asked him to provide evidence of consensus on the issue, all he could say was "It is simple: Iggor is not his name". As far as I'm concerned, this is entirely inadequate. Please go to Talk:Igor Cavalera and leave comments there.--Vox puppet (talkcontribs) 11:53, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Deeds of Flesh

Apparently all the articles relating to the band Deeds of Flesh have been deleted, out of process in fact. It is still archived at Answers.com here.

Can anybody have this stuff undeleted, please? I think they are notable enough to have their own page, and there should at least have been an Afd vote on it first. --Eastlaw (talk) 07:39, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

It wasn't deleted out of process, it was deleted under the speedy deletion criteria. That was a little rough, if you ask me- there is one good source provided, and the links to Unique Leader Records and Erlend Caspersen add a little. I would not personally have speedy deleted that, but I do not feel the article is good enough to restore it myself. However, if you provide me with a few reliable sources, I am willing to restore it- alternatively, try contacting Gwen Gale, the deleting admin. J Milburn (talk) 11:17, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your prompt response. I will continue this discussion on your talk page. --Eastlaw (talk) 14:50, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Deeds of Flesh, redux--Help me improve this page!

Okay everyone--we need all hands on deck for this. As I mentioned above, the Deeds of Flesh article was (unfairly) speedily deleted, until J Milburn was kind enough to restore it for me. Now, I need people here to do whatever they feel is appropriate to improve this page before it is moved back to article namespace. The article is currently in my user space here: User:Eastlaw/Deeds of Flesh.

I mean, come on, Deeds of Flesh has pages in five other languages, but not English?! This is unacceptable, and I call upon all of you to help me change this situation. --Eastlaw (talk) 04:56, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Can someone help Brutal death Metal?

Brutal Death Metal

It needs expansion. And it didn't take my edit of expanding. So someone who knows BDM well, please give a expansive article.

Especially the 'intentionally' bit has got to be re-worded. thanks METALFREAK04 (talk) 16:22, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Influences links

I was wondering if in the tables for the bands a section showing which bands they were influenced by and which bands they influenced, could be added. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.115.82.239 (talk) 05:00, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

I don't understand the question. Perhaps you mean the musical artist infobox? I believe there was such a field in the past, but it has been removed; I may be wrong though. Your best bet would be to raise the issue on the associated talk page. J Milburn (talk) 10:51, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

band logos

I remember a while back just about every metal band's page had their logo shown on it. now they're all gone for some reason. can someone who knows about this please tell me why? cos i think the logos should still be there. Okram 09 (talk) 02:13, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Logos#Band logos. = ∫tc 5th Eye 02:20, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
There has been pretty extensive discussion (there's something in these archives, a lot at FAC, some at the LOGOS talk page...) and the basic consensus is that band logos are generally not as significant as corporate logos. As such, their inclusion can only be justified if the logos themselves have been discussed in reliable sources and therefore discussed in the article. This is consistent with what is written in the non-free content criteria, which is the most important policy that non-free images (such as the vast majority of logos) have to comply with. If you disagree with this, you're welcome to discuss it with us here, but I urge you to familiarise yourself with the non-free content criteria and our guidelines for non-free content first. Featured Sound

There now be a folk metal featured sound:

However, I wasn't able to get the formatting quite right on the front page. Everything to do with sounds is a horrible hack. =/

Anyway! In the admittedly unlikely event that some other metal band has released songs under Creative Commons or a similar free licence - or if you just want to nominate more Balkandji - please nominate them at WP:Featured sound candidates. Zero Hour article

Hey guys,

Can anyone help me with the Zero Hour (band) article? It was deleted previously, but I believe it satisfies the WP:MUSIC guidelines in that a) they're one of the foremost technical metal bands and b) they're on Sensory Records, a label that has also published Riverside, Gordian Knot, Edenbridge, and Redemption. What can I do about the article to keep it from being deleted again? --Daniel Klein (talk) 15:13, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Further to the above, please have a look at the things I've said to the deleting admin here: [1] (I guess this is not how you properly link to talk pages, but I'm not very good with wiki technicalities) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bringa (talkcontribs) 15:45, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
In building a case for the merit of the Zero Hour article, I decided to start the Technical Metal article. Again, I'm really new to active contribution to WP, so all help is very much welcome! --Daniel Klein (talk) 18:21, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Heavy Metal

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Angband (band)

Hello Metalheads, I created an article about Angband, but It was deleted. once the previous creator claimed they are the first metal band from Iran to sign a deal with a European records company but didnt have enough sources, I have many sources like: www.lordsofmetal.nl , www.stormbringer.at , www.localradio.pehzeh.net www.metal-rules.com , www.blabbermouth.net and their album has lots of good feedbacks, I created a page in my sandbox: User:Spada2/Sandbox the question I have: can I create the page not mentioning the first band thing due to their positive feedbacks? And I've been told that someone in the wikipedia Project Music should review the article first.
Thanks in advance--Spada2 (talk) 11:50, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

I've made a few changes in the sandbox, I think I've helped structure it into a decent stub, but I think quite a bit more is going to need to be done to make it a proper article...Arch stanton1138 (talk) 21:36, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Salt the Wound

Salt the Wound (if I am correct) released an album recently and received mainstream sucess this year, there should be an article for Salt the Wound. Y B K

