Indian motorcycles

thanks.. request you to go through some of the articles here if you have time http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Indian_Motorcycles Most of them were copy paste stuff/ non-npov stuff before I have tried my best to make it to wikipedia standards.. Comments are welcome on how to improve it/ on any mistakes made by me.. trakesht (talk) 16:04, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

WP page stats

ww2censor,

Many moons back you wondered if it was possible to get stats on WP page views. I've just now come across this site: http://stats.grok.se/

--89.101.220.128 (talk) 20:27, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I have been using this since earlier this year and was actually looking up some stats yesterday. What surprises me most if that the portals don't get much traffic and some pages get no traffic at all. Surprisingly also the Philately portal get about half what the Ireland portal gets. Thanks ww2censor (talk) 20:35, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Impartial insight

Hi. Hoping you can help. Need impartial insight into an External Links discussion. And, given that our paths don't cross that often, I think you might be a good candidate. In short: An editor added an external link to an open Wiki site on the Tory Island article. (And then went on to add the same link on projects of other languages). I removed it here, pointing out to the editor that: the link appeared to be added to drive traffic to "her site" rather than for the benefit of this project (WP:LINKSPAM), that it appeared to represent a conflict of interest (WP:COI) and was an open Wiki with few users, low stability and limited content that didn't represent a "unique resource". (WP:LINKSTOAVOID) Can you do me a quick favour, and see whether you think the last of the three links on the External Links section on the Tory Island article looks appropriate to you? Under the relevant guidelines? Cheers. Guliolopez (talk) 00:09, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

I agree with your view of this issue. It definitely fails the external links, "Links normally to be avoided" # 12, with just 31 unique pages on an open wiki, that looks more like a private wiki from the edit history, it does not have "a substantial history of stability and a substantial number of editors" and this prove it. If you want I can also add it to my watchlist and leave a spamlink or coi tag on the editors talk page. If necessary we could ask for the page to be semi-protected so that only registered users may edit the page. I'll be happy to help out if you just ask me to intervene even as a non-admin. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 00:43, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
I have also added a supporting comment to the article's talk page. ww2censor (talk) 02:40, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
OK - Thanks for taking the time to have a look. Guliolopez (talk) 11:14, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Ireland

Hi there; I saw your note at User talk:SandyGeorgia. If she declines, I'd be happy to take a look at the citations and sources, and provide a list of issues at the talk page. Cheers, –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 03:33, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

It seems Sandy is busy or away and anyway she was not really willing to look at the inline citations in Ireland, so would you consider doing so. As I mentioned on her talk page, Ireland was recently demoted from GA and if possible we would like to raise its status again, so any advise would be welcome as it seems you are a regular GA participant. Beside finding some citations the other criticisms seem to have been taken care of, but again your advise will be appreciated. TIA ww2censor (talk) 05:02, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

The red message at the bottom of your page

I followed a link here to read the comment about Ireland but there is a red banner at the bottom of your talk pages that obscures the message. Could you move it somehow so the bottom message can be read? Just a request. (I am using Firefox 3.0.3, if that makes a difference.) Regards, —Mattisse (Talk) 17:21, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

I experimented a bit and think this is better and clears the text. Please let me know how it looks for you now. ww2censor (talk) 18:38, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes. All cleared up (unless this addition to the section gets convered)! Thanks, —Mattisse (Talk) 18:49, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
My addition didn't get covered, so all is OK. —Mattisse (Talk) 18:50, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up. You forced me to experiment and find a solution. BTW, were you intending to give some GA advise for Ireland? Thanks ww2censor (talk) 18:53, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
I know there was some kind of lengthy GAR, but I don't know what problems the article has or what the complaints were. And I only know a little bit about Ireland. I could help with copy editing prose issues, if that is one of its problems. —Mattisse (Talk) 19:51, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Actually there was a lengthy discussion about how the individual GAR was executed and I was rather upset at the personal attack, for even raising or questioning the way the GAR was performed, and for which I never received an apology. Then a community GAR took place which you can review here and tell me anything you feel useful or constructive. I revised most of the citations but I am sure the prose could do with a polish. There are still some citation tags and unfortunately not many of the citations are from books, mostly from websites, though mainly official, so reliable ones. IMHO this should really be an FA because it is the lead article of the whole Ireland WikiProject, but I suppose that will require some work. You can always leave you comments on the talk page so that other editors get the benefit of your wisdom, but anyway TIA. ww2censor (talk) 20:54, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
I probably would get upset just reading the discussion. One of my wiki pals threatened to leave Wikipedia over it and also felt he was attacked. I did remove a {{fact}} tag in the lead wanting a source confirming that part of Northern Ireland belonged to the UK. (That seemed ridiculous.) If you really want to get upset, take an article to FAC. Not usually a pleasant experience. —Mattisse (Talk) 22:19, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Been there, done that, and was pleasantly surprised it was not as bad as I had expected though there are some critical editors around. Generally I try to remain calm and don't stoop to their level. If they are rude and ignorant, that is their problem and I don't want to become one of them by replying in kind though I might really really feel like it. I saw your initial tag removal. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 23:01, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

