Maps edit

Hello there. I noticed you created File:Location Mauritius AU.svg, a marked improvement on File:Location Mauritius AU Africa.svg. However, rather than uploading as a new file, would you instead just upload it as a new version of the AU Africa file? That would automatically change pictures throughout all projects to the better one, and not create pointless old files. Cheers, Chipmunkdavis (talk) 18:15, 27 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi thank for the advice, this is exactly what i wanted to do but i can't find any link to upload new version of the file, can you help me please. Kingroyos (talk)

If you have a global account that works on commons, then a new version can be uploaded on the commons page for the file. Under the File History section, below the table, there is a link to "Upload a new version of this file", where you just upload it from the computer and give a summary of changes. Dodo edit

Hello Kingroyos, you added a couple of lines to Dodo which are exact copies from your source which claims as far as I can see copyright. I know it looks like nitpicking. And I know, sometimes when the meaning of the words might change it might even be necessary to follow the source. But here it is not the case. The source is even disputable. Science assumes but is not certain that the abundance of food is the reason for the loss of flight. Secondly, is there any proof that scientists in 17th century already recognized the significance of the death of the dodo? In hindsight yes, but at that moment? I have my doubts about that. Could you please rephrase your addition? Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 21:43, 17 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Mauritius question edit

Do you know what is the capital of the Moka District is? Is it Moka or Quartier Militaire? I've found sources that say both. BCS (Talk) 14:07, 19 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

hmmmm, as far as i know these districts don't have any capital officially. In the past, this article Mauritius included a list of capital for each district and i remove it later. (may be some website eventually copied it). According to the list it was Quartier Militaire.Kingroyos (talk) 15:50, 22 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
You see my friend... I said the same thing. The only capital we have is Port Louis. The rest are main town/villages depending on the number of inhabitants. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 15:56, 22 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport edit

Your revert here clearly shows that you lack knowledge on policies formed at WP:AIRPORT. Go through Wikipedia:WikiProject Airports/page content. And if you feel that the table is outdated, then update it, instead of creating a page layout as per your own will.  Abhishek  Talk 10:25, 14 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

The edit that was reverted is here, the guidelines which you are referring does not state that:
  • 1. the native name and the image of the airport is not allowed,
  • 2. destination table is compulsory nor is a destination map prohibited, other articles also contain destination map (EX:Dublin_Airport#Destinations Map),
  • 3. the external links which i added is the official carrier website and the other one the Civil Aviation Department from the Government website.
I must point out that i removed the Airlines and destinations table not only because it was outdated, the only official reference available [1] does not specify which airlines specifically served a particular destination but instead provide them on a separate list, which mean we won't be able to update the table accurately. Therefore to avoid contradiction with the map which is up to date, i removed the table and instead added a list of airlines without specifying the destinations, info about destinations was available on the map. You should also know that at the bottom of the page it state that Finally, remember that you're in no way obliged to follow all, or even any, of these guidelines to contribute an article. Your edits seem to be POV influenced, the materials which you removed should be restored.Kingroyos (talk) 08:36, 18 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Since you are not willing to participate in the discussion to restore the content which you removed without valid reasons, i'm restoring it.Kingroyos (talk) 11:35, 10 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
That doesn't mean you're allowed to intentionally destroy the formatting of a page. If I-- or any other long-standing wikipedia user-- visits an airport page, we expect it to follow the same formatting as any other airport page. The note at the bottom applies if you're creating a new article (thus the language "to contribute an article" rather than "to contribute to an article". I.e., they don't want to deter someone from creating a new article just because they can't follow the required formatting. However, once the required formatting is in place, you can't destroy it. If you feel some information in the article is out of date, it must be updated within the requirements of WP:AIRPORT. BeIsKr (talk) 19:23, 14 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
As i have already mention above. Is adding the picture of the airport, external links and remove the table mean that i destroyed the formatting of a page?, although you are saying that the guidelines should be follow, my edit does not deter any of them.
Concerning the destination table, it seem you did not read what i written, so i'm reposting it here: i removed the Airlines and destinations table not only because it was outdated, the only official reference available [2] does not specify which airlines specifically served a particular destination but instead provide them on a separate list, which mean we won't be able to update the table accurately. (for example if the route Mauritius to Singapore is served by Air Mauritius, another user can claim that its Singapore Airlines). Also to avoid contradiction with the map which is up to date, i removed the table and instead added the official list of airlines without specifying the destinations, info about destinations was available on the map.
Note that if ever you know any other official reference which state which airline serves a particular destination, then the table can be added and updated on a regular basis. This is because we should not provide the readers a table base on assumptions and not up to date.Kingroyos (talk) 20:17, 14 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
One should be able to find timetables on the individual airlines' websites, at a minimum, though I don't feel like searching the individual websites for it. I reverted your edit only because you removed the standard "airlines and destinations" section, so feel free to update and modify the page as long as that section retains the standard format for the airlines and destinations section as per WP:AIRPORT. BeIsKr (talk) 10:13, 15 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

I hope you are well and thriving!! WikiAfrica has just put out a call for two Wikipedians in Residence. One in Cape Town at WikiAfrica, at the Africa Centre; and the other for WikiAfrica Cameroon in Douala, at doual’art. If you are interested, please contact either Marilyn [marilyn.doualabell doualart.org] for the WikiAfrica Cameroon call or Isla [islahf africacentre.net] for the WikiAfrica position in Cape Town.

