The Incarceration in Oklahoma article is of poor quality

edit

Incarceration in Oklahoma wants more help than I know how to give it. I say parts of it are sensationalistic and poorly supported. I've marked some of those parts, but I haven't given it a complete proofread.

Is there a template I should mark it with, or some other better way to proceed?

Thanks. --mathieu ottawa (talk) 01:24, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mathieu ottawa: Hi there! You could use {{more citations needed}} and/or |attention=yes in the WikiProject templates. Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 03:06, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Revert page, undo changes

Looks like https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_rankings_of_the_United_States has been edited to just have the US ranked #1 in every line, can an admi revert to previous please

This has apparently already been handled. JIP | Talk 02:08, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I received a copyright infringement alert today.But the file: RA Daly (1) .jpg, which I had Uploaded: seemed to have had all the terms of fair use. This warning seems like an overreaction of a zealous square system without the slightest flexibility . Please take a closer look. And remember in practice alerts in languages other than native language may make it even more difficult to understand. Therefore, there is even greater demand for flexibility.اربابی دوم (talk) 06:39, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You are talking about a file at Wikimedia Commons, not here on enwiki. Commons does not accept fair-use images. --David Biddulph (talk) 06:44, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you are struggling to understand the English at commons:User_talk:اربابی_دوم, the notices there include links for translation to numerous other languages, including Farsi. - David Biddulph (talk) 06:49, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@David Biddulph: I still hope that someone takes a closer look at the case. For this is a fairly old image that was already used on a similar article on English wikipedia!اربابی دوم (talk) 08:02, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

اربابی دوم Fair use images can be used on English Wikipedia and confusingly they can be hosted directly on English wikipedia, rather than Commons. The main implication of this is, that image cannot be used on any other language Wikipedia/media projects, but then must be uploaded individually/separate per project regulation. I am unsure what the Wikimedia equivalent of Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion is though. I am unsure how to go about preserving old history, otherwise if you have a copy you can re-upload directly here to English Wikipedia (NOT Commons) Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard. Tag me once you uploaded, so I can check ~ Shushugah (he/him • talk) 10:45, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Folks!! Does anybody know if there is any plan to replace the Google Books citation tool. It is currently down and the maintainer has made one in 9 months. Does anybody know if there is plan to replace is, or create a new one? Various people have posted notices to The tech village pump but there has been no response. Up until it went down I used it, very heavily and now its broken it's has now slowed me down considerably. Now I manually build the reference by copying the short url from the page, doing a worldcat lookup on the name and then build it in the editor. Effective but very slow. scope_creepTalk 11:47, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Scope creep: Hi there! As a workaround, have you tried saving the URL in the article and then using WP:REFLINKS or WP:ReFill? GoingBatty (talk) 16:17, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@GoingBatty: How goes it? Thanks for that, but these are not ideal? They are a triage solutions. I think these are good tools when its after the fact, and everybody has left, but they're not designed when your still building the article. ReFill particularly I'm not that keen on. I've seen it geting mixed up on different editions of a book and getting into a fankle that has had to be post-fixed. More work. That is reason I never use it. They are not designed for referencing in real time. If there is not a replacement for the Wikipedia citation tool for Google Books it is going to cut down article creation by 20% to 30%, probably more for bigger articles. It is the one utility on Wikipedia that is critical for most editors. scope_creepTalk 17:02, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Scope creep: I hope someone else plans to replace the Google Books citation tool for you, or will post an update here for you. I agree that I am only providing triage solutions. Another triage solution could be to use Wikipedia:Citation expander. Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 20:06, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@GoingBatty: Aye. I will take a look at the citation expander. Thanks. scope_creepTalk 20:08, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Tenova TAKRAF has changed their name to TAKRAF Group - how do I change this on the wikipedia article. I can't find the move tool. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LComms (talkcontribs) 13:27, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, LComms. Your account is too new to perform a move. Please discuss this matter at Wikipedia:Requested moves. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 15:33, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@LComms: If you work for TAKRAF Group, you must disclose your conflict of interest (see WP:PAID for instructions) and should not be directly editing the article. Instead, you can suggest improvements on the article talk page (currently Talk:Tenova Takraf) and use the {{request edit}} template to get help from a neutral editor. Thanks! I forgot my user ID