There's No One As Irish As Barack O'Bama

Hi, you rated this. Unfortunately, your rating is not much use to those working on an article unless you explain your reasoning. Indeed is is dispiriting to have an article C-rated with no clue as to what it still lacks or how it can be improved. The project box says "(If you rated the article please give a short summary at comments to explain the ratings and/or to identify the strengths and weaknesses.)" - so I'm guessing your forgot. Please don't, these comments are vital to helping editors. If you've not time to leave them, please don't rate articles.--Scott MacDonald (talk) 08:30, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Wikiproject Northern Ireland change

I'd like to apologise for my removal of wikiproject Ireland on the Van Morrison album talk pages, because it must have taken you a bit of time reverting my edits. I should take more time in future understanding fully what things do and why they're there on wikipedia. Thanks Kitchen roll (talk) 17:29, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Not a real problem at all. As I mentioned many articles can be assessed by several WikiProjects and many Irish article have both Ireland, Northern Ireland and even Belfast project assessment templates. If you feel qualified to add more NI templates, please do so as the NI project seems to be relatively active. The more publicity the better. You seem to be doing some great VM editing. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 17:36, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Thankyou, I'll try and put in as many Northern Ireland templates as I can on the VM pages. Kitchen roll (talk) 17:43, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
You may want to check out this NI assessment classification page first. ww2censor (talk) 17:51, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Airmail translation

I have recently gotten more active with Wikipedia editing after having been away for several months. One of my usual tasks is to work together with Tirkfl (I proofread his translations from German to English and he proofreads mine). He has quite a list of translations that I am trying to proofread right now, including the one on Airmail.

I notice that you have made a number of edits on this page since he completed the original translation. Would you like to continue with that, or would you like me to proofread the article (on the Translation/Airmail page)? If I do that, I would be comparing the page to the version of the German article that Tirkfl originally started with and it is possible that I would undo many/some of your later edits.

I don't expect that my proofreading and editing would take very many days, so you could have the article back again soon. But do let me know, since I don't want my edits reverted as "vandalism". It is quite a bit of work to do a reasonable job of proofreading.

Thank you. Scbarry (talk) 21:46, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

I originally asked Tirkfl if he would help with the translation of the German article as I wanted to improve the English article that is very deficient. I only intended to use the German article as a basis for the improvements not as a direct translation. Besides which most German articles are devoid of citations and references which this really needs. There is some prose to be removed and quite a lot to add; some of which I have already done as you will see from the history. I am not sure if proofreading will really be of help due to the major changes that have been and will be made before it replaces the current Airmail article, but thanks you for the offer. I intend to continue working on it but have been sidetracked in recent months and really must get back to it again. On that basis, you may still want to proofread it, but if you think it unnecessary, just let me know that you have moved on to other things. Thanks ww2censor (talk) 05:12, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

The translation is still "open", as you can see from the translation template below. If you want to mark it as complete, so no one will be tempted to change it from its current state due to that, you can do that. If you don't want anyone to modify the page you have been working on, you could also place a nice message at the top of the page, since it is not currently part of an article. That being said, I can look at it, but if the changes you have already made are too extensive (meaning that it looks like it would be counter-productive to continue), I will let you know. If that's OK with you, let me know. I probably won't get a chance to look at it today, though.

Scbarry (talk) 11:50, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

I have proofread, copyedited and improved the article as far down as the Europe section of WWI, so please don't do anything with the upper portion unless there are some glaring errors. If you are going to review the rest it will be great to improve the translated prose. When you have done that, if you have the time, we can close proofreading in the template. Based on your advise, I will add an under construction template to the top of the article. Thanks for the advise. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 18:09, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Please wait until I have finished the proofreading before you begin your work. I usually set up the page for editing and then hang up the phone, so I can work on the proofreading for a couple of hours before I dial up again and save it. I would be quite unhappy if my couple of hours of editing were wasted because there had been some intervening edits. OK? Thanks. (Glad you are pleased!) Scbarry (talk) 01:12, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
I had not really intended to get stuck in quite yet, especially as you have been proofreading, so just let me know when you are finished. I don't intend to make you unhappy. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 01:33, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

I have completed the proofreading as far as I know. Here are a few notes about it.

