Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Jay Munly - Wikipedia Page edit

From AngusWOOF: edit

  • Please see WP:NALBUM as to what standards must be met for albums to have separate articles from their music artists. If you can dig up critical reviews from major news sources, not interviews or passing mentions, then that will help. I mentioned charting in national charts like Billboard 200 because that is one of the criteria listed there. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 23:41, 2 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
---> Xx rapunzel xx (talk) 00:50, 3 May 2020 (UTC) Understood - unfortunately, Jay Munly isn't super-famous so there hasn't been much past or present coverage on him or his albums. If possible, I might add more to what I've listed on the page already.Reply
Please also note that if only 1000 copies of albums are being released, this makes it that much harder to show notability since there's no charting outside of the immediate area. Unless that's only for some limited editions. Youll need to find more critical reviews and reception. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 01:43, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • The stage names are tricky as they aren't listed on the albums themselves. If you look at template:infobox musical artist/doc it says not to use fan nicknames like "Nippy" or "King of Pop", but use ones that he's actually credited on officiallly in albums and news. I've added Munly Munly and Munly J. Munly back to the list. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 23:47, 2 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
---> Xx rapunzel xx (talk) 00:50, 3 May 2020 (UTC) I see - thanks! I've seen many variants of his names around the internet - there's not much consistency. "Munly" - just "Munly" - has been used on the albums "Blurry" and "de Dar He" - can this be re-added as well?Reply

  • Also in general, please write with a neutral tone. No "Mr. Thompson" honorifics. This isn't a hagiography to try to promote the subject. If you are connected to the subject in any way, like you contribute to their website, or have family/business/organizational connections to him, or you're getting some compensation (like discounted merch/shout out/tickets) you need to declare WP:COI. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 23:47, 2 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
---> Xx rapunzel xx (talk) 00:50, 3 May 2020 (UTC) No problem - I used "Mr" and "Ms" out of respect but I will change that. I have no personal connection to the subject at all. I'm just a fan who's doing all this out of love.Reply

From others: edit

4/28/20: I see you, 98.210.243.135, from/around Soquel, California. I've never been to the state but would like to someday.

I thought about adding sources like obituaries but I thought I actually might be crossing a line there.* Someone else undid your edits - I think Wikipedia thinks it's "controversial information", but I'm not sure why.

Facebook and Instagram have acknowledged his birthday on August 31 but I don't think Wikipedia finds those sources credible, so... it's almost like a detective knowing a suspect is guilty but can't find the evidence to prove it. Almost.

Thank you for posting, though. I've never seen the third obituary nor the JCS review.

I recently read on the 'Munly' FB group that munlymunly.com isn't Munly's actual site. That's disappointing because I really like the site and I think it reflects his sense of humor well. Now that I know this, I'm wondering if most of the information on there is made up. I might just continue thinking that it's his own website anyway because I'm stubborn and it makes me happy. But that info should be removed, I guess. (ETA: It is removed.)

(*) I did have the nerve to post the birth year, though, from one of those free background check websites. Interestingly, there's a range of years that comes up. I think chose the median, or I chose the one where lots of other identifying information came up - more than any one person should know. I posted it, then I deleted it, then posted it there again. I hope it's okay. - Xx rapunzel xx

4/30/20: 98.210.243.135 here... I received a message stating that the "controversial information" was Munly's claim of having lost an eye while "running around with a gang of Irish Catholics." Perhaps he has a glass eye. I've never edited on Wikipedia; therefore, I don't know how to properly source information - so this is another reason why my additions got removed. Look at the links to his parents' obituaries - Munly's name is derived from his mother's maiden name of "Manley;" he actually had three siblings, not two; his parents and younger brother have since passed away; his father and younger brother successively managed Skull Creek Oil. You are correct with Munly's birth year of 1970. Maybe there is a way to add this information without any conflicts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:643:8800:D440:A0D6:7FC5:26AE:BB97 (talk) 01:46, 1 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

5/2/20: Losing an eye while running around with a gang of Irish Catholics - really? I guess you never know with him, do you.

I noticed the whole name thing a while back, but I kept whatever this page had, especially since this is only place I've ever seen that information...

I will change what I can. I think those sources are okay. (That's a lot of death to deal with in a short amount of time, though, damn.)