Salt the Wound is not really advised to make an article in my opinion. This is becuase the band is quite young and the artilce will just be another stub, thus another thing wikipedians have to keep on refreshing every minute of a day. I am not saying all young-bands should be excluded, but this band has not really been heard of other than its country (USA). I am European and I never heard this band before, but metalcore is not my genre however. But, all my bands like Abysmal Torment, Defilement, Goratory etc, would not be either here. Even though some of them are 'mainstream' in the sense of that genre. So I would say stick it in a sandbox and set up a good enough article then I would get it approved by an admin Wikipedian to then put it up, or its just gonna end up being deleted again and again...like Corpsefucking Art is. METALFREAK04 (talk) 12:43, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Salt the Wound has gained mainstream sucess this year and they are exeptionally good at pig squeels even better than Job for a Cowboy. I don't know, maybe when they release their second album, but until then, creation of this article should be in order. Also, Salt the Wound is not metalcore, as I read, they are death metal, and they give the sound of unique deathcore so they would be under both genres if I were to pick. -- Y B K 01:29, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

I started crafting the page in my sandbox, does anybody else wanna help? Y B K

Could someone create a page for this band? It's just that Blessed By A Broken Heart has a page and they aren't well known. This band needs a page and a page for their upcoming albumshould come when they think of a title. Dallas Toler-Wade

A vocalist/guitarist of Nile. Recently, his page was put up for deletion. I tried to improve it. What do you think? Is it worth keeping? I sure hope it is. BTC 02:22, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

It sucks that that page was deleted. If he was a member of more musical projects, the page would probably be kept. Well, that's life, though. BTC 20:42, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Does anyone know what happened?

I have been going around wikipedia the last few days, and I can't help but notice that in the infoboxes for bands and albums, the information about the genre is missing! Why is it missing? I checked one of the guideline pages and the infobox information for the genre is missing there too. Why is this? I'll be honest, I don't really like it. BTC 01:38, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

They were deemed useless because they were magnets for edit wars and most contained information that was just plain wrong. Genres must now be referenced from reliable sources (not metal-archives or Allmusic) and they must be described within the main text of the article. The Real Libs-speak politely 01:59, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

I find it disappointing that that had to happen, but I guess I can't do anything about it. I guess the wikipedia board did what they needed to do, though. BTC 20:08, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Indestructible (Disturbed album)

Hello. You might not know me because I have not yet joined this project, I'm a bit of a newbie here. I came here to ask if anyone has magazine articles about Disturbed, especially for the album Indestructible, as the article is currently at FAC and concerns were raised that printed sources are needed for comprehensiveness. If anyone here has such print sources, please help by using them to expand and source the article.--Almax999 07:08, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

I concur. I am the nominator of the aforementioned article into FAC, and any information that could be supplied from magazine, newspaper, even book references would help a lot. I did some digging and I noticed specifically four magazines. I will try and work at tracking these down, in the meantime if somebody else could please step up if they have any of these, or other magazines between February-August 2008 that feature Disturbed, I work be grateful. --The Guy complain edits 19:37, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
I have the Revolver magazine with Disturbed on the cover from 2008. What do you need from it? Burningclean [speak] 19:58, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
If there are any reviews about the album Indestructible from that magazine, it might help. Like "The Guy" said, anything from printed sources that can help expand and source the article would be great.--Almax999 22:38, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I hate to ask a lot, but you wouldn't be able to scan it, would you? I appreciate you wanting to help, and I don't mean to ask for more than I should, but I would really like to skim through that myself, as opposed to telling you what to look for. Thanks in advance. --The Guy complain edits 01:16, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Unfortunately, I can't because I don't have a working scanner. I read through it, and I don't think it would be of much use anyway because it is actually about them playing overseas to some troops. Burningclean [speak] 03:03, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Peer review of Cannibal Corpse, Origin (band) and Symphony X

Attention metalheads! I've recently reworked these articles extensively, with help from FireCrystal and Cannibaloki. We've added a huge number of references (among which we have tried to ensure as much reliability as possible), performed some pretty thorough copyediting, and included any interesting and relevant information that we have found. I am going to submit these three articles for peer review, which means that you can nitpick our work and offer suggestions, if you are so inclined. Just go to Wikipedia:Peer review and leave a comment or ten. I encourage you to pull no punches in your assessments.

Oh, and when you leave comments, would you please put them in a new subsection, with your username as the header, and write them as a bulleted list? That would make it much easier for me to address your concerns. Thank you.

Sincerely, Huntthetroll (talk) 10:50, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

oh, jeez. I just looked at this article, and it is almost horrifying. heavily POV, and just poorly written in general. There is only one source on the whole page, and it only covers 2 sentences (which either do not need their own section, or should be greatly expanded upon). I won't have the time to do anything major for a couple weeks, so if anyone else who knows about this was so inclined, almost anything would be helpful.

Coordination

im not part of the project, but everynow and then i'll get on wiki and look up a band i've recently heard. what i've noticed is that there seems to be a wide variety of metl genres listed on wikipedia. Music on wiki needs to be organized by wide music styles, then categorized into genres and subgenres.

heres an example

Genere: metal Sub-genre: metalcore style: mathcore Also labeled as: hardcore, rapcore, and thrash metal (this genre applying to loosly applied genre terms)

anyways, if anyone agrees, b sure 2 drop a line 2 wiki, and try to colaborate with other people on the project.

thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.225.9.227 (talkcontribs)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:59, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