  • I am an American. I may therefore have used some American spellings or meanings which you might need to change. I also believe that the Brits use fewer commas than the Yanks, so you may want to change some of that, too. (OTOH, I may have unknowingly left a few out.) I figure that's a fairly small price to pay. ;-)
  • In a few cases, I wasn't sure of some of the translated words, so they are marked in comments. The comments are intended for you and you can remove them as you see fit. They aren't intended to be cast in stone for all eternity, just to let you know what's going on. (Tirkfl also put a few of these in his work.)
  • I'm not even vaguely a philatelist. For specialist terms, I rely on you both to know the right words, even if they sound slightly odd to me.
  • I did not add any of the other German pictures to the page. I don't know if they're in Commons or not, but I figure you can do that. If you need translations of any captions, let me know.

Take a look and let me know if all is well with the proofreading, then I'll close the translation template.

That's it for now. Scbarry (talk) 03:06, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

I've set the translation template to Completed. Scbarry (talk) 15:40, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

St Andrew's cross

Another question, if I may. I just proofread Sheet of stamps. One of the links at the bottom of the article is Andreaskreuz. The German article on this is pretty interesting. Apparently there was a time when some sheets of German stamps weren't completely filled with stamps. This was because, due to the denomination of the stamps, the PO would have had to collect some odd amount of money, and they wanted to keep things simple. To avoid having forgers use the empty spaces to make forgeries on real PO paper, Xs were printed there. These Xs are also collected nowadays. Is there an English term (and article) for these St. Andrew's crosses in philately?

Thanks. Scbarry (talk) 20:08, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
Most of the translations, such as Sheet of stamps is devoid of reference and sources, so I would be loath to just start a new page with unsourced material, though interesting, without some suitable verification. ww2censor (talk) 23:47, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, the question was really if there is an English term for these things, in order to fill in the red link or use the appropriate term in the Sheet of stamps article. :-) Scbarry (talk) 00:38, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Interesting though I was not able to understand all of the German article. I have seen the St. Andrew's Cross used in various philatelic situations. Royal Mail training school use them for something I don't remember. Bermuda postal censorship used them on some censor labels during WWII, and based on the article I seem to recall seeing them fill some blank spaces on some sheets of booklet stamps. Where to go from here as the German article has no sources to help us and I don't recall seeing anything written about this topic. ww2censor (talk) 01:01, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
How about this? ww2censor (talk) 05:47, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Just for fun, I did a quick translation of the cross article and put it at Wikipedia talk:Translation/St. Andrew's cross (philately). (I thought it would be fun if you could read it and I was tired of proofreading for a little while.) You're quite right; there are absolutely no references. If you don't think it's good for the philately project, we can easily delete it; it didn't take long to do. Have fun with it. Scbarry (talk) 05:53, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Cool! And that one's on a British stamp, not a German one, so the terminology must be OK. Thanks. :-) Scbarry (talk) 05:57, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
(2 edit conflicts) I'll have a look, but in the meantime here is another image I found, though it is German. ww2censor (talk) 05:59, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
St Andrews cross on a military air letter during WWII currently on eBay. So there are lots of uses in philately, something that would need to be expanded and sourced. Thanks for now; must get to bed. ww2censor (talk) 06:17, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I had two edit conflicts, too. We're thinking on the same wavelength.

You've already added some references! Does that mean you think it's worth adding to Wiki? I'd like to have someone (like Tirkfl) look it over to make sure the terminology I chose is the correct translation. Tirkfl is Austrian, so he'll probably know about some of the stuff, too. I think he'll be off for a while, but I don't know when he'll be back. The article seems to be very Autria-centric, since it seems that these were used in several countries at various times. Scbarry (talk) 06:22, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

If you do want to add it as an article, take a look at the mess of redirection and "helpful hints" that occur when you want to look at St. Andrew's cross. A nice disambig page would be a good idea.
I have to get to bed, too, though it's not quite as late here as it is there. Scbarry (talk) 06:38, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

You've also now added a picture, which is exactly perfect. Thanks!