I forgot my user ID but I have my email... how do I reset? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.24.47.243 (talk) 13:40, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Use Special:PasswordReset if the email is stored in the account. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:58, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't that require the user name? Perhaps if the IP can remember the title of articles he had edited, he could look in the history to remind himself of the user name? --David Biddulph (talk) 17:01, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@David Biddulph: Special:PasswordReset lets you enter either the username or the email associated with the account. RudolfRed (talk) 18:28, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yes. I hadn't realised that (& hadn't looked carefully enough at the page). - David Biddulph (talk) 18:36, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

image upload

edit

I am trying to upload images our photographer took, but your system is not letting me. What do I have to do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zovargo (talkcontribs)

Hello, Zovargo. Who owns the copyright in these images? The answer is probably the photographer, unless there is a contract or other legal mechanism that specifically assigns the copyright somewhere else. Only the copyright owner has the power to license the images in a way that Wikimedia Commons will accept. If you personally own the copyright, or if the copyright is owned by a corporation and you have the legal power to assign the property of that corporation, then you can upload them yourself, and license them as you do so. Otherwise, whoever does own the copyright will have to upload them, or follow the procedure in donating copyright materials. Either way, the images will be required to be licensed in such a way that anybody may reuse or alter them for any purpose, commercial or not. See image use policy. --ColinFine (talk) 16:54, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template:folding

mw-collapsible

In the folding the class won't work if I call it as below. Why not ?

Table Title
Contents

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Rlakk00 (talkcontribs)
@Rlakk00: Try the Wikipedia:Village pump (technical), They may help. Remember to sign your comments with the four tilde's ~~~~ scope_creepTalk 17:32, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Rlakk00: Template:folding Doesn't exist. If you want to make your table colapsiable use the following code:
{| class = "wikitable mw-collapsible"
|-
! Table Title
|-
| Contents
|}
Which produces:
Table Title
Contents
Hope this helps, 192.76.8.74 (talk) 21:39, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Rlakk00: This is a help page for the English Wikipedia. I guess you refer to code at another unidentified wiki. Please always say which wiki a post is about if it's not the English Wikipedia. The code looks correct but it requires mw-collapsible and mw-collapsed to be implemented at the wiki. See mw:Manual:Collapsible elements. Collapsing only works for users with JavaScript enabled in their browser. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:57, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Scope creep:

My qustion is my template is 'MyFolding' for exam.

mw-collapsible

1st case:
{| class = "wikitable {{MyFolding|●}}"
|-
! Table Title
|-
| Contents
|}

2nd case:
{| class = "wikitable {{MyFolding|}}"
|-
! Table Title
|-
| Contents
|}

Why this coding is not work? ... do u understand my qustion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rlakk00 (talkcontribs)

@Rlakk00: The code works at Wikipedia with a browser with JavaScript. If you want us to examine why it doesn't work somewhere else then say where it is. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:46, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Rlakk00: What do you expect {{MyFolding|●}} to do? I don't see Template:MyFolding on the English Wikipedia and I don't see this template used on any pages in the English Wikipedia. GoingBatty (talk) 02:06, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Courtesy alert to other volunteers - there are three sources, all in Russian, and one is the Russian Wikipedia, so if you don't read Russian, you won't be able to do much to confirm the subjects notability without doing a Google search. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 21:04, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The logo for Thomas & Friends was originally on Commons until it was deleted on May 31, 2021. However, it can be reuploaded onto Wikipedia using fair use. RanDom 404 (talk) 20:26, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@RanDom 404: Hi there! I see the deletion discussion at commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Thomas and Friends Logo USA.png. If you are requesting the file from Commons, you'll have to ask there. You can also get a fair use image from the web, such as the official website. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 20:59, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Here, red text in green background is very discomfortable for my eyes. I tried to use white instead of red. But an editor keeps reverting my edit. I dont want to edit warring, so i will stop editing that article. I think we should use white there, it's very comfortable for eyes. আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 21:12, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. This appears to be about Amar Sonar Bangla, where আফতাবুজ্জামান and AMomen88 have been edit-warring. You should both stop doing so, and discuss it on the article's talk page. If you cannot reach agreement, then follow the procedures in WP:conflict resolution. --ColinFine (talk) 21:32, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
