  • Hello, I am Alan. I have been invited to this project (see list below). I have an important criticism to make of what has been projected here so far, and it is the lack of attention to the country's indigenous peoples. (There may be other deficiencies too, I'm not saying indigenous issues are the only important problem not covered, but they are one such.) Including "Pipil mythology" is not enough! Ignoring the "native El Salvadoreans" is the norm in most official and dominant viewpoints regarding El Salvador, and is also the attitude of most people in El Salvador themselves, unfortunately; therefore the project outlined on this page at present can be said to reflect such "mainstream" behaviour. In my opinion, that is no justification (the widespread existence of discrimination cannot justify continuing to discriminate). Personally I do not feel attracted to working in a forum which systematically overlooks the very issue in connection with I might be interested in contributing, and there are other fora in which I can work where the importance of the original peoples of El Salvador and their concerns is appreciated and recognised. I am not prepared to adopt the position of a lonely voice with an audience of one: when I lived and worked in El Salvador I had to put up with that too often because of the apathy of people around me - I don't desire to act out that role again here, thank you very much. If I see any sign that there is a community interested in working on indigenous themes here, please invite me again and I promise to join you. If not, then Te nikneki. (Note: If anyone disagrees with or is scandalised by this reply or considers it unjustified, please have a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Countering systemic bias.) --A R King 08:33, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
I think you may be reading too much into the front page. The fellow started it and put in articles he saw to be missing. Everyone writes on what they are knowledgeable of. I live in the United States, that doesn't mean I can add anything to the articles on the National Basketball Association, the Nez Perce, or Twinkies. Everyone is welcome to write on what appeals to them. Chris 03:32, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Potential participants to invite

  1. A R King 06:11, 2 February 2007 (UTC) I lived in El Salvador from 2002 to 2005 working as a linguist on Náhuatl, the only surviving (but endangered) native language in El Salvador. There, I helped found the "Iniciativa para la Recuperación del Idioma Náhuatl" (IRIN). I am now based in the Basque Country but continue to support the effort and also have a scholarly interest in other Central American languages (and minority languages generally). My main contribution will be language-related articles.
  2. -- guacamaya I grew up in El Salvador. I usually stay in El Salvador at least once a year for months at a time i know much about the country and i would like to contribute all my knowledge to the article.
  3. -- Matteo747 lived in El Salvador since 2002, i have a MBA in international business and am currently working here on various business projects and proposals. I consider myself to know a lot about the culture, economic development, and tourism here first hand.

WPES Template, other stuff

1. I've started to add the WPES template to articles relating to el salvador but did not add ratings and the like. 2. I was wondering if we should rename city articles using the CITY, DEPARTMENT format. Articles such as "San Luis La Herradura" are listed as such. Would it be better to list it as "San Luis La Herradura, La Paz" like "La Union, La Union"? 3. The main page of the Wikiproject looks a but plain, anyone have any idea on how to make it look better? I like the way the Wikiproject Kurdistan page looks, any way we can make WPES look as nice? Jorobeq 19:26, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Bilateral relations discussion

I would like to invite you all to participate in a discussion at this thread regarding bilateral relations between two countries. All articles related to foreign relations between countries are now under the scope of WikiProject Foreign relations, a newly created project. We hope that the discussion will result in a more clean and organized way of explaining such relationships. Thank you. Ed ¿Cómo estás? 18:54, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Who the hell is Rolando Molina?

I'm Salvadoran and I have never heard of this guy... By the description you have of him, it's sounds like he is an extra... Wow, an extra who happens to be Salvadoran... It's true to say that there are not that many famous Salvadorans, however that day will come. So please, don't belittle us, the Salvadorans, by placing a valet parking actor on a list of famous Salvadorans... How patheic!!! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 162.119.232.108 (talk) 19:17, 7 May 2007 (UTC).

Bias

I think that for anyone to take the El Salvador main article seriously, it has to be cleansed of the propaganda of the History section. Even you commited leftists have to agree that it is not at all balanced. I think our objective should be to be as neutral and academic as possible. I would suggest that we use the UN Truth Commission Report as the basis to write the history of the Salvadoran Civil War. Please let me know if you are interested in making it academic and pursuing this or any other reasonable method. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ironchuck (talkcontribs) 01:45, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for El Salvador

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Latin American cinema task force

A Latin American cinema task force has been proposed at WP:FILMS, which would include the cinema of El Salvador. Interested editors are encouraged to sign up - if there is enough interest, then the task force will be created! Many thanks, Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 20:24, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:20, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:15, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

El Salvador articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the El Salvador articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

WikiProject cleanup listing

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 20:25, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

WikiWomen's History Month

Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:El Salvador will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in El Salvador's history, society and culture. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 23:29, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

You are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride!

