Multimedia technology

Hey Calicocat. I'm looking for a place to coordinate VST, Free audio software, Digital audio workstation, and other articles related to Multimedia technology, especially of the audio/video type. Could this project's scope expand to include that? (BTW,There was a comment tag on the project page that had commented out a big chunk of the page. I fixed it.) Quinobi 08:55, 28 July 2005 (UTC)

Great, we need about 10 to 15 people to make this project really go, I think. at least 10. That's what's advised for projects. Some of these items fit on the articles list, so can certainly add those. Also any other thoughts are welcome. I see us looking at Media from the technical and the application side, creative solutions, compeating formats, economics, journalism, entertainment, law, ethics. Are you good at formating templates? A project needs a template to help promote it, those are placed on the talk pages of articles of relevance to the project. So we need to advertise the project some more as a good start. I went ahead and stuck one on Multimedia which was nominated for an article improvement drive but never got improved. My interests are in things like audio production and the music business, but this seems like a good project to work through. BTW, haven't I seen you in #wikipedia? Title and scope

Hi, Calicocat. The project title seems much wider than the stuff I saw listed so far. I'd like to suggest a middle ground, with a title of "Mass media", which would also include, for example, TV and records. Maurreen (talk) 15:02, 28 July 2005 (UTC)

I expanded the text for the Scope of the project and also worked on templates which were modeled after the one seen at Journalism, a new color should be selected so as to aviod confusion. I added some projects I felt were similar and some that I thought were descendants; I added articles to the list and created a way for someone to sign-up easily. Calicocat 06:23, 29 July 2005 (UTC)

Im glad you'll be looking in from time to time. I'd rather keep the name just as "Media;" Mass Media is included within that and then Journalism a subset of that. I wonder if there's a way to do simple graphics or flow charts to show this better... Calicocat 10:17, 29 July 2005 (UTC)

Suggestion for media articles

Hi there. I think it would be a good idea to start a series of articles on media bias in different countries/regions, or just media overviews in general. For example, the article Media bias in the United States would be well complimented by articles on the UK, Australia, Canada (although very close to US), Israel - in fact any country. I'd love to read about media bias in Russia, for example. I know very little about most of these countries, but I'm willing to start the one on the UK as soon as I'm done writing my current research project (see User:Will Lakeman/Wikipedia research for details). I think it might make a nice series.illWill 22:47, 28 July 2005 (UTC)

That sounds like a good idea, but in terms of this project, I thought reviewing the articles was an interesting experience; I think we're just getting the lay of the land. Doing these projects is like a "pull back to reveal" camera move, or even the aerial photography of Wikipedia. Sometimes I like doing articles, other times I like doing project work. I realize projects might not always move so quickly, nor should they. Careful consideration has to be given so as not to introduce systemic biases and to make sure that good articles are not bashed about becuase they do not meet some outside "standard" imposed by the project. Hierarchy definition

Woah. Back up a bit Calicocat. I think it's better to fill out the project page rather than fill it up. I learnt this the hard way with Wikipedia:WikiProject_Community. It also has a dual scope, by the way.

I added everything carefully, giving careful thought to each item added. Some things might be reduced, but it wasn't just filling it up. That should be clear if you look at the selections made and so on. I'm not being adversarial with you. I'll certainly not rushing this along. I like the Hierarchy statement. I think we should have something like that related to scientific hierarchy of media. By "learnt the hard way", I mean getting hollered at for eating up too much WikiProjectSpace with too few returns on the investment. For at least the online computing portions of that taxonomy, we might consider the seven-tiered OSI_model when classifying topics. For example, the three bottom layers are called the media layers, but really if you step back and look at the model all seven layers have something to do with Computing media. Speaking of taxonomy and classification, we can probably borrow some transclusion methods from Wikipedia:WikiProject_Taxonomy and adapt them to our schema if that's a development goal for this project. I think keeping the scope large is good for this project as it helps transcend some limitations both for the reader who could benifit from a well-formed frame of reference and for this project as we grow to understand what media can include. But again I'm a bit of a megalomaniac and a mergist. Quinobi 17:18, 1 August 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Hello, I just noticed that someone placed your project banner on the talk page for IATSE and was just wondering what the basis was for that. Internet brigades

