I think this part of WP:TG might apply: Templates should not normally be used to store article text, as this makes it more difficult to edit the content. jlwoodwa (talk) 22:13, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is a classic example of a template that serves to add a layer of complexity to something for no apparent benefit. Do we really need funky formatting of initials, and if so do we really need a template to do it? * Pppery * it has begun... 16:54, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep: The precise formatting is up for debate, but even MOS:INITIALS recommends "funky formatting". The benefit of writing {{init|JRR|Tolkien}} instead of J.&nbsp;R.&nbsp;R. Tolkien seems obvious. jlwoodwa (talk) 22:12, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment to the closer: If this template is deleted, it should probably not be substed as-is, since that would leave hairspaces in articles, contrary to MOS:INITIALS. This template is a combination and fork of Template:Infobox comics character and Template:Infobox comic book title. This means that any changes to one of those templates requires to also change this template (if consistency is wanted). Instead what should be done is allowing Template:Infobox comics character to embed Template:Infobox comic book title.