Should I add a translation template and move it to Wiki now? Also, should it be spelled with an apostrophe or not? Vielen Dank. Scbarry (talk) 14:16, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

I did move it to a real article, changed the redirect page to a disambig page and changed all the other redirects to point to the disambig (I hope I got them all!). If you want to edit the page further, look for it in the article namespace now. Cheers! Scbarry (talk) 15:43, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

fr:Daum

I have deleted the article (through the place fr:Daum/copyvio, to avoid accidental restoration), with that words : « copyvio, depuis l'origine, depuis diverses sources ». I have looked for a lot of single sentences in the first version (and the following) of the article, and some came from the French version (with that silly Flash...) of the Daum Website, and some sentences from other sources. I will add again a redirection from fr:Daum to the right article fr:Daum Frères and add the two pages in my watchlist, in order to have a chance to see if something wrong comes again. Hégésippe | ±Θ± 06:34, 26 November 2008 (UTC) – French talk page

I have also seen after the first deletion of « Daum », that the last seven versions of « Daum Frères » were also including copyvios from varied sources  , but it's not a big problem for me... Hégésippe | ±Θ± 07:11, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Online stamps catalogs?

You have reverted changes here. Do you consider online catalogs an irrelevant resource for stamp collectors? If so, please explain. If not, why won't you add other links which you find more relevant? —Preceding unsigned comment added by JoshXF (talkcontribs) 07:44, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Online catalogues are already mentioned in the catalogues section and most of the links that were added are spam links and fail the external links criteria. The WNS is a valid link and the Wikibooks link is already in the External links section. All the others either require registration or are catalogue of dealers trying to promote their sales which is not allowed and these may even have been added by the companies themselves. Indeed most of the online catalogues listed under individual countries should be removed too. Hope that helps you. ww2censor (talk) 18:40, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for answering. Where exactly are they mentioned? Could you please include a link? The WNS does seem relevant (do you think it should be integrated in the complete list?). The WikiBooks Worldwide Stamp Catalogue is not mentioned on this list but seems relevant. The Colnect Stamps Catalogue seems to be a community project according to what they declare here and perhaps should be included as well. The Free Stamps Catalogue and Pierron's Online Catalogue are indeed of dealers but do provide some useful information since pictures are included. I've also come across www.europeanstamps.net which declare that they provide pictures of 80% of the Eurpoean stamps. Please advise on how you think this information is best integrated into the list or possibly other related subject. Thanks. --JoshXF (talk) 20:07, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Austria Netto Katalog

Hello! I jsut translated the article Austria Netto Katalog, but I don't know the English equivalent to "Gerichtszustellungsmarke". In German it means a stamp, which was used by courts to deliver forms or notifications. Please have a look. Kind regards, — Tirk· “…” 12:16, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

In English these catalogues are commonly known simply as Netto catalogues. The current name "Austria Netto Katalog" give the distinct impression that this is a catalogue of only Austrian stamps. Some of the language seems rather promotional but that can be changed. Regarding your actual question, it is a revenue stamp but I don't know that there is a specific English philatelic term for this type of stamp. This eBay lot describes it as a "court tax stamp", but it still a revenue stamp. ww2censor (talk) 18:11, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Okay, thank you! Actually they are catalogues of only Austrian stamps, coins, or whatever. — Tirk· “…”20:05, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

User talk Hohenloh

You say in your edit summary that you are still confused; you do indeed seem to be confused. The British islands are in the north-west, not the north-east of Europe. Other than that you are maybe not assuming good faith on my part when you wrote it, I can't really understand what point you were trying to make. Perhaps you could contribute to one of the article or policy talk pages, if you have anything coherent to say that is. Best wishes, --John (talk) 15:10, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Indeed, but did you read the edit summery? Flagicons in infoboxes fail MOS:FLAG by indicating places of birth or death or nationality, which is why I removed them. Nowadays most bios don't have them anymore. ww2censor (talk) 02:37, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

  • (reply) I think my watchlist crept into the 2000's once. Anyhoo, I should be back again properly in the next few days. Unfortunately, things in the real world took precedence in the summer, although it's been mostly a combination of inertia, my computer going on the fritz and a lack of a proper Internet connection for a while that kept me away in the last few months. Ah, dialup connections don't quite hack it anymore, but I am luxuriating in a proper broadband connection at the moment. Watching cheesy 1980's music videos on Youtube because I can :). Actually, it might not be as bad as you think (or fear). I see the Donard Eircom exchange got upgraded or was about to be upgraded to BB recently, although distance from the exchange on creaky phone lines might be a problem. Mobile broadband coverage looks a bit marginal from what I can see though. Just about covered by the major operators, but what with the mountains, who knows? :) FlowerpotmaN·(t) 19:46, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

picture copyright

Hi, I am fairly new at this and I want to learn. You removed a picture I put on the article on Dennis O'Rear, This picture was taken by a friend with their digital camera and sent by email to me to use. Is there a copyright? If so does their willingly sending it to me give me the right to post it? Did I need to tell Wikipedia that ( I didn't tag it as "I owned it"-which in a sense I do) I have reposted it but since you removed the Biography section the picture came out much larger then before.

