Re-asking a question from User_talk:Sundogs/Archive_7

edit

I have asked if it is appropriate to have a user created navigational box for user sub-pages like I have right now (see my sandbox for all pages that I am working on) and I would love to have a navigational box for these sub-pages on my user tag on Wikipedia to use for the pages that I, or anyone, is working on? Is this okay by Wikipedia standards? The replier said that there wouldn't be any objections, but, I would like an Administrations concise approval or denial of this request. Thanks Sundogs UserPage My sandbox 00:05, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As Huon (talk · contribs) explained, this is fine, provided you create the navbox as a subpage of your user page. This is an allowed use of your user space, as explained at WP:UPYES. You do not need administrator approval. For example, you could create User:Sundogs/My navbox and then use it as {{User:Sundogs/My navbox}}. There's an example at User:Sun Creator/Typos. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:08, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Question about the Novel Clean Up tag

edit

I was on The Bourne Identity (novel) and saw the clean up tag for a novel. I stated in the talk page as I am now on this for general purposes, I have read the book many times over and came back to Wikipedia and started to look around and I saw The Bourne Identity novel has this clean up tag for a novel stating it is unclear for the reader about the plot or novel. As stated in the talk page, the plot is perfectly find and accurate and best summarize the book after re-reading the book for the upteen time. So, basically saying, may I remove the clean up tag? Sundogs UserPage My sandbox 00:11, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Be bold. If you think the article is improved and doesn't need the tag, remove it. RudolfRed (talk) 00:50, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Indian Premier League

edit

Hello,

The Seven Network has been listed as the broadcast rights holder for the IPL in Australia for 2013 onwards. This is not accurate.

Can this please be removed from the Indian Premier League page?

Indian Premier League

I work for the Seven Network and am currently fielding numerous enquiries about this.

Kind Regards John Edwards Sport Product Manager Yahoo!7 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.108.98.216 (talk) 00:32, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and thank you for bringing this up. I did some research online and it appears that you were right; based on what I found, it appears that the Indian Premier League is currently not being broadcast at all in Australia due to a legal dispute. I edited the article with the information I found, using a web article I located as a source. If you would like to take a look at this edit you can check on the information I changed. --NickContact/Contribs 02:24, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I want to see my deleted media contributions

edit

I uploaded a lot of images to the Wikipedia in the past 7 years, but the pages (and contributions) were deleted when someone moved them to Commons. I want to see a list of which ones I uploaded. (i.e. File:Michelle_McCool_with_title.jpg) Feedback 00:59, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You may wish to ask at commons if there is a way to track them. Village pump tech here or just the village pump there may know.--Canoe1967 (talk) 01:05, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
They were uploaded here at Wikipedia though, so the deleted pages must still be here. If an admin could give me the names of my deleted file contributions, I'd be very grateful. Feedback 01:19, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
At Special:Log/upload you can see uploaded file names for an account, including deleted files. If you edited a file page but didn't upload the file then it requires an admin to see it. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:29, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'd like for an admin to be send me the pictures I uploaded at File:Puerto Rico Primo.jpg, File:Khali with a singapore cane.jpg and File:Jericho title.jpg so I can re-upload it with the appropriate license information that I apparently forgot to add some time ago. Feedback 03:18, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have temporarily restored them, but they will need some action from you to remain online. For the first two, are you <removed>? If not, then you will need to have them send a statement of permission to WP:OTRS. For all three, they are low-resolution and blurry, so unless they are used in articles, they are subject to deletion. Please add them to articles where you wish for them to be used. -- King of 04:48, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's my wife, but IDK why I wrote her name. Man, I was such a fool 5 years years ago, using my full name as a user name and writing my wife's name online. Anyway, she might have took the picture, but I upload all the pictures from my camera as mine. I'm pretty sure my wife doesn't object to giving me the rights lol I'll just add my username to it. Feedback 22:52, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The permission form and addresses for OTRS can be found here: Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries. Mlpearc (powwow) 05:27, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Toledo Mud Hens

edit

I was reading the article about former players for the Toledo Mud Hens. I am positive that my grandfather, Kenny Grimes, brother of Ray and Roy, cousin of Oscar, and relative of coach, Burleigh, played for the Mud Hens. I was looking to see what position he played but can't seem to find any info. I know he was injured and eventually had to quit. Bonnie(Grimes) Parenti Uniontown Ohio — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.100.203.251 (talk) 01:45, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The best place to ask this question is the article talk page. Users who know this subject would be editing there and not necessarily see this post at all. Mlpearc (powwow) 05:31, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
A Google search finds three entries one of which indicates he played short stop. The results are to articles at newspaperarchive.com which are by subscription. Not all people see the same text when they use Google so the shortened entry says "Kenny Grimes at short" and cuts off there, going on to other text. I can't imagine what the next word might be but "stop". Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 05:52, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The other two of your Google results, however, suggest that he was a pitcher ("Kenny Grimes did the flinging" and "Kenny Grimes did the hurling"). Perhaps he was a good enough hitter that he played shortstop on days when he wasn't pitching. Deor (talk) 15:36, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
WP:RX may help with the subscription sites. You may need email turned on though.--Canoe1967 (talk) 17:10, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