I'm not quite sure if this is within the scope of this project, but I thought I'd ask just in case. Some help is needed in making a potential article over here - about the alleged flooding of the internet with information by secret police used by a few governments (currently the Russians and the Chinese have been alleged of doing this). Some notable sources are available in the references section. The original article (which was very problematic and was deleted) was purely based on the FSB allegations, and an attempt is being made to make the future potential article more international. It is currently up for deletion review over here, where there is a tie of votes (9 to 9) between those who endorse its deletion and those who want it overturned and relisted. This is a very controversial topic, but in my view there seem to be enough notable sources to make a decent article out of it, so I hope that someone here may be able to help. I'm posting this message on several different wikiprojects, in the hope that enough people look at the article that it undergoes the thorough review which it needs. Esn 01:27, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Question about oversimplification of media

It seems media is oversimplified to mean mass media in many places on the wikipedia. There was a move to disambiguate the word in articles. Most uses of the word have been directed to mass media. Now it appears that media theory has been directed to the Media influence article, which only covers mass media. In media studies, is mass media the only significant subject of study, or is media usage on every scale the subject of study? Media and the Selling of Concepts

In War theory http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_theory I have identified two different types of media with different target audiences- the mass media intended for the "six minutes of news is all I can stand, make it black and white for me" crowd, and the " I want to be acknowledged as an expert and be rewarded for my extensive knowledge of this area, so let me join your think tank and cash the checks you write" crowd, who may be no less dupes than the six minute crowd, but react to a different set of levers being pulled on their psyches. Both groups are at the mercy of big money hiring experts to manipulate their opinions. There is no substitute for big money in the media. Ask the thousands of Palestinians who were in captivity while the " Two Israeli Soldiers Kidnapped!! " story was running all day on the national news. Wolf Blitzer probably won't feature them. ever. They have no focus group or lobbying contingent in Washington. If mass transit was the best answer for the environment to our energy problems, would it have a powerful lobby in place in Washington to get itself implemented? No. We will be stuck talking about more efficient cars until we choke on the fumes. If the best answer to our immigration trouble was to fine the Americans who are hiring them, would Congress do it? No. They would waste money building a silly wall and probably build it with illegal labor because it is cheaper. Meanwhile they are getting their condos cleaned by Puerto Ricans for $5.00 an hour. But the media will convince us the Government is fighting illegal immigration by building a really good wall along the border.Outofthebox 07:05, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

About Television network and syndication

I have noticed the word "syndicated" when I read about television series. As I don't understand that word I read the article Broadcast syndication. I was a long well written article but since I don't live in th US, I still don't understand what it is. So I went on to read the articles Broadcast network and Television network to get a clearer picture of television networking and syndicated television. But they are, unfortunately, written with the assumption that everyone knows something about how television is organized in the US or at least in Northern America. I don't, I live in Sweden where we, as I understand from the articles read, don't have television networks. The point is that the articles are good, and they state clearly that they describe how it works in the US (some kind of global perspective), but they do not explain HOW it actually works and what it is. Having fiddled a little with Camera (magazine), I wondered what Projects might be interested. Since it's a magazine about photography and photography is a medium and so is a magazine, I was pretty sure that it would pertain to a project on media, and so I slapped your template on its talk page. Featured Sound Nomination and participation

Hey all. Whilst trawling through wikipedia i cam across the Featured sound page. I noticed that there was a significant lack of regular participation in this process. At the moment there are only 15 audio rerecording that have reached featured Status and I was wondering whether it would be possible to get more involvementfrom people interested in music and also generally audio recordings so that the best audio on wikipedia can be truly appreciated. Determining Spam

In various place articles, to be listed a paper must have its own article. This is to ensure that listing it is not merely spam. It suddenly dawns on me that all television and radio stations are listed automatically. Only the higher standard is required for print media. While I still don't want to list mere throwaways, neither should television nor radio stations with scant listeners or few hours be listed either. This needs discussion and some rationale. WikiProject Media franchises

Dear WikiProject Media participants...WikiProject Media franchises needs some help from other projects which are similar. Media franchises scope deals primarily with the coordination of articles within the hundreds if not thousands of media franchises which exist. Sometimes a franchise might just need color coordination of the various templates used; it could mean creating an article for the franchise as a jump off point for the children of it; or the creation of a new templating system for media franchise articles. The project primarily focuses on those media franchises which are multimedia as not to step on the toes of this one. The disambiguation page Media

Greetings, The disambiguation project is working on removing links to disambiguation pages, and Media is one of them. It's even linked in your project template. It seems to me that you're really addressing mass media here, as opposed to Medes, media (arts) or even Kaus Media. Advertisements

Template:Video going, going ...