Again I can take constructive critiscim (I can tell from your page some others can't!) Just let me know so I don't mess up again.

Thanks Cleobatra (talk) 23:39, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

You did not follow the directions that were given. It really seems you don't know what you are doing yet, so listen up. Up AGIAN uploaded the image and OVERWROTE and existing image that has been here for years. Bad boy! Basically that can be regarded as vandalism by some and may get you blocked, but I think you just don't understand the procedures.
You also uploaded the image as File:DJOREAR.jpg, as I mentioned, but did not use that file which is identical to the overwriting file. I will put that file into the article and resize it for you. In removing the biography section head it does not affect the image size, but if you use "thumb" parameter, as I have just done, the image complies with images manual of style and will look fine. I have done this for you. Sounds to me like you need to familiarise yourself with much of how wikipedia works, so just ask if you don't find the answer easily. If you had asked this question on the media copyright page, where you originally started, you may have received a wider audience rather than asking on a specific user take page. BTW, what is your relationship to Dennis because you have only edited that page (and 2 minor related edits elsewhere) and not contributed anything else to the encyclopaedia.
Regarding the image copyright, did you actually read the page I sent you to and did you read what I wrote? If you did, you would not ask the question. However, we take copyright very seriously here and badly licenced images are deleted quite quickly. If the friend was not paid for his taking the photo, then he owns the copyright. He may be happy to assign you, or the subject, the copyright. That is up to him and you to figure out. If we assume that he has implicitly given you the copyright, then you need to select a suitable licence for wikipedia, such as {{PD-self}} or another one from here. Hope that all helps. Cheers and good luck. ww2censor (talk) 00:12, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks--I am a wikipedia writer virgin, actually a retired librarian who is more use to reading then writing.
Dennis is a friend of a friend, but since he seems to have large internet footprints I thought he would be a good subject to start with. That was my only reason for picking him. I have been editing and working on that 1 article before I moved on. It was not as easy as I thought.
I see where there are lots of "orphaned" articles--I think I might try working on some of them next-might be easier.
Thanks for the help Cleobatra (talk) 01:34, 5 January 2009
There is no need to start a new section for a reply; just continue the discussion in the section where it started, but indent each posting by using a colon to indent. I left you a welcome note which has many links to guidelines, policy and help that you should look at. Besides copyright, you need to also to be aware that when starting a new biographic articles they must be able to pass the notablity criteria and just because they happen to be someone you know may not be the best way for a newcomer. You may be better of to start by doing small edits to existing articles by way of improving them and if you still have library access you may be able to consult sources not available to most of us. On the other hand you could become familiar with the wiki by working on a topic you are familiar with. There are many portals and wikiprojects one or more might interest you and they would lead you to articles or topics that interest you and be areas you can constructively contribute to.
I have fixed the references in Dennis O'Rear which are known as inline citations. Have a look at how they are done; just like printing a book, the refs are complied by the software to show up in a reference or footnote section. The numbers will not reference anything unless they are coded correctly and you don't need to enter them in the reference section, just put them inline where they confirm the prose. Celtic tiger

In a follow up to my reply on my talk page, I see that Celtic tiger got demoted, although that might just be Wikipedia imitating life ;) FlowerpotmaN·(t) 20:01, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

But it was demoted back in December 2006 before the wind was knocked out of the beast. ww2censor (talk) 20:16, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Bringing posting on Help page to your attention

I just posted this on the Help page, but the original posting is so old that I wanted to make sure someone interested would see it.

"Well, one way to find out is to upload it and see what happens. I uploaded that image with my best defense for a "fair use" rationale. It is posted in the Samuel Leibowitz article, where I gave it my best shot for a "fair use" justification. If it has to be removed, it has to be removed. However, that photo is so historically important, is so old and is so unlikely to be subject to a copyright (the web site from which it came frankly says that), I hope it will either be blessed as is or someone can add the right words to make it eligible for "fair use"."