adding omitted name to infobox re: movie Percy Jackson :Sea of Monsters

edit

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

I added a name, but it doesn't display like the others & the message says "template does not exist." I've tried to figure out what to do to fix it, but it's beyond me. Is this something that you fix, and if not, what do I do? Esdras2 (talk) 06:15, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't show up because "visual effects" isn't part of the infobox film template. You can't just add any random field to an infobox. It has to be in the original template as an available field first. If you'd like it added to the template, the place to take up that discussion would be at Template talk:Infobox film. Dismas|(talk) 07:29, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would venture to suggest that a proposal to add such parameter would not succeed. We would be in danger of requests being made for every single production role which would make the ibox look like a movie's closing credits.--ukexpat (talk) 16:51, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

image not displaying

edit

File:John McAslan.jpg

I uploaded the above image and then tried to replace: [[:File:King's Cross Western Concourse.jpg|thumb|right|John McAslan + Partners' Western Concourse, London King's Cross railway station]] which was an existing image in our page with: [[:File:R_121128_press.jpg|thumb|right|John McAslan]] the image that I uploaded with the link at top of this message

But all I get is a picture box with the text for a link to the image, it is not actually displaying the image, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks, alice Mcaslancomms 10:59, 2 April 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Macaslancomms (talkcontribs) 11:59, 2 April 2013

You have to use the exact name of the file when placing it in an article, the same capitalisation, punctuation, etc. The image file's name is "John McAslan.jpg", not "R_121128_press.jpg". Roger (talk) 11:11, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Walter Butts

edit

Hello. The Walter Butts page has incorrectly listed his latest work. His latest full length book is Cathedral of Nervous Horses: New and Selected Poems published 2013 by Hobblebush Books. I am his wife, S Stephanie Thank you for correcting this info in advance. S — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.91.9.254 (talk) 12:23, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I added a section header and a link to the article. Do you know of any Reliable Sources that document the above? I'm afraid Wikipedia rules don't allow us to just take your word for this, as we have no way of confirming who you are. Rojomoke (talk) 12:36, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I apologise. When I actually do a little research, it quickly becomes apparent that that is indeed a newer book than the one listed. I will update the article. Rojomoke (talk) 12:42, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have a copyright on the name Polga (pole yoga) which is a form of yoga that I developed using a pole fitness pole. What is the best way to get my info on wikipedia so that it comes up when people search Polga? I have been dealing with several coypright infringements and just wanted to get the word out that this form of fitness is a copyrighted class and you must be certified to use the title Polga. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Polga (pole yoga) (talkcontribs) 15:19, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the first thing is your username is promotional. Since you are closely related to the subject, any edits made on that "page/article" would be a conflict of interest, which requires special attention for involved editors. Out side of these issues the most common answer to your question is, If the subject is notable enough someone else will write about it. Mlpearc (powwow) 16:01, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You might also benefit from learning the difference between copyright and trademark.--Shantavira|feed me 16:32, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia does not have anywhere in its purposes helping you get your product's name out: indeed, that would be seen as promotional, and specifically excluded. If your product gets written about in multiple reliable sources independent of you, then it may have an article, though as Mlpearc says it shouldn't really be written by you. --ColinFine (talk) 14:41, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

John Napier

John Napier (designer) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

We have tried to edit spouse for John Napier - the information is in a side box only - and we cannot edit off the page itself... how do we do this ? The side box says spouse: donna king M. 1984 they have been divorced 20 years - we can find no facility for a side box (right hand side of page) edit.86.141.173.110 (talk) 15:33, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article, John Napier (designer), does not mention Donna King anywhere in the article. GB fan 16:58, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any way other than Chick skin to have a Wikipedia article take up the whole page width?

edit

So today this message popped up "You are using the Chick skin, which is being removed beginning on April 15, 2013. More information." I really enjoy chick skin, and use it on all my wiki sites. The main reason is that I find it much simpler to read articles, when the text takes up the width of the entire page. I don't like having reading space wasted with menus and other distractions.

I also greatly enlarge the font, which creates problems with menus bleeding into article space.

IS there any way to have articles take up the entire width of the page on one of the approved skins- Vector, MonoBook, Modern and Cologne Blue?--Gary123 (talk) 16:16, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Have you tried WP:VPT?— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 20:11, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Letter to an Anti-Zionist Friend

edit

Hello,

I read the Martin Luther King: Letter to an Anti-ZIonist Friend article on here, and I believe it is inaccurate. Here's an article I've read debunking what's written on wiki about that.

You need reliable sources that are verifiable. See WP:42 for a summary and links to more explanation. RudolfRed (talk) 19:54, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Fortunately, the history of the Ani-Yunwiya is better documented than most (although Mooney had his prejudices), in English and Cherokee. Oral traditions cannot be used as sources, since as you say there is no way to verify. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:42, 2 April 2013 (UTC) (call me Inali)[reply]

.About Eduardo Galeano biography

edit
  Resolved

In the article about Eduardo Galeano biography, there is a paragraph that, next to his last name, it said Galeano "cara de ano" which is considered an insult. In spanish means "ass face" and this is a lack of respect for one of the best and most renowned writers of South America. Please, I beg you that remove it as soon as ´possible.