However, Wikipedia has now declined both of the articles I've submitted for Blurry and de Dar He: "Not enough to be separately notable from Jay Munly's article" (reviewer name: AngusWOOF - I guess they're hiring dogs to handle the review process now) and "Still don't see how this meets WP:NALBUM. Please show where it has charted on Billboard." That's a little mean if you ask me. It's kind of defeating but I'm sure I'll find another way to add this information.

Like I said, I'll change what I can, and maybe some order will be restored to this chaotic world we're living in. - Xx rapunzel xx (talk 16:20, 2 May 2020 (UTC)) ETA: Another comment I found by AngusWOOF: "cleanup infobox, the aliases aren't clear official stage names, remove non-notable awards" - I'm usually a dog person, but sheesh... I think they know that Munly is a cat person and they don't like it (?) - Xx rapunzel xx (talk 16:20, 2 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

5/3/20: (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/2601:643:8800:D440:9DAA:E62:8B55:4C76) - 98.210.243.135, was that you? It probably doesn't matter. Anyway, in the interest of being thorough, it looks like I went overboard, which I was a little afraid was going to happen. It's why I shied away from that info in the first place. Everything looks good now, so :: thumbs up :: The most important thing is that it's to Munly's satisfaction, should he ever read this... - Xx rapunzel xx (talk) 19:10, 3 May 2020 (UTC) ETA: This page is undergoing a big overhaul! Wow. Not sure which way is up anymore. It's a lot of work to be doing on a Sunday IMO... - Xx rapunzel xx (talk) 21:55, 3 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

5/4/20: Well, 98.210.243.135, we tried. If you're still reading this, this is one of the warnings I've received: "Also, please remove any obituaries that aren't coming from news sources." I've been pulling out my very long hair over all these changes the past few days. Maybe I'll move onto puzzles like everyone else. - Xx rapunzel xx (talk) 21:15, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

5/19/20: For user 98.210.243.135 - I found another article that gives credence to the theory that Munly does have a glass eye after all... https://www.westword.com/music/westword-music-96-awards-showcase-5056698 - Xx rapunzel xx (talk) 04:25, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Criteria for uploading photos edit

Anyone out there?

I was trying my hand at making userboxes and I uploaded a few photos from this site (https://www.netclipart.com/us/) to the Commons. Unfortunately, I've been blocked since past attempts have been unsuccessful. The editor who blocked me says this is "unfree" art but I disagree. Am I interpreting something incorrectly here? I told myself I wasn't going to attempt to upload any more pics, but I really thought I got it right this time. Sincerely, Xx rapunzel xx (talk) 01:35, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

The licensing on netclipart.com is not unambiguously compatible with the licensing required by Wikipedia. They have user-contributed content with a best-effort promise to take down copyright materials. That's not really good enough. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 02:24, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Alrighty, thanks. I appreciate the explanation. - Xx rapunzel xx (talk) 19:07, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Slim Cessna's Auto Club - Wikipedia Page edit

6/6/20: Looks like there's a Mexican (?) SCAC fan here - hello! (189.218.31.16) I see the edit you made and I agree with you. I mean, I just became a fan late last year, but I never saw them as an experimental rock band... or any kind of rock band, really. I like the term "alt-country" because it's not traditional country, and "gothic country" sounds too dark. I have no idea what "gothabilly" is supposed to mean and I'm not sure I want to know... I remember Slim Cessna saying he doesn't like that term anyway. "Gothic country" fits the Lee Lewis Harlots more and maybe the last two Munly solo albums. As for DBUK, "experimental" is okay I guess and I honestly don't know what you would call the Lupercalians. "Experimental" is just a euphemism for "Miscellaneous" IMO. I think they are in a genre all their own.

Help me! edit

Please help me with... an issue with name verification. The subject of this article (Jay Munly) is known by a few names, but his official name is Munly Jay Munly. I came across an interview cited on the talk page where he shows his ID to the interviewer, who confirms that MJM is his official identity. This is as close as I (a fan) can get to an official verification. This article recently had its “ban” on editing lifted because unregistered users keep changing the name and registered users keep undoing the edits… and this has started again. At some point this needs to be resolved. There have been users who have been helpful in this matter, but perhaps another user can give this a fresh look and their own input. To add: the article I’m referring to. [1] Xx rapunzel xx (talk) 08:31, 29 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