  • What? Wiki Loves Pride, a campaign to document and photograph LGBT culture and history, including pride events
  • When? June 2015
  • How can you help?
1.) Create or improve LGBT-related articles and showcase the results of your work here
2.) Upload photographs or other media related to LGBT culture and history, including pride events, and add images to relevant Wikipedia articles; feel free to create a subpage with a gallery of your images (see examples from last year)
3.) Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)

Or, view or update the current list of Tasks. This campaign is supported by the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, an officially recognized affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation. Visit the group's page at Meta-Wiki for more information, or follow Wikimedia LGBT+ on Facebook. Remember, Wiki Loves Pride is about creating and improving LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects, and content should have a neutral point of view. One does not need to identify as LGBT or any other gender or sexual minority to participate. This campaign is about adding accurate, reliable information to Wikipedia, plain and simple, and all are welcome!

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the campaign's main talk page.

Thanks, and happy editing!

Help request: 129 El Salvador articles needing geographical coordinates

Based on a search of Wikipedia's articles related to El Salvador, I've found some articles that I believe are about places in El Salvador, and could usefully have geographical coordinates added.

The articles in question are listed in Category:El Salvador articles missing geocoordinate data. At the time of writing, some examples included:

  1. Caluco
  2. Celeste Imperio
  3. Chilanga
  4. Puerto El Triunfo
  5. San Luis de la Reina
  6. San Sebastián, San Vicente
  7. Santa Elena, Usulután

...and there are many more, as well. At the time of posting this notice, there were 129 articles in this category needing geographical coordinates.

Why add coordinates?

By adding coordinates, a Wikipedia reader can easily view the location on a street map, nautical chart, topographic map, by satellite photo, realtime weather map, and in many other ways. Coordinate data makes an article eventually appear in various services such as Google Maps' Wikipedia overlay, Google Earth, and Wikipedia's own internal map service. Coordinate data also helps readers looking for geographically-based data, such as locations near a reference point, or related information.

How can I do it?

The articles are all marked with {{coord missing}} tags, which need to be replaced with {{coord}} tags that contain the location's latitude/longitude coordinates; or you might be able to add coordinates to an existing infobox. You can find out how to do this at the Wikipedia:Geocoding how-to for WikiProject members. Please let me know if this is useful, or if you have any questions! -- The Anome (talk) 11:43, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject El Salvador/Archive 1/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject El Salvador/Archive 1/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 01:03, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Request for Feedback: Gender Equality in El Salvador

The current information on El Salvador does not address women’s rights in the country. For a class that I am in, I will be posting a new article entitled, “Gender Equality in El Salvador.” The article will discuss women in El Salvador, with the main sections being legal rights, politics, employment, domestic life, education, health care, and crimes against women. It will look at current figures from the UNDP's Gender Inequality Index, as well as present views from academia on moving forward. With high rates of violence against women, including femicides, the article is needed to shed light on gender inequality in El Salvador. I would appreciate any feedback on the proposed article, as well as any guidance on finding feminist academic sources that are relevant to the country.

Corythalia voluta

Corythalia voluta is a species of spider that can be found in El Salvador. It needs to be created. An article already exists in the Indonesian Wikipedia at id:Corythalia voluta, despite the subject having little to no affinity to Indonesia. This project is being notified because the subject is found in El Salvador, which means that is where a lot of coverage should be. WikiProject Spiders has already been notified, and WikiProject Indonesia will soon also be notified. I may need to notify more projects. Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs) 16:59, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:36, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Ilopango - the (in)famous air strip.

From Celerino (Cele) Castillo's accounts, we also know another side of this 'airstrip'.

This is where the airplanes bound for the USA took off full of cannabis, then soon after, cocaine. A young Colonel Oliver North knew this airstrip well.

Cele knew it from another angle, as he was a DEA agent at the time. During his time in the country, he narrowly escaped being kidnapped as he had left the hotel room he and his two fellow agents stayed in, to go just across the street on an errand.

His co-officers were abducted, eventually being buried alive.

Once residing peacefully in McAllen Texas, recently after his book and the horrible movie was made about his experiences, ans speaking at different forums on the subject, he was arrested for fire arms sales without a sales permit. (The arms were purchased legally.)

Turns out his Lawyer was a shady character, one his Bar license had expired before he represented Mr. Castillo.

I apologize, I don't know where he was incarcerated, but he was due to be released in 2012. Dear Lord please protect Cele, a good, decent man.

Church of Huizucar

Hi everyone, I came across this article which features information about the construction of the Church of Huizucar that is conflicting with the information found here on Wikipedia:

[1]

Namely, Wikipedia states that the entire church is made of wood, while this site states that the church is made of a mix of stone and adobe.

If someone knows more than me about this topic who can verify the correct information, it would be much appreciated.

This is my first post on the Talk forum, so please excuse any errors, and let me know if further clarification is needed.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