Heads up media folks, Template:Video is going down unless there is a rally to save it at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/2008 December 27.
The image tag fallback is a one size fits all that confuses still pictures with simple videos, marqueed feature movie clips, and audios. The fallback has no marquee, and hides the file type information at debug time, meaning one can't search a multi-media dense Mediawiki file by media file type – every file is just "image". With the number of WP videos expected to explode (I heard on TV yesterday that six videos are being uploaded every second at YouTube), eliminating the options to marquee and display file-info-type for videos and film clips makes no sense. Furthermore, no one is forced to use Template:Video, this is just the opposite – trying to prevent knowlegable use of a template that non-esthetically-educated techies don't know how to use.
Nine months ago a non-esthetically-educated techie editor made a POV 2008 March 21 TfD attack on Template:Video, using the bad faith technique of deleting all the instances (24) and then claiming the template was unused, even though there were only 200 videos altogether. I thought it was an idiosyncratic issue for that one editor, and I did the technical heavy lifting to negotiate a withdrawn TfD settlement at Template talk:Video#Rewritten video template.
Today (Dec 27) another non-esthetically-educated techie editor has renewed that attack, this time framing it as lack of template popularity even though such lack was created by the first editor. He posted this nom without communicating his concerns to the Template:Video talk page.
Both editors seem to belong to an anti art-music attitude clique found in every local school district of, why are we wasting resources on art and music esthetic education? (The scientific answer has been located in research linking esthetic education to higher math scores – recall that Einstein was a violinist.)
Technical students have long complained about why they are forced to learn so much non-tech liberal arts education in high school and at university. Here you see the answer: this is what happens when undereducated techies gain too much power. Milo 04:41, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. Media and the 2008–2009 Israel–Gaza conflict

Hey all. I contributed a bit to the page Media and the 2008–2009 Israel–Gaza conflict a little while back, and always wanted to come back and revisit it after some time had passed and there was a bit more perspective on the situation. Ultimately, altough the main 2008–2009 Israel–Gaza conflict remains far too unstable, I'd like to improve the separate "Media" page for a GA and maybe higher down the road. Le Dr. Yasuo Hotta, un biologiste de l'Université de Californie à San Diego, a isolé une composante des jeunes herbes. Nommé provisoirement P4Di, cette substance a démontré la capacité de stimuler la production et la réparation naturelle du sperme humain et l’ADN.

Le jus d’herbe de blé est extrêmement riche en chlorophylle (70%). il contient 92 des 116 minéraux connus et une bonne dose de vitamines A, B, C et E. Pour être efficace, le jus d'herbe de blé doit être bu aussitôt après son extraction. Il est intéressant de noter que lorsque nous vieillissons, les enzymes baissent en quantité et en force, alors que la capacité de notre corps à traiter les graisses lourdes, les protéines, et les calories excédentaires diminue. Ceci pourrait être la cause de l’obésité et du vieillissement prématuré qui affligent tant de tunisien aujourd'hui. Il est également intéressant de noter que trois de ces enzymes, l’oxydase cytochrome, la peroxydase et la catalase se trouvent en concentrations relativement élevées dans les globules rouges et les globules blancs en santé. Cependant leurs nombres sont considérablement diminués dans le corps d'une personne atteinte du cancer.

Nous avons déjà vu comment les enzymes de l'herbe de blé aident à désintoxiquer les polluants à l'intérieur de nous. Ils nous aident aussi à mieux digérer notre nourriture. Dans quelques cas ils ont aussi démontré une capacité à « digérer » ou dissoudre les excès de graisses et protéines dans le corps. Une des enzymes trouvée dans l’herbe, (SOD), joue un rôle capital dans la capacité de l’herbe de blé à prévenir le vieillissement. Cette enzyme a reçu beaucoup d'attention dans les milieux scientifiques comme étant possiblement une enzyme de l'antivieillissement.