Events that took place after 1968 edit

Hello Kingroyos. My friend, why do you keep removing my contributions to the Mauritius history page (concerning the above)? Are they untrue? Kind regards. JLindsayD (talk) 18:23, 28 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi JLindsayD, as i indicated in the edit summary the contents which your are adding may not be necessary untrue, but since the material which you are adding is doubtful, harmful (and possibly slanderous) it must be removed immediately (see Template:Citation needed). However if you can prove it by adding reliable references (see Wikipedia:Verifiability, Wikipedia:Citing sources, Wikipedia:No original research), then i and the other editors will not remove it again, you should also adhere to the Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, you must have notice that i rephrase one of the sentence and add a reference to prove it. Also this is the main article of the country and should include only major events, smaller details should be rather added at History of Mauritius. However i understand that you are new and therefore not aware of these policies of Wikipedia. I admit that i should have inform you about all this on your talk page and i'm really sorry for that. Cheers Kingroyos (talk) 18:47, 28 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kingroyos. Thnks for the prompt reply. From now on, I shall include references. Concerning the inclusion of "slanderous" materials, I am rather surprised. (: Did I tarnish the reputation of anyone? Kind regards JLindsayD (talk) 05:30, 29 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

The contents which you added, for example there were accusations of censorship by the government at that time and General elections were not held on a regular basis, however i did not really want to say this to you, it is just a quote which i have taken here.Kingroyos (talk) 06:10, 29 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Accusations? I am stating facts. ( : I was a young man at that time, and I do remember that newspapers were in fact censored, and the Generation election due to take place in 1972 was postponed and was held in 1976. (I'll get the citations, or references, or whatever, as soon I find the time.) But then, it's just history repeating itself. The same things always take place when a new party emerges. (In 1943, there were strikes, people were killed and party leaders were imprisoned ... etc). But you look like an interesting chap. We might have a nice chat someday. For your information, I am politically neutral. When u reach my age, you might feel that way, too!

Let's talk something, else. Did u bring some changes to "Freshwater Fauna"?

Kind regards JLindsayD (talk) 05:17, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

You misunderstood me, as i have mention before i'm not arguing whether they are true or not nor i'm i trying to censored what you added, i just asked you to add some reliable sources as reference for anyone to verify it and the sentences should be written in a neutral way, as unsourced material may be challenged and removed and it was not complying with the policies which i mentioned above. I'm also politically neutral, however i don't want to discuss about politics. Concerning the other question i removed this section [3], i hope this was not added by you [.Kingroyos (talk) 19:50, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

I am only editing "Freshwater fauna". I am not touching "marine life". Not very knowledgeable about that that stuff, I am afraid. The only thing I know about the sea right now is fishing!   I might add one thing or two about "Amateur fishing" later on. JLindsayD (talk) 06:21, 6 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm glad to see that we managed to agree about the political party column on the list of Presidents. Of course they are candidates of a political party, most of them are long-time members of their respective party (that's especially the case with former President Jugnauth, who resigned a year ago) and they are elected by MPs who are party members themselves. There's no doubt for me that political party column should stay. As for list of Prime Ministers, as I already said - the details you added have one major problem: they don't include the dates when a PM entered office and when he left office. You version only include the years of a PM's term, without any dates on it. That clearly isn't one of good standards of Wiki. You have many lists of officeholders on Wiki which include elections when they were elected and re-elected, but all those lists include dates when they entered office and when they left office. List of Mauritian PMs shouldn't be the exception. If you look around, you'll see that separate articles, about every Mauritian PM (including the first PM Seewoosagur Ramgoolam), include dates when a PM entered office and when he left office. Cheers! --Sundostund (talk) 12:52, 9 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I have a suggestion for you: try to model your version after the list on Prime Minister of Jamaica article. That list include both dates when a PM entered office and when he left office, and years of election and re-election. It looks like a perfect solution from my point of view. --Sundostund (talk) 12:56, 9 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Kingroyos! Congratulations for your new version of List of Prime Ministers, it really looks great! I just added a date (12 March 1992) on it, to clarify when Commonwealth realm ceased to exist and when republic was proclaimed. Also, I remodeled List of Presidents to look in the same way as List of PMs. Those lists now looks perfectly from my point of view, and I again must congratulate you for your new version of List of PMs! Article importances in Wikiproject France edit

Hi, it is usual, I believe, to leave the rating of the importance of an article to a project to editors who are involved in the project. Could I therefore kindly request that you do not rate articles for WikiProject France with which you do not appear to be associated? Of course it is fine to add the project template, but you can leave the importance blank, and someone will get around to it. Eventually. Thanks. Mcewan (talk) 13:50, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I usually accessed articles based on this table Template:Importance scheme, there is no need to be a member of WikiProject France to rate the importance.Kingroyos (talk) 05:34, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
That table can be overridden for specific projects. This is the scale for WP:FRANCE. Other projects will probably have their own. And you are right, you don't have to be a member of a project to rate an article. But you do need to consider the importance from the perspective of the project, which some of your decisions seem not to have done. Mcewan (talk) 10:41, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Renaming of Mauritian political parties edit

Hi Kingroyos. I notice that you've recently requested deletion of a number of language redirects in order to rename Mauritian political parties to their French titles. Talk:Coat of arms of Mauritius edit

If you disagree with the decision of the RFC, fair enough; but please file a closure review at WP:AN. You should not revert or change the close. If you continue to do so, then your edits will be considered disruptive and you will be blocked from editing. GiantSnowman 15:35, 28 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

I have started a closure review at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive264#RfC closure review: Coat of arms of Mauritius. Cunard (talk) 18:06, 28 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