Speedy deletion

  • I think you have made a grave error. This is most certainly not a speedy. As well as this the reason you give is not valid. --➨♀♂Candlewicke ST # :) 01:45, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
Please reply on my page. --➨♀♂Candlewicke ST # :) 01:46, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
Per the hangon tag I replied on the article's talk page. ww2censor (talk) 01:58, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Philip Hogarty

You focussed on one non-notable portion of the article while not commenting on for example the assertions made by Jam-Fly. (He was the head-figure of the Irish Chess Union (The main chess organisation in Ireland). He was also the youngest chairperson in history.) If it is going to be deleted because it is deemed unnotable, your comments really should address why these would not qualify. - Mgm|(talk) 10:52, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

  • P.S. Please drop me a message or {{talkback}}-template when you have responded. - Mgm|(talk) 10:53, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
I have given my opinion on the deletion page and I still think the assertions to notability don't cut it, even though you disagree. That's why it was put up as an WP:AfD. ww2censor (talk) 15:52, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Lucan

Hi. I don't understand this revert. Lucan is a disambiguation page...? 58.8.5.234 (talk) 05:16, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I should have deleted Lucan, not reverted it because it is not in Dublin 15 according to An Post's list of places in D15 but I have corrected it now. Lucan is listed as being in County Dublin. ww2censor (talk) 05:25, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. 58.8.5.234 (talk) 05:49, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
No problem, I didn't mean to revert to the dab page; that would be a little silly. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 05:54, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Images of stamps

Dear Ww2censor, I agree with you, that stamps should not become the preferred way to depict the subject of an article. However I believe that a use in a section like critical comment and legacy does not infringe on fair use. One example would be Andreas Hofer. The issue of a stamp for the anniversary of his death indicates how a important he still is for Austria (for which the issue of a stamp is a good reference). Similarly on the subject of wind turbines I consider the issue of a series of stamps also an acknowledgement of their importance. Taking your point on critical discussion I will incorporate it (with a few lines of text) into wind power in Denmark. I would appreciate to have a discussion on how to integrate the stamps rather than one why they should be deleted. Inwind (talk) 09:21, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

You really need to continue that discussion in the appropriate place, i.e., the non-free content talk pages. Your Andreas Hofer example fails the criteria because there is nothing other than the stamp and a caption, just as the original wind power stamp did; there is, and was, no substantial critical comment. If you try to justify including stamps because someone is famous, as I stated previously, then VIRTUALLY ALL stamps of people will be acceptable because postal administrations only issue stamps bearing images of people who are famous for their importance in the country of issue and sometimes beyond. Sorry, but that is not an acceptable fair use of non-free images. ww2censor (talk) 15:17, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
I have started a discussion on Wikipedia:Editor assistance/Requests#Fair use of stamps to get a broader view on the subject. Inwind (talk) 20:42, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Corso the Mail Carrier

Common knowledge in the Beat scene, there's a picture of Corso delivering mail in NYC in Gifford's Kerouac bio "Jack's Book", haven't a copy at hand, so yeah, wikipedia's loss... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.210.220.249 (talk) 00:26, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Songs by Keith Getty

You recently added a warning to a page called "Songs by Keith Getty" (which was later moved to Keith Getty discography by another user). The claim that this page does not cite references or sources is unnecessary and untrue. This is factual data which is readily gleaned and compiled from the related wiki discography pages (which are clearly presented and linked, though not as footnotes as you might have expected), and the source material is the material itself, namely, the liner notes of the albums listed (or the related songbooks). This is commonly available data that should not require any type of citation. If you want to add a sentence at the beginning like, “Data drawn from the albums listed below,” that is fine, but please remove the warning.
--Fennertree (talk) 17:40, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

It might be best if you were to follow the discography style guidelines that specifically request some references in discographies. As a recently newly active editor you may not be familiar with the current standards. Reliable sources provide verifiable proof and avoid the criticism that Wikipedia is an unreliable encyclopaedia. Data commonly available to you are not references, or citations, and do not provide readers with information about where the data came. Even though you may know it well and think it should not be cited, that is not what the Discographies WikiProject thinks, in fact all information should have some references or citations. Any editor, including you, can remove the notice when the references problem has been fixed but don't just remove because you don't like it or disagree, please try to deal with it appropriately. Hope that helps. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 06:08, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
This page is not a discography page; I had to convince another editor that this is a list of songs, thus it is now List of songs by Keith Getty and categorized appropriately. I added some citations; you may want to check to see that this what you meant and it fits within proper guidelines for this type of page.