Travaillant indépendamment, le Dr. Barry Halliwell, un biochimiste de l'Université de Londres, le Dr. M. Rister, de l'Université de Cologne en Allemagne, et le Dr. Irwin Fridovich, un biochimiste de Duke University, ont trouvé la SOD dans toutes les cellules du corps. Ils ont enquêté sur le rôle que joue cette enzyme dans le ralentissement du vieillissement cellulaire. Remarquablement, le SOD réduit les effets de la radiation, agit comme un composé anti-inflammatoire, et peut prévenir les dommages aux cellules causés par les crises cardiaques ou l’exposition à des irritants. L’herbe de blé est une source d’alimentation supérieure de SOD.

Le SOD se produit naturellement dans chaque cellule comme un agent équilibrant qui neutralise les effets toxiques de super oxydes qui résident eux aussi dans les cellules. Les super oxydes sont des substances produites par chaque cellule dans les processus métaboliques normaux. Cependant, quand la quantité de super oxydes dans les cellules augmente, sans une augmentation correspondante dans la production de SOD, ils peuvent endommager des cellules et accélérer le vieillissement.

Suite à l’exposition à des radiations ou polluants tels que des dérivés de l'oxyde d'azote, suivant la consommation de substances étrangères (et toxiques) comme des drogues et additifs chimiques, et en vieillissant, le nombre de super oxydes dommageables dans et autour de nos cellules augmente. Leur accumulation endommage les graisses, l’ADN et la structure globale des cellules. Comme je l'ai mentionné, une certaine quantité de super oxydes est nécessaire, mais tout excès devrait être détruit par la présence de SOD dans les cellules. Quand les réserves de SOD sont basses, les cellules s’empoisonnent; elles perdent leur capacité de se renouveler et meurent prématurément. En fait, plus on a de vieilles cellules ou de cellules anormales dans le corps et plus nos cellules contiennent habituellement des super oxydes.

Cependant, dans des essais de laboratoire et des tests cliniques, la SOD s’est avérée être une enzyme sûre et efficace qui peut nous protéger des dommages cellulaires causés par les super oxydes, l’infection, le vieillissement, le radiation et l’empoisonnement dû à une mauvaise nourriture, l’air ou les drogues. L’herbe de blé est une source naturelle de SOD.

L’herbe de blé est un véritable concentré d’énergie. On estime généralement qu’un kilo d’herbe de blé fraîche est équivalent à près de 2,3 kg des meilleurs légumes ! Mais sachez que le jus d’herbe a un goût corsé. Pour vous habituer, diluez ce jus avec de l’eau ou d’autres jus de légumes. Commencez par 30 millilitres par jour (soit 1/5 de verre environ). Gardez le jus dans votre bouche pendant au moins 20 secondes afin de mélanger avec votre salive. Celle-ci activera vos enzymes digestifs et nettoiera vos gencives.

Le jus d’herbe de blé est un dépuratif tellement puissant qu’il peut provoquer des nausées au début. Mais cette réaction s’atténuera à mesure que votre corps se nettoiera.

Vous pouvez en boire 5 jours par semaine, 3 semaines sur 4 par exemple. Il faut reconnaître que le goût n'est pas apprécié de tous - doucereux et limite écœurant, le très fort parfum d'herbe a de quoi dérouter au départ. Voici un résumé des étapes décrites par Anne Wigmore dans son livre pour obtenir de l’herbe de blé :

1. Procurez-vous des graines de blé, du terreau pour semis et de grands plateaux à bords élevés, puis lavez les grains.

2. Laissez-les tremper pendant 12 heures dans une jarre remplie d’eau, placée debout. Celle-ci doit être recouverte d’une moustiquaire solidement maintenue en place avec un élastique.

3. Passé ce délai, videz l’eau du pot. Rincez une fois, puis installez le pot de façon à ce qu’il repose à45° pur que l’eau puisse s’égoutter.

4. Laissez germer pendant 12 heures.

5. A la fin de cette période, préparez vos plateaux en y mettant environ 2 à 3 cm de terreau. Laissez une petite rigole de chaque côté pour que l’excédent d’eau trouve une voie de sortie, ou laissez l’eau s’écouler par la bonde du plateau. Cela évitera le pourrissement des graines.

6. Après avoir égalisé la surface, répandez vos grains de blé dont la pousse devrait, en principe avoir commencé. pas besoin de les enterrer ou de les recouvrir de terreau.

7. Arrosez le tout.

8. Recouvrez ensuite le plateau avec un autre plateau adaptable ou tout autre élément opaque, ou encore, placez-le dans un endroit sombre. Cette phase dure 2 à 3 jours.

9. Dans la phase suivante, enlevez ce qui couvrait le plateau e mettez-le dans un endroit où il peut recevoir de la lumière sans pour autant être en plein soleil.

10. Arrosez tous les jours ou tous les deux jours pour que le terreau reste humide

Et voilà, le travail est terminé. Lorsque l’herbe atteint 15 à 20 cm, vous n’aurez plus qu’à " faire la moisson ". Pour cette tâche, servez-vous d’une paire de ciseaux et tranchez l’herbe jusqu’au ras du terreau. Utilisez rapidement cette " herbe merveilleuse " mais pouvez la conserver jusqu’à 7 jours au réfrigérateur dans un sac ou un pot bien scellé. Vous pouvez aussi produire votre jus avec une centrifugeuse en fonction de votre désir.

Si cette méthode vous semble très compliquée, longue et épuisante vous pouvez simplement prendre un coin dans le jardin est semé les grains arrosez les et attendre jusqu’a l’herbe atteint 15 à 20 cm, c’est plus facile pour vous n’est ce pas !

Pour terminer, Le jus de blé procurera une vitalité qui vous surprendra sans aucun doute. Qu’est-ce que la biotechnologie? par alaa maaref

La biotechnologie désigne la science résultant du mariage entre la biologie (l’étude des organismes vivants) et un ensemble de techniques venant d’autres disciplines comme l’informatique, la chimie, la physique, etc.

Souvent, quand on parle de biotechnologie, les gens pensent tout de suite aux OGM, c’est-à-dire aux organismes génétiquement modifiés. On les nomme ainsi car il est possible, à l’aide de la biotechnologie, de modifier le contenu génétique de certains vivants, comme les animaux et les plantes. C’est notre contenu génétique (aussi nommé ADN) qui nous permet de présenter des caractéristiques particulières : grandeur, couleur des yeux, cheveux frisés ou raides, etc. En modifiant notre contenu génétique, on change ainsi nos caractéristiques!

La biotechnologie moderne distingue les plus récentes applications de la biotechnologie comme le génie génétique, des méthodes plus classiques telles la reproduction sélective ou la fermentation. Ces techniques modernes ont été rendues possibles grâce aux travaux de nombreux scientifiques des 19e et 20e siècles. Au cours de cette période, des travaux effectués chez certains organismes (les plantes et la mouche drosophile, entre autres) ont permis la découverte des gènes, puis, plus tard, on a découvert que l’ADN avait une structure en forme de double hélice dans les cellules.

Aujourd’hui, grâce à l’avancement de ces connaissances, les humains ont réussi à améliorer leur qualité de vie et à produire des biens et des services utiles. En effet, on trouve la biotechnologie dans plusieurs secteurs importants, tels la santé humaine, l’environnement, la santé animale, l’industrie agroalimentaire, et bien plus.

Par exemple, grâce à la biotechnologie, on arrive aujourd’hui à produire de l’insuline en laboratoire qui peut être utilisée par les humains pour traiter le diabète. Auparavant, on devait utiliser de l’insuline animale, et plusieurs personnes y étaient allergiques. On peut aussi produire divers médicaments et vaccins, grâce à la biotechnologie moderne. En environnement, les applications sont aussi nombreuses. Par exemple, on peut décontaminer un site pollué, ou encore trouver de nouveaux fertilisants et pesticides moins nocifs pour l’environnement. En santé animale, les techniques associées à la biotechnologie sont utilisées, entre autres, pour l’amélioration génétique des animaux et la production de médicaments.

Il est aujourd’hui possible de produire à chaque année des vaccins contre le virus de la grippe, en utilisant des œufs de poule! On « cultive » les différents virus de la grippe qui sont susceptibles de causer une épidémie dans ces œufs, puis on les casse. On isole les virus de cette omelette géante, puis on les traite pour qu’ils soient inoffensifs, et on vaccine les gens!

Sachant que le fil d’araignée est une substance suffisamment solide pour résister à une balle de fusil, mais qu’il est impossible d’élever les araignées pour leur extraire cette substance (elles sont agressives et se dévorent entre elles), des scientifiques ont introduit des gènes de l’araignée dans des embryons de chèvre. Résultat? Ces animaux transgéniques peuvent maintenant produire dans leur lait les protéines à l’origine du fil d’araignée. Une fois les protéines purifiées, on pourra les utiliser pour en faire des gilets pare-balles. Percutant non?

La biotechnologie est également très présente dans le secteur agroalimentaire. Grâce à elle, on arrive aujourd’hui à détecter la présence de bactéries dangereuses pour les animaux d’élevage.

Les lucioles et le contrôle de la qualité des aliments Grâce aux lucioles, il est maintenant possible de détecter des produits toxiques dans les aliments. Par exemple, Coca-Cola utilise cette technologie et la NASA y pense sérieusement. Comment? Des chercheurs ont isolé le gêne permettant aux lucioles d’émettre de la lumière et ont développé un procédé qui permet d’obtenir de la fluorescence en présence de produits toxiques.

Bâtons de hockey à toute épreuve! Aimerais-tu avoir un bâton de hockey très résistant, plus flexible et léger que les bâtons actuels? C’est maintenant possible grâce à la nanotechnologie. Des nanotubes de carbone ont été créés. Il s’agit de petits cylindres composés uniquement de carbone. Ces tubes sont si petits que dans une petite goutte d’eau, on peut en mettre plus d’un million! Et ces nanotubes sont cent fois plus résistants que l’acier, tout en étant 6 fois moins lourd! Mais il faut y mettre le prix : il en coûte 20 fois le prix de l’or!

Un « renifleur » d’explosifs! Qui a dit que seuls les chiens pouvaient arriver à détecter les explosifs à l’aéroport? Il existe maintenant un appareil qui peut renifler chimiquement les vapeurs dégagées par les explosifs bien camouflés! Cet appareil utilise la chromatographie gazeuse et s’appelle EVD. Mais il y a de la compétition! Un biocapteur, composé d’enzymes modifiées génétiquement, permet d’arriver au même résultat. Mais en plus, il est plus petit, soit moins de 3 cm et peut donc être invisible à l’œil nu! Surveillez-vous!

Des bactéries mangeuses de pétrole Il existe des bactéries, dont l'Alcanivorax borkumensis, qui peuvent dévorer les composants du pétrole brut. Ainsi, les marées noires dues au déversement de pétrole pourraient être moins dévastatrices. Des bactéries similaires peuvent aussi être utilisées pour décontaminer des sols.

Empreintes génétiques Les empreintes digitales permettent depuis longtemps d’identifier un suspect. Mais maintenant, on peut aussi prendre une empreinte génétique! Chacun d’entre nous sommes différents parce que nous avons un ADN qui nous est unique. En retrouvant sur une scène de crime un cheveu par exemple, il est possible d’analyser l’ADN qui s’y trouve et de le comparer à celui des suspects. Un peu plus long mais beaucoup plus précis! GA Reassessment of Al Jazeera

Update

Voting or commenting on each segment of the Proposed guidelines in relation to remedy 13.1 of the recently closed West Bank - Judea and Samaria arbitration case. Please comment here on preferred usage in the West Bank/Judea and Samaria area, to determine consensus by July 13th 2009.

The more comments/votes/consensus, the better. We really need to firm up consensus by community input into some of these areas to reduce the drain on admin and editor resources in policing naming disputes. Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:28, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

GA Reassessment of Nelvana

I have done a GA Reassessment of the article, Nelvana as part of the GA Sweeps project. I have found the article does not meet the GA Criteria and as such I have put it on hold pending work. Politico-Media Complex

Pageview stats

After a recent request, I added WikiProject Media to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Media/Popular pages.

The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. You can view more results, request a new project be added to the list, or request a configuration change for this project using the toolserver tool. Pending a decision on the AfD noted above, it would be helpful to get assistance in the article talk space from members of this project. The discussion in Talk:Robertson v. On the use of "lifestyle"

I recently have been engaging in the disambiguation of Lifestyle to Lifestyle (sociology), and I've come to realize that the term as used by a genre of television programs and magazines might not exactly mesh with the sociological concept. Is there another term that more precisely describes "lifestyle" as it is used in the media, or is the term lifestyle (sociology) sufficient? I wouldn't be sure what to call the new term, and so I'm not sure if such a subject is independently notable. Lifestyle (sociology) makes no mention of its use as a genre or category of entertainment media.

It may be appropriate to open a request for comment on this question, but I'm no expert on media so I think it prudent to seek feedback here first. Thank you!--otherlleft 14:25, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Article alerts

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.
